Broken Engagement

"Thank God, you're here!"

Kyou raised a brow when a particular light brown-haired guy waved at him when he arrived at their usual spot near their campus field. It was a six-seater bench made of wood with a table. There, he noticed two girls awkwardly seating in front of his friend and the yellow-haired guy who was sitting next to one of the girls, leaning towards her. The dark brown-haired girl beside them looked so done as she ignored the two and continued reading her book, sipping from her iced coffee.

"Have you eaten your lunch yet, Shiori? I know a new restaurant near the campus. Do you want to go later?" Sen Yamaji, Kyou's yellow-haired friend asked as he leaned closer to Shiori who was looking pissed off.

"I have a shooting later."

"How about after your shooting?" Sen leaned closer and attempted to wrap his arms around the girl but the girl slapped his hand away.

"I'll be studying.."

"Oh? How about we study together?"

"I prefer to study alone."

"How about tomorrow?"

Shiori sighed before tiredly saying, "No."

"How about--"

"Let me guess..." Kyou can't help but also sigh, irritated before slamming his hands on the table to stop Sen. "You saw Shiori and starts bothering her. Again."

Sen immediately looked at Kyou who is also looking directly at him and moving his head, motioning him to sit next to their friend sitting in front of them the whole time. Sen can be quite stubborn and irritating after all but he didn't have anything to say when it comes to Kyou. They have known each other since Junior High and only the black-haired guy can make him shut up most of the time.

The yellow-haired guy glared at Kyou before moving seats and saying, "Come on! It's been 2 years since you and Shiori broke your engagement. I'm making a move here!"

"I don't remember allowing that."

Shiori said to herself before sipping from her strawberry milk, acting like she hasn't said something that made Sen's soul drift off his body. His head dropped down the table as he silently cried like a baby who had his candy taken away. It's not like Shiori hates Sen. It's just that she is not interested in him. Nor anyone. As she always says, she has never been in love before. Even though Kyou was her ex-fiance, it was never a real relationship. It's a relationship forced by their parents.

Kyou and Shiori didn't love each other either. The two are engaged from the moment they were born. It was more like a requirement for them to be married and be the ideal family that both of their parents want them to be. And imagine how hard it is to be born into a wealthy family! They can't even pick their own pair. The two of them tried! They date each other for a year but it never worked. The both of them are good as friends, but never lovers.

Sen then sniffs and grabs onto the light brown-haired guy beside him, shaking his shoulders aggressively. "Cruel. But I love it!"

"Stop shaking me, Sen!"

Sen stopped shaking Dai, glaring at Kyou who's now seating beside Shiori and watching Sen having a breakdown. Or fanboying over Shiori? He doesn't know. He then slammed his head on the table and started contemplating all of the things he had done just to be noticed by Shiori. They all just stared at him, shaking their head.

"Why did you two break the engagement off though? The two of you are childhood friends, right? Is it because Kyou hates Omega?" Dai asked, sitting properly and straightening out his shirt.

All of the people in the seats glanced at Kyou who is in deep thought. That's not unusual news. He always had deep hatred toward Omegas and almost all the people in the school knew about that. If they will ask him why though, he will just stay silent about it. Most of the time, he will even divert the topic. It's irritating since they want him to open up. That's what friends are for, right? They should be always there to listen to you without any judgment. But if he is not ready for it, they don't want to push the topic.

As for Kyou, he glanced at Shiori as he thinks of the main reason why the two of them broke up. There are plenty of reasons but if he will think about it, it may be because of the differences in their personalities. The other is too serious for his own good while the other is too carefree. They are also too critical of each other. Maybe because they are childhood friends but are too comfortable with each other that if they live in the same house, they will always scream at each other's faces.

Shiori sighed, rolling her eyes. "If you all knew how much Kyou irritates me. He is the only kid around my age back then but he just doesn't talk! I even asked him if he is deaf."

