Conflict

He could feel the burn of his muscles as they tried to shift, his territorial nature trying assert itself. Ignoring the pair he rushed past them, shoving his way out the door and up the stairs, their shouts of alarm silent under the buzzing in his ears. Slamming through the security door he rested his hands on his knees and tried to calm himself. He spat viciously on the ground, the secretion from his fangs, while harmless to other arachnids, would make him violently ill if he swallowed to much of it...another curse of his birth. The image of the easy way Tory and Drake interacted was almost as bad, a gnawing ache in his gut he couldn't shake. That said he knew he was completely overreacting. They had grown up together, the three of them thrown together as children. It was only natural that after so many years they would be happy to see each other, no matter the circumstances.

Finally having gained as much control as could be expected he straightened and prepared to go back inside. As his hand reached for the door a slight almost imperceptible scraping sound reached his ears. He paused, eyes glinting in the dark as he slid them to the left. A shadow of movement followed the sound as someone..or something creeped around the corner.

Gabe turned the door handle just as Drake and Tory opened it, their eyes full of questions. Seeing them he shoved them roughly back through the opening as a huge misshapen figure sprang towards them, a chittering sound escaping from its throat as it slammed against the steel door. Gabe whirled around fangs flashing as he lept on the beast before him, the points of its eight legs goughing his flesh like claws as he tore chunks of muscle away from its armoured throat. Knowing Tory was inches away spurred him on, ignoring the blood pouring from his arms and chest he gnawed on the beast, the taste of its tainted blood filling his mouth, a red haze filled his vision ad his body changed violently and out with his control. As his arms and legs split, his hated spider form appearing, and incredible beauty also emerged. Huge translucent wings with shades of sapphire and silver appeared from his back. The creature seeing this began to panic, it's fight turned to flee as it scrambled to get away. Gabe beat his massive wings, dust flying towards it, the sudden inhalation stunning the beast, the magic contained forcing it to relax and do it's new masters bidding.

Gabe detracted his fangs from the creatures neck, venom running in rivulets down his chest, leaving trails of burnt skin in its wake. Steping back he acknowledged the sound of banging on the door as Drake frantically tried to get outside. Breathing deeply he calmed himself allowing his body to resume it's normal shape, his wings folding into his back and forming the white, almost tattoo like markings all butterfly shifters were known for. The rest was not as pretty, but that he was used to..the vivid marks where fang and claw had scared his flesh in spider form were obvious in the jagged line that bore the marks of his usual form. Only in the direst of circumstances did his wings appear...his last line of defence for those he cherished they had never shown when fighting on his own....only to protect others.

Change completed Gabe stepped back and studied his adversary, no humanity was obvious in the face...in most cases after being stunned shifters would resume human form, their ability to maintain their other selves cut off. This one however stayed as grotesque...it's features twisted. Gabe stared at it, because 'it' was the only way to describe the thing before him.

Turning away in disgust he put in the codes for the door, Drake and Tory burst through only to stop in shock as they saw the blood pouring from Gabes wounds and the creature lying before them.
