Contracted Authors as Slaves?

I was reading the chat in Inkstone Discord and commented to a "joke" of one of the non-contracted authors. I complimented him that he sounded like the website's staff during the Evolution of Authors competition. To my dismay, he replied with a mocking disgust, connoting this site's staff are like slaves and it's an insult to him for me to call him that. I was stunned. Somehow, his way of saying was somewhat for the contracted authors, calling us as word-count slaves. The whole staff is working hard, but they are not writing anything to require word-count. So, who else was he referring to but the contracted authors. And one of these slaves is I.

Sad. The way these people looked down on contracted authors. No one is required to write that much every day. Even though there is this guaranteed monthly payment for the first four months if the author can write the minimum 40,000 words or higher per month. However, it all depends on the author if he abides in it or to keep his own pace and only earn from royalties.

Some of these authors called the contracted authors as owned by this company.

The truth, only the book is under the copyright of this site. Not the authors. Some contracted ones didn't even finish their books and the company didn't do anything against them.

I can't believe people are so bitter and judgmental. To think these authors are working hard for an additional income to pay for monthly bills or money to pay for their college tuition fees. I know a lot of them here. There's no need for me to mention their names. That's the reason they contracted their books. I, too, wished to earn to pay for an editor and to send my kids to college.

I've read the famous authors' life, like J. K. Rowling, Stephen King, and George R. R. Martin. They even have their own struggles before they became famous. Each one has his or her own lives, needs, and reasons they chose to write for a living. Why judge?

Actually, the contracted authors are thankful for this opportunity. We know, most of us here, are not that good to publish our stories at Amazon or under any publishing companies because we are not proficient and skillful enough. Most of all, our English is not that good compared to native-English speakers. But we have good stories, and we want them to be read by people worldwide.

Please save your own opinions to yourselves and be kind to people. There will be a time you, too, would ask to be understood.

As the bible says, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

Please be mindful of other people's feelings. Try putting yourselves on these people's shoes.

What are you going to feel if you're judged without being asked first or without even considering your situation?

Do unto others what you want others to do unto you. Please be kind to contracted authors.

Have a good and fruitful day. 😉
