Keep calm, my subconscious tells me. " Don't worry so much Rue, you did this last year and they picked you, " says my overly optimistic best friend, Lisa. She is the type of girl who turns heads and doesn't care what anyone has to say about her. Her appearance has the opposite sex in cloud nine, her brown eyes, light and fair skin, long locks of golden brown hair and a dimpled smile.
" Yea whatever, " I say trying to sound as nonchalant as I possibly can and I know it's not working on Lisa but I am really just telling myself it's going to be okay. I head to the bathroom of our apartment and look in the mirror. An exhausted reflection stares back, long, curly black hair that is unruly to any comb and dark black eyes. Light brown skin and virgin lips that probably need lipstick but then again I never have time for that. I quickly turn away from the mirror, disappointed at my appearance at only aged 23, I really have to invest in make up.
" Let's go Einstein! " shouts Lisa " the whole science nerd crew is waiting for you at school. " I can't help but chuckle, " It's the science department and you know it. You don't to make fun of my intellect every chance you get. " I rush out of the bathroom and... " Woah! Are you seriously wearing THAT to campus? " asks a shocked Lisa.
Jeans and a plain t-shirt don't make the cut according to Lisa and other members of the cool kids who go out ever night instead of studying club. " Lisa, I am no model. School awaits. " I take a good look at Lisa from head to toe and I have to say it, she looks as amazing as ever, she always does. She could wear a rubbish back and still look gorgeous. Her deep blue dress fits perfectly on her beautiful body and black heels add the finishing touch. I have made peace with the fact that I will never look as good as Lisa and trying only brings failure.
" Whatever, but you should really put effort in your looks. You are beautiful honey, " says Lisa with a smile.
" You Are supposed to say that, you are my best friend, " I say a bit embarrassed I might add. " Rue, you are driving, " Lisa says. She knows I hate driving. I start the engine of her red Porsche and make the short drive to campus.
