CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN (37) Mastermind

"What did I hear you say?"

"Wei, calm down." Lu Jing was angry too. "If you had just listened to me... Then this wouldn't have happened."

"Nothing happened, you remember?" Zhang Wei asked through gritted teeth. "I didn't do anything, remember? Hmm? If you hadn't blocked me, then at least I'd know why I'm being held here! You crazy moron! You're simping for that girl! And you're telling me to calm down? I have been here..." Zhang Wei lowered his voice. "Since yesterday!"

Lu Jing twitched his mouth. To think Zhang Wei would speak normally was to expect a rock to be able to hear him.

"No food! No water! And these animals are treating me like a convicted criminal." Zhang Wei sprang up from his chair again. "I'm so angry that I'd set this whole place on fire."

This time though none of the officers held him down but instead, placed their hands on their gun sack ready to pull it out.

"Sit, Wei! You're making things hard!"

"I don't care just get me out of here!"

"I can't!" Lu Jing punched the table. "How can I get you out of here if you continue to be unreasonable? Hun! Shut up man!"

Perhaps, yelling was the only language Zhang Wei understood as he sat back down after Lu Jing spoke.

"It's not my fault you're in here. What were you even thinking? How could you think of attacking her?"

Zhang Wei licked his lips then rolling his eyes, he hissed.

"If I had known you had a dagger, I'd never have allowed you to meet her."

"You're taking on that girl's side again. Are you snitching on me because of a woman? You forgot so fast that she had hit me first? Hmm?"

Lu Jing felt extremely tired hearing that. "And your way of retaliating is by killing her?"

"You are going to leave me here because of that girl?" Zhang Wei simply ignored his friend's question.

"You messed up, brother. Just admit it."

"And then? After admitting it, what next? I go to jail because of her?" The thought made smoke come out of his ears and nose. Zhang Wei felt like was breathing fire.

Lu Jing shut his eyes. He didn't know his friend to be brainless.

"I'm not admitting to any shit! Just get me out of here."

"I really can't do anything." Lu Jing stretched out his hands. "Father isn't willing to help. If he does, it will jeopardize his company and he can't risk that."

Zhang Wei's ears burned at that statement.

A minute passed as Lu Jing awaited his friend's reply but none came.

Two minutes.

Five minutes.

"Hahahahaha." Zhang Wei laughed so hard that his whole body shook.

He laughed for a very long time and when he stopped, he looked Lu Jing dead in the eyes and muttered. "You're nuts, you know that right?"

Lu Jing shrugged.

"I'm giving you the grace of today." Zhang Wei threatened and it caused Lu Jing to frown.

"Don't even try me."

"No, no, no." Zhang Wei waved his hands in the air, revealing his handcuffs. "I'm giving you the grace of today." He repeated.

Lu Jing understood what he meant, find him something to uncuff himself then everything else will be settled. If he did that though, the police would come after him and his father. It was a dangerous game to play.

He wasn't willing to risk anything. Lu Jing tried to think but his brain and mind was disconnected, so he ended up sighing.

He got up, ready to leave then looked at Zhang Wei one more time, before he exited.

At the press conference, without wasting time, Rose went straight to the reason they had gathered. Assuring everyone she was safe and her attacker was in the police custody.

"Ms Chen, are you trying to hide the criminal?"

"Is the attacker someone you know?"

"Ms Chen, please give us the name of the attacker."

They wanted the attacker's name by all means, if it was someone within her family then he or she wasn't so safe, it would be worst if it was an outsider.

Rose was a public figure with a lot of admirers so if the name of the attacker got out, they knew what would happen.

Rose gave a polite smile and bowed, "We are still trying to find out the mastermind behind the attack, until then, we can't disclose any further information."

She could hear sighs in the room after her statement so she smiled again and made a 180 degree bow to the reporters.

They also bowed in return as she waited for them to take their leave.

Her neck veered to the left and there stood Xu Dandan, Mingyu and Donghai. At the right side was Ye Zedong and Duyi.

Rose was trying hard to resist a laugh. Xu Dandan also turned to her with raised eyebrows.

Earlier,

On the last floor, after Xu Dandan had informed Rose of her press conference, she went back to her office, gave Mr Su a call then rushed out just in time to accompany Rose.

"You stay back, I'll accompany her." Ye Zedong statement caused Xu Dandan to frown.

"No way. You should stay back and keep an eye on the other employees. Ms Chen needs a woman by her side also Duyi, Mingyu and Donghai will be there too. So you should stay put."

Ye Zedong's lips went up as they twitched. "You're not being reasonable..."

"Neither are you." With that said, Xu Dandan focused her attention on Rose's door.

The instant Rose stepped out of her door, she felt the tensed atmosphere, looking in between the two she wanted to laugh but knowing them too well, she held back.

"Let's go."

Since she mentioned no one's name in particular the two followed suit.

"Ma'am, Mr Su had agreed to meet you." Xu Dandan informed her. "He also allowed you to chose the location."

"Oh, that's so gentlemanly."

Xu Dandan scratched her head but didn't comment.

"So where did you chose?"

Xu Dandan texted her the location and time.
