The Plinky Plonk

The subtle screech of the car's brakes resonated through the tranquil neighbourhood. A synchronised sigh of relief from each parent eased the anticipation as their new home lay in front of them. Jack shot up with intrigue from his sleep and squinted at the building in front. The car pulled into the driveway and the previous owner's hand was shaken; they had the house to themselves. Slowly stepping over the threshold, three jaws hung in awe for they had never lived like this before, or even ever seen a house like this before, never been so elated before. And there was much more to come.

To their left was a cabinet which held a television larger than  Jack's bed : his eyes lit up brighter than the screen did - it was all so much for the young toddler to take in. Opposite the entrance was a crystal white kitchen which glistened wherever you looked at it. A protruding worktop accompanied by seats which spun. Jack's mother gleamed as she dreamt the numerous varieties of meals she could make. The polished mahogany flooring reflected the family's gasping visages as they shuffled along it , shoes squeaking with every step. They headed upwards, towards the other lands which were yet to be explored.

A sharp gasp echoed through the home as the parents gazed at their new sleeping quarters, fitted with lights that illuminated every corner of the room; cabinets which could hold an entire population - and the bed ,oh the bed. A chamber for royalty lay before them, its soft mattress and seemingly softer duvet beckoning for them to give it company.

A look was shared between the two and they knew exactly what eachother were thinking. They had left Jack alone downstairs.

Rushing down to see how the young one had entertained himself, they were pleasantly greeted by the melodic plinky plonk of the piano which sat in the corner, an ecstatic Jack professionally striking chord by chord - seemingly at one with the musical realms which lurked everywhere you would go.

However, what was heard by Jack was very different to what was heard by the rest of the neighbourhood. An endless racket rattled the foundations as the parents clasped their ears in discomfort. But little did they know he had a successful musical future waiting at the doorstep.
