Kara weaved through the mass of people in the town square, making her way to her stand. She was handing out apples for one gold piece an apple. Rumors were floating around about the missing prince. they said that whoever found him would be rewarded with ten thousand gold pieces, handed to you by the king himself. Though the chances the rummers were true were low, if she found the prince and returned him safely back to the king, she believed that there must be some kind of reward. And if there was any chance she could pick up any amount of coin she would take it. Yes, she had enough coin to survive, but doesn't everyone want a little bit more? To be able to go after their dreams, or just get a new dress.
Every week she came to the market earlier and set up her stand in the same spot. her stand was in a good area, with cherry trees providing shade from the hot sun. the guards making their rounds around the market would often stop here, for the shade. The guards alone brought richer people around. There was a rummer that the king himself would often dress as a guard, though on one knew if he did for sure, it attracted a lot of attention to the area.
kara figured that if anyone would know more about the prince's disappearance than anyone, but they may not be willing to talk about it, but she had to try.
Kara walked over to the guards and offered them apples. "You must get so tired? You boys need to stay strong. Here take an apple." she offered an apple to one of the guards. The man took a second to take the apple, but when he did and he looked into her eyes her heart started pounding so loudly in her chest that she was sure that he could hear it. When his hand brushed against hers she felt his skin, it was not as ruff as she would have expected from a guard. His hands were not soft, but they were not the same ruff one gets from working hard all of their life.
Kara looked around for the other guards, they had not approached her for an apple nor were they doing there talking to girls or anything at all. they were all standing there watching her and the guard she had just given an apple to. their jaws were slack and had confused and shocked emotions flickering in their eyes.
Kara looked to the man, but he was just glaring at the other guards. She didn't have all day so she started to walk over to the other guards, but a strong hand stopped her, grabbing her wrist. "Stay there." when she heard his deep voice, her heart went even faster, Why did this man make her feel this way? At his command she immediately stopped, frozen.
She watched as the man walked over to the rest of the guard and talked to them in hushed voices. As soon as he turned back to her the guard walked off like nothing happened. "What's going on?" she asked him. none of his or the other guard's actions made sense.
