FLASHBACK - Guilty?

A week passed like this but the police did not contact neither Ashton not Kate. In this period Ashton would call Kate regularly and ask whether the police came looking for her. He would also ask to say what she had to say to the police everyday. This was making Kate irritated. Why were they doing stuff as if they had done something wrong? But she didn't want Ashton to go to jail so she didn't say anything and kept it to herself. As her final exams were done already she didn't have to go to school, which was actually a good thing because it would have reminded her of the times she spent with Susie and that would depress her. She missed Susie, even though she said harsh words to her. She missed her annoying sounds. But all those sounds, she was willing to hear them all, atleast one last time. But she couldn't.

One a Sunday morning as Kate was coming back from a morning walk she saw the police car outside her house. Even though she didn't do anything wrong she was scared, scared because she had to lie.

"Hello officer. May I know the reason you are here?"

"You are Kate Brooke? "

"Yes I am. I am willing to help you with anything related to Susie. She was my best friend."

Kate then becomes a bit teary eyed, but then controls herself.

"Thank you Miss Kate. You would have to come to the police station with us though as we can't do the questioning here."

"Okay... Wait a minute, I'll just go and change as my clothes are sweaty"

The police officer nodded and went back to his car along with his colleague to wait for Kate. Kate ran upstairs and quickly called Ashton.

"Ash, the police is here!"

"What!? Seriously? It's okay. We knew this would happen anyways. You just have to say what I asked you to and we'll be clear. You understand Kate?"

"Hmm.. I do."

"Good. Go then and after you are done call me and tell me what happened"

"Okay "

"Bye"

"Bye ~ I love ...'beep beep' "

Ashton hung up the call. Kate felt a bit dejected but left it. She then changed quickly and went down. Outside her house she could see the police car. She went towards it and her heartbeat started to rise. A trickle of sweat came on her forehead. She quickly wiped it acting as if it was too hot since she came from a morning walk. She then opened the door to the back seat and sat inside. The officer started the car and drove off towards the police station.
