FLASHBACK - Not the right time
'Ding'
A new message on the phone.
Kate was so much into reading the book that she didn't hear any notification sounds. This has been the fifth message by now. Then suddenly her phone started ringing, startling Kate a bit. Kate looked at her phone and saw it was Ashton. She stared at the phone for a while and then picked it up.
"Hi baby! How are you!!?"
"Kate!? What the hell? Where the f*uk are you? Are you deaf?"
Kate sneered inwardly. How could she be so dumb so as to not see Ashton's behaviour towards her?
"Umm... I'm at the hospital Ash."
"And why are you there?" Ashton's voice showed not even a bit of concern.
"I have some hormonal imbalance, that's what the doctor said, so I have been admitted here. I don't know how long I have to be here."
"Is it that serious?"
"I think so..."
"Okay, right now I'm busy I'll come to see you in the evening. Which hospital are you at?"
"H & S"
"What? Did you say H & S?"
"umm.. yeah, what's wrong with that?"
"Nothing, was just confirming the hospital name." Kate got a creepy smile on her face. Actually the reason for Ashton's reaction was the hospital itself.
H & S was the city's top most hospital, with the best facilities and doctors after the military hospital. And it had a lot of fees. Any normal person won't be able to afford it. And same goes for Kate. But the man who brought her there had already paid all the medical expenses and even deposited extra amount incase there's any other requirement. But Kate didn't clarify it to Ashton since she didn't want him to know that she knew at the supermarket and heard his sister, that would spoil her plan. So she kept silent. Moreover what was wrong in making him think that she was rich? Probably he'll get a bit scared. And that is what Kate wanted him to be.
"Cool then"
"Okay..Bye! I love you!!" Kate hung up without listening to his reply. She just couldn't hear another lie orelse she would literally kill him.
Kate sneered while looking at her phone and kept it aside and focussed on reading her book again, but this time she kept an alarm, this was because incase she gets too absorbed in reading the book and Ashton sees her reading it then giving an explanation might get difficult.
At around 5 in the evening her alarm started ringing. Kate immediately switched it off and then took the romance novel. She hated romantic books, they were too unrealistic. But the Kate that she had shown in front of Ashton would have a personality like that, so she had to keep it up.
Instead of reading the book, she kept flipping the pages and looked up the summary online, just incase. At around 6:30 PM, a nurse came inside.
"Ms. Brooke there is a person called Ashton, looking for you. Do you want to see him?"
Kate thought about it and nodded her head.
'Such a great hospital, asking the patients whether they want to see a person or not. Why can't other hospitals have the same service?' Kate thought to herself.
In around 2 minutes, Ashton was inside her ward.
"Hey, I came to see you " Ashton said in a way that was not too domineering but not with concern as well. It was as if he was doing her a favour by coming to see her.
"Thank you." Kate said sweetly.
"What are you reading?"
"oh, it's a romantic novel."
"Hmm... How are you?"
"I'm doing good.... How are you? Have the police come looking for you after that day?"
"Yeah, once."
"What did they want now?" Kate said in an annoyed tone, so as to make Ashton believe that she was concerned about his well being.
"Just the usual questions and investigation. I don't even know why they are continuing the investigation. It's been one month since Susie died. Damn, she killed herself now she is creating problems for us." Ashton was clearing annoyed and forgot to filter his words. Kate used all her strength, not to kill him right there. How dare he say something like that about Susie!? That too in front of her? Wasn't she his friend as well!?
"Hmm yeah." Kate gritted her teeth and replied. She had to bear her anger. It wasn't the right time to expose herself.
