Why We Made It

"Why must it be her?" I asked, pleading towards Ysabeau.

"It's the human's orders, burn the dragon-witch by tomorrow." My heart clenched when I heard those words.

"And because of hearsay, an innocent life is taken." Jeanette patted my head.

"It's alright, I know I've done nothing wrong, and this is inevitable," she cooed. I sniffled, unable to understand why it wasn't me but a saint.

Anger riled up inside me as I saw the saint being stripped of her armor. Cuffed, and forced to walk through the town in embarrassment.

"You were like the younger sis I never had," she said to me before going on the wooden platform.

My eyes welled up in tears as my fist clenched. I swore, they will not get away unscathed. They will pay the price.

On the morning of May 30, 1431, an innocent war hero, saint, and friend was wrongfully burnt on the stake.

The next day. I visited the stake. The nobles looked at with disdain, I paid no heed for them. I slowly went up to the stake and gently touched her.

"I wonder what her mother would say. I wonder how many more young girls will you sacrifice..." I asked as the chief approached me.

"She was the Dragon Witch, do not pay her any respects," he said, pretending to care. I knew deep down, he was laughing. My eyes darkened.

"She may forgive you, but I won't," I said, showing off my wings. The nobles backed away in fear.

Some villagers had their pitchfork and torches out. The kids wanted to throw stones but halted when my wings sprouted fully. The wings were maroon, with orange light around it. I then pulled out my whip from my burning wings.

"Since you people like to use fire to 'punish' the innocent, I'll make sure to give you a taste of what it's like to be burnt alive!" I yelled as I swung my whip around. With each slash, the winds made turned into marks of fire, raining down onto that village.

"I will make sure that no innocent girls will ever be burnt by you lot!"

"How?!" shouted the chief.

"I will burn each and every one of you lot," I replied, throwing my whip at the man, effectively killing him.

"Stop this! Won't you be like them, then?"

"I wouldn't care about that now. You've killed my friend. An eye for an eye."

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." With that, the villagers' population in that area started to dwindle.

Within the flames, stood the very man that sent Saint Jeanette to the stake. He wailed like a baby as the flames licked closer towards him.

"Spare… her…" he pleaded. A young girl ran towards him. I went towards the girl, holding out my arms. The kid smiled as she took my hand.

"Wee!" she squealed as I lifted her up.

"Thank you…" said the man.

"Don't be a fool." With that said, I threw the cheerful girl into the inferno. Her body immediately melted into the inferno. Her screams were silenced promptly.

"Make no mistake. I may be her friend, but I am, by no means, a saint. Besides, you took the life of another family's daughter," I said, smiling. The man cursed and swore as he witnesses the girl burning.

"You are a monster!" he shouted once more.

"Nope, I'm worse than the Devil. I am the real dragon-witch," I growled, leaving the flames to do the rest of the job.

"Where were you?" asked Raiyen, as I strode into the garden.

"Teaching a village a lesson about being firewood," I replied, drowsily. Ysabeau wanted to protest but Gillian quickly hushed her.

At that point, I had already reached the peak of fury. I could no longer care for human life. Over 400 years of trying to be nice towards the people who let so many to take refuge, I was on the verge of giving up. Until I met Jeanette as the battlefield. She wielded a flag instead of a sword. She charged into battle instead of staying at home. She was a leader instead of a follower. And yet, to the very end, even after being betrayed, after being accused and then led to her execution, she had still believed that they are worthy to be forgiven. I could not accept that. I could never. It wasn't fair. I hated it. Out of everyone, they decided to target an innocent person just to satisfy their greedy desires. That was the day I realized, humans are born to love war. They exist only to pain and suffering. They will never understand the meaning of innocent. They will never know the feeling of despair.

I wanted to pass judgment on this world so badly. To make one big attack across the globe. I wanted to rid this world of scum like those that I'd seen earlier. And they had the audacity to even beg for forgiveness when they happened to have a date with death. That's the human race; when they caused someone pain, they enjoy. But they will go above and beyond to get out when the tables have turned. No mercy is given for scum like them.

But I wanted to honor her words. I can't let my anger cloud my judgment. What I did earlier was wrong, I'd let my fury get the best of me. If she could forgive, then why can't I? I shouldn't kill because my friend is dead, I have to live to protect those that are still alive. That was my driving force. That was why we created the Arks.

After we had all met each other, we decided to make a safe haven for all the Mages who had lost their protection due to the Congregation being ripped apart. It was always a hidden motive for us, but the incident with the Maiden Of Orleans sparked it to be a reality.

I had decided to make peace with the humans, in honor of Jeanette's words. This view was exchanged with the people that I had and fought alongside with. That's how the Pentacle Arks were born. Gillian, Ysabeau, Raiyen, Baldwin, Z and I founded these future havens. Gillian was placed as the highest; Headmaster.

Each Mage is categorized to what Holders they are. A Single Holder is where a user can only do one type of element. Twin Holders can wield two elements.

Triplet Holders are a tad bit more special, not only they can use three elements they have a hidden skill called 'Holy Trinity'. Once the triplet holder has all three elements mastered or equal, they are able to use Holy Trinity. The spell is basically a huge attack beam, consisting of all three elements that the user has. No other Holders are able to combine elements like them, making them the rarest.

Quadruple Holders are those who are masters of four elements. Quintuplet and Penta Holders are two different types of Holders. Quintuplet Holders are able to use any five elements. Penta Holders, however, can only wield the five core elements of Pentagram. An Ace Holder is someone who mastered and can use all elements. Only a handful are able to reach such power. Those who possess Dark or Light element are also known as Vortexers, and those who have both are called Umbrakins.