"I'm not deaf. I just don't want to talk to you." Kyou shrugged and Shiori gasped, offended.

"Hey! I kept following you for years. Years!"

"It's not my fault. Hate to break it to you, Shi but you're so immature back then," Kyou smirked, teasingly at Shiori who just elbowed him to his ribcage which causes him to squirm.

"Coming from someone who is so quoted," Shiori huffed, sketching the shape of quotation marks in the air. "mature."

As the two continued bickering to the side, Dai sighed and started to regret why he asked in the first place. When the two of them fight, it will take so long to stop them. Sen lifted his head to the loud voice of Kyou and Shiori fighting before glaring at them. Kyou knew that Shiori is his dream girl but there he goes still flirting with her. That bastard. He then glanced at Yasuko who still has her book open. What a weird girl. Who can even stay focused when it was this loud?

"Say..." Sen called to Yasuko who lifted her head from her book to look at him, "Isn't it hard to read when it's noisy?"

"Not really. You will get used to it if you are always with Shiori." Yasuko answered solemnly, picking up her iced coffee from the table before taking a sip.

Sen forced a laugh, the side of his mouth twitching. "I-Is that so?"

Then awkward silence followed. Sen mentally groaned at it. She is the type of person he hates to be alone with. Someone quiet and awkward is not really his style. She is a lot different than Shiori. Shiori is loudly cute, fun, charming and--- Dai then coughed which caused the people to look at him, catching their attention.

"I thought Kyou will be asking Yuu to come with us, what happened? Did you see him?"

Kyou fixed the way he was sitting as he nodded. "Yeah."

Dai raised a brow at him. "Then? Is he coming?"

"I didn't have the chance to ask him. He's with Nakamura."

Dai raised a brow at Kyou who is now furrowing his brows, crossing his arms. The three of them namely Yuu, Dai, and Sen knew about Kyou's hatred of Rei. And if you will ask him, he can think of two reasons. First, he is an omega. Second, because of his reputation. Yuu denied everything about his cousin, though. He is curious but knowing how Kyou will react, Dai just decided to shut up.

"Hey..." Shiori ruminated, breaking the silence and placing her empty cup on the table. "Why do you hate our friend so much?"

Kyou raised a brow at her. "What do you mean?"

"Come on, Kyou! We all know you hate him. Judging by the way you react whenever you or we mention him. And don't you dare say the 'He is an omega' shit to us! I'm sure all of us are sick about it already."

All of them at the table then looked at Kyou, curiously. Kyou can help but just sigh. How will he answer that question? Even he didn't know. He just feels irritated whenever he saw him. He ignored Rei in school and focus on his own responsibilities. He thanked God that he didn't see him in Yuu's house whenever he visits. He absolutely didn't want to be involved with him. Who would want to be around someone like him? Maybe Yuu, Shiori, and the other girl named Yasuko but not him. It just happens that they both have mutual friends, making it difficult not to interact with him.

"Rei! Yuu!" Shiori excitingly exclaimed, cutting his thoughts and standing up from her seat but stopped, her smile turning into a frown when she saw who the two are with. "And Haruo..."

Kyou looked at where she was glaring and saw Rei and Yuu walking with the said literature professor. The first thing he noticed is how their silver-haired friend smirking while the red-haired guy he is with keeps on smiling, moving his hand around as he actively talks to Haruo who's walking between them. Now, that makes the rumors around him less of a surprise considering how much he is flirting with the professor. The rumor that he, Rei, sleeps with anyone whether they are his classmate, schoolmate, or even professor may or may not have any basis but all people in the school knew about it.

The black-haired professor waved at the both of them in which the two bowed in response before they walk towards where they are sitting. As they walk closer, Kyou's eyes then went to Yuu as he stares like he can notice every little detail about him. The way he walks, the way his hair moves as the wind blows. All of it. But his eyes stopped when he saw Rei staring at him, smirking teasingly like he knew what he was thinking. Damn. This will be a long day.
