Ch. 17 - Blessing or Curse?

Ji Feng did not dare to imagine how powerful Xiao Huoyan's parents were. If the little boy in front of him already were more powerful than The Golden Dragon, Jin Long of the Jin Clan, then how amazing must his parents be? 'His biological parents must be several times stronger, right?', Ji Feng thought.

"U-Uhm… Sorry but… uhm, do you mind telling me who your p-parents are?"

"I… I do not know much myself. My mother died two years ago and my father…"

Xiao Huoyan paused. He did not know where his father was. He did not even know if his father was alive or not.

"It is fine, you d o not have to--"

"--He left. My father left and erased my memories before he left. I think he left before I was two years old, but I am not sure. I have not seen him since he left. I can not remember how he looks or how he sounds. I do not even know if he is still alive!"

tears began to make their way down his rosy cheeks. Anyone who saw him would be able to feel his sorrow.

"O-oh… I am terribly sorry for asking!"

Xiao Huoyan continued talking as if he had not heard Ji Feng's apology.

"He never came back… Where was he when my mother died?! Where was he all those times when strangers tried to take me away?! Where was he when I left?! Did he ever even think of coming back?! Did he just plan on abandoning us forever?! Did he regard me and my mother as nothing but trash to be tossed away?!"

Xiao Huoyan's eyes began to change colour. This scene made Ji Feng completely stupefied. He had never in his entire life, seen something like this.

A few hours ago, he almost died. Back then he just thought that he was to weak. It was the general of the army that had almost killed him. He knew that the general was much stronger than him, therefore he accepted his defeat and blamed it all on himself for being too weak.

Now it was different. This time he was probably going to die by the hands of a little boy, young enough to be his grandson. He felt ashamed, yet he still blamed himself for being too weak.

Xiao Huoyan started to rise up in the air. He already had already stopped speaking when his eyes turned pitch-black. Now he just whispered strange things in a language unknown to Ji Feng.

Ji Feng began to panic. He could sense the killing intent Xiao Huoyan's gaze emitted. He could sense it, and it scared him.

He tried to yell at Xiao Huoyan to stop, but as soon as he opened his mouth, Xiao Huoyan lifted his hand. Then he just pointed at Ji Feng with one single finger.

Ji Feng froze out of fear. Then Xiao Huoyan went silent. The same second that Xiao Huoyan went silent, cold wind as sharp as blades, surged towards him. He felt hopeless.

This time, unlike the other time, Xiao Huoyan did not stop his attack. When he attacked Jin Long before, he stopped just as his attack was about to reach Jin Long. This time he did not stop. When the cold wind as sharp as blades finally arrived at Ji Feng, he died… and Xiao Huoyan fainted on spot… as usual.

A few hours later, Xiao Huoyan woke up. Just as he woke up and opened his eyes, his expression froze. A single tear rolled down his left cheek while he just sat on the floor… right beside Ji Feng's head. The sharp wind from his attack had shopped off Ji Feng's head. His body laid on the floor… on the other side of the room, and there was blood everywhere. Ji Feng's blood was all over the room.

He never really wanted to kill anyone. He was just mad at his biological father for having been so cruel to him and his mother. He did not mean to kill Ji Feng. He was not going to lie to himself. He never really took a liking for Ji Feng, but he did not dislike him either. It did not matter what Xiao Huoyan thought about Ji Feng. What mattered to him, was the fact that he did not wish to see him dead. At least not yet. He had already decided to kill Ji Feng when he told him his secrets, but it felt different from how he thought it would, now that he had actually done it.

He hated killing people. Every time he killed someone, he felt as if a part of his heart cracked and flew away with the wind… together with his tears.

His emotions were always unstable. Something that was really small and insignificant to others, could make him extremely mad, while a simple act of kindness could make him extremely happy. It was indeed strange, but it was the truth. He had heard when Jin Niao had compared him to a 'teenage girl when it comes to emotions', when he thought that Xiao Huoyan was not listening.'His mood changes with the wind', he had said.

After Xiao Huoyan came back to his senses, he noticed that even he himself was covered in Ji Feng's blood. The smell of blood always made Xiao Huoyan sad and disappointed. That was mostly because whenever he smelled blood, it was because he had killed someone.

He did not want to kill others. He did want people to suffer because of him.

Some people would probably see him as a monster, while other would think that he is simply favoured by the heavens. His mother used to say that he was a blessed child. That he was a child favoured by the Celestials in heaven. He himself did not know what to think. He did not know if his strange abilities were a blessing or a curse, but he felt that it was tilting more towards the latter.