Certain forms or types of Magic are not able to be taught, only to be passed by blood. These Magics are called Lost Elements.

Raiyen was a master of stealth, having a background of being, of what more modern called, 'Ninja.' He wielded twin daggers called Heaven Sent and Hell Bent. When used, the daggers' emblem would appear on the enemy's body, after being strike by the twin blade once. After he recites the blades' incantation, it delivers death swiftly. Raiyen founded the Vigilante, aimed to get intelligence and taking down heavily guarded securities.

Ysabeau was a major in flight, containing an abundance of wings. She was capable to replace her wings based on the situation she was in. Not only it grants flight, but each wing type would also hold a different power. Icy Falcon gave Ysabeau the power to shoot icicles with each flap. She founded the Dynasty of Wings, with the motto of always being high in the sky. They house anyone who used wings or wind power. She and Gillian were like parents to Raiyen and me.

Z used ice and water magic as well as Void's Emergence, which is the ability to produce anything out of thin air based on the user's power. From just a weapon to a sentient creature, Z represents a god at that area. He established and gave an order to the Blizzard Faction. It was initially for only those with ice or water magic plus Void's Emergence, but it then allowed anyone who possesses ice and/or water magic, without Void's Emergence. He also wielded a Lost element, Galaxian Element.

Baldwin was, in human terms, a Knight. Armed with the knowledge of expert swordsmanship as well as morale, he was capable of taking care and protecting the new 5 Arks. Many of the newcomers were eager to join this part as it is the only one that doesn't need any element requirements. Unless they wanted to get a seat and title of 'Knight', out of 12 Knights. They must pass through rigorous training, evaluations as well as their fellow peers. This man, the angriest man we know, founded the Knights of Dawn.

Gillian was the only who was able to use all elements from the beginning, an Ace Holder. All 6 of us were all Multi Holders, with the exception of me, a Penta Holder and Gillian. The core elements, elements within the Pentagram are significantly stronger than other sub-elements, discounting Lost Elements. To others, Baldwin was a Triplet Holder, due to the fact that he kept his Dark element a secret.

Raiyen was a born Triplet Holder, which means that he could use three elements straight off the bat. Electric allows him to use his Glitch skill, an effective way of movement without using too much Elemental Energy. His main element, Time, allows for him to use something like Glitch, but the chosen space and time-manipulated can longer or larger. For his determining element, the one used to recruit for the Vigilant, Earth element allows for him to adapt to his surrounding. The correct term is called Nature as he uses what Mother Nature is kind enough to give him. Snow terrain? An avalanche. Cloudy? Make rain.

Ysabeau, she had her wings of elements. In a way, she can be considered an Ace Holder. Each of the set of wings is named after gems or jewels.

Z's power was great, a Lost Magic user. Those were a formidable force. He could harness the powers of the universe and use it to do his bidding. However, Z only dishes this element to huge armies. He rarely uses on-one-one duel, unless both on par in terms of power. I once witnessed such power, it nearly knocked me out within the first clash. But his Galaxian is quite a sight to behold, I dreamt of one day wielding that kind of beauty using my own powers.

Now, I had a problem. I couldn't decide on what Ark I should establish. I could not determine a main for my section. My powers were confusing, to say the least. Usually, the Mages would have elements that do not clash with each other, like fire and ice, with an exception of the Ace Holders. In terms of age on Earth, I was the second youngest out of all founders. In terms of outside rules, I was the second oldest, just under Gillian by a few hundred. This time gap allowed me to perfect all the elements I had on hand.

"Professionally, both Ysabeau and Z established their Arks to be majoring in one of the Core Elements. Ysabeau, wind and Z, ice or water. You can start along those lines," advised Gillian. I looked my fingers, which was with the Core Elements. I sighed as I removed the ice and wind elements from my palms.

"Raiyen manipulates the element of Nature," I replied, looking at a daisy.

"Are you sure?" asked Gillian.

"He uses Nature to be smooth with his movements, no matters where he is. When he is forced to be underwater, he would be able to manipulate his surroundings to his advantage," I explained.

"Accordingly, is he capable of growing a tree?" I stifled a laugh, which failed miserably.

"Not all users of Nature Magic must cultivate a tree be that Element holder. I use Nature Magic to notice my surroundings and adapt to it to my will to carry out my mission. In a way, I can utilize all elements as well, but in strict conditions," explained Raiyen, who appeared hanging upside down a huge oak branch, I smiled as he hopped down.

"Sir Baldwin may be hot-headed, but he does not possess any form of Fire elements. Alternatively, most of the recruited and nominated members are skillful in all areas, but the most prominent one is the Spirit element," I said.

"Makes sense, they are supposed to the 'Holy Ones'," said Raiyen, looking towards the sky. I yielded my palm another look, deep in thought.

"I guess I can choose Fire as the prime element. But I feel that's gonna cause a lot of trouble when we start to people in, " I replied, softly. Raiyen eyes lighted up, paired with a smile with pride written across his face.

"What's the group going to be called?" asked Gillian.

"The Barren Pillars. It is aimed at being in the frontlines and the main attackers and fighters of the Pentacle Arks," I explained, as I stood up.

"And what element shall you use to determine your troops?" asked Gillian. I sprouted my wings. I gave a gentle shake as I switched from element to element. From normal to dark. I stopped at the fire and extended them fully, before jumping into the air.

"Once a blazer, always a blazer," I replied, smiling.
