Shintaro's Warm Side

In the operating room, Kahoru was on her second surgery, doing a kidney transplant on a female patient. Her assistant was finishing up on the patient. Kahoru stretched and before she was about to leave, she informed the theatre nurse to send them to the intensive care unit after her assistant finished sewing her up. "And please tell me when she wakes up."

"Yes doctor."

Kahoru left and took her gloves and mask off before walking into the waiting room. The patient's family took notice of her and gathered around Kahoru. The father spoke in a worried tone, "Is she okay?"

"Yes, the surgery went well. She will be monitored in the ICU just in case her body rejects the kidney."

"Thank you so much, doctor." The father held Kahoru's hands in his. He smiled and cheered with his family.

"You are welcome." Kahoru bowed. She felt at peace watching the family cheering as they headed towards the intensive care unit. Kahoru started to make her way towards the cafeteria. She was finally on her first break of the day.

She ordered a Tonkotsu ramen and a small yoghurt drink. After receiving the food, Kahoru went to sit down at an empty table and started to eat her food. As she ate, the cafeteria started to become quiet. Kahoru was a bit uncomfortable about how quiet it was and suddenly felt the atmosphere become cold.

She started to hear the nurses nearby gossip, "There's the cold angel of the hospital"

"He looks so gorgeous every day. I wish I could say hi to him." They silently fangirled. Kahoru looked up to see the man walk towards her. She became confused. He sat down in front of her with his food in hand.

"Shintaro?" Kahoru was shocked. She'd never seen her younger brother work at the hospital. He looked kind of cool in his doctor's coat.

"Nice to see you sis." Shintaro smiled.

"How come I haven't seen you work here?"

"You're just too busy. Plus, I'm a future paediatric surgeon. I'm an Intern. Also, we are in different departments"

"You work with children? That's unexpected."

Shintaro suddenly blushed. It was obviously unexpected that a cold man was working with children.

"W-what's wrong with working with children?"

"Nothing is wrong. It's just cute."

They caught up whilst eating their food. The nurses were flabbergasted that Shintaro and Kahoru were getting along. "Wow, he's giving the new surgeon a lot of attention."

"They must be lovers. They even have the same last name."

Suddenly, a man behind then interrupted their gossip session. "No ladies, they're my siblings."

They turned around to see who had spoken to them and their faces became pale. "Oh, I'm terribly sorry for assuming things, Mr CEO. Please forgive us."

Kenjiro laughed, "It's okay. If you excuse me I need to chat with them."

"Yes sir." The nurses scurried away in a panic.

As Kahoru and Shintaro were talking, Kenjiro sat next to Kahoru. "Heya guys, why didn't you invite me to your little catch-up?"

They turned to look at Kenjiro with a puzzled look. Shintaro said, "I just happened to run into her that's all."

"What he said."

"I was joking, but jeez you two are cold."

"No, we're not," Shintaro responded.

"Of course." Kenjiro patted Shintaro on the head. "I'm going to go back now. So I'll see you later kiddos."

Kenjiro patted Kahoru and Shintaro on the head, and went back to what he was doing.

After eating their lunch, the siblings started to clean up. Shintaro asked, " What are you doing after?"

"I have one more surgery scheduled for today. What about you?"

"I have to make my rounds."

"Have fun with the kids." Kahoru said.

"Yeah I will."

They then parted ways. Kahoru had an hour before her surgery and so she went into the office to look at the ultrasounds of the patient she was going to be working on. She spent twenty minutes in her office before she felt like going to the Paediatric ward to see what her brother was up to.

Kahoru put her lab coat on and started making her way down. As she did, Kahoru heard a nurse call out for Shintaro. "Dr, Yukimura, Natsu in room four is crying for you. Hurry up and see her."

"Okay, I'll go now." Shintaro rushed into the elevator and into the children's floor and made his way to The little girl's room. Kahoru was quietly following behind him.
