Waiting For You

-Yunlan-

The first night of Shen Wei's coma, Zhao didn't leave his side. Outside it was raining heavily, making the room colder, so Zhao make sure Wei was well cover, so he would stay warm. Then, he simply sat by his bed and took his hand on his and watched over him as he heard the rain fall. He stared and the beautiful man for who knows how long and decide to swallow his frustration along with his anger and anxiety, because Shen Wei needed him to be strong, to be his pillar of support when he wakes up. However, as he watched him, he order for a few guards to be posted outside his private VIP room 24/7, as he was aware that Shen Wei had become a prime witness to the crime and a target to the accomplice who got away.

The suspect that had been found close to Shen Wei's body had been arrested, the man had been found unconscious too, although not seriously injured, unlike Shen Wei. Preliminary investigations made by his team pointed that he had been the one who killed the girl inside the lab room, before Shen Wei showed up. They were some unanswered questions by those officers who first arrived at the scene, about how Shen Wei had end up discovering the murder, already knowing the killer was in the building, but his team, which were now in charge of the investigation, didn't need an explanation for that particular part.

They all knew that Shen Wei could see ghosts, and the night guard that escort Wei to his office described there was some strange event with the lights and a rush of cold air inside the hall, just before the professor asked him to call the police and the ambulance before dashing away. Flicking lights, along with temperature drop, meant a spirit was close by and knowing Shen could see it, they guessed the ghost of the murder girl guide him to her body.

After that, the call he had recorded after he realized his professor was in danger, say it all. Shen Wei had slowly open the door to the lab room, enter and then fight with the one who killed the girl, knocking him down. It was what happened next what took them by surprise, the same way it had took Shen Wei unguarded. The one who had stabbed him in his back was someone he knew, someone he wasn't expecting to be involved in such heinous crimes and it proved that in that particular case, it had always been the work of not one, but two people.

There had been some strange facts about that serie of killings from the start, for which they were investigated as different murder cases, not related to one another. The weapon used in each case were different and so they were the ages of the victims, varying from twenty two, to thirty.

The multiple wounds inflicted on each of them, also were different in both the execution method (some in a more brutal way and some in a less messed one), as well as the places in which they were inflicted. Several ones, with deep cuts in the face and chest in the brutal ones and less wounds with the heart, neck and arms from the more controlled ones. It was only after one officer asked for his opinion on the murders that he had ruled it a serial killing.

The similarities were in fact very subtle and quite easy to miss. Yes, the three women had a difference in ages, with 30 for the first, 25 for the second and 21, for the third, before the one Shen Wei try to save, but they have in common something particular. All of them were consider attractive women, very smart, quite sociable, talented and caring of others. It was a link that was clear as day for him as he saw all three expedients with their personal information, so he asked to take the case just three days ago, never imagining it will end with Shen Wei as a collateral victim. Now, it was clear the murders were committed by two different men. The one who killed without restrain and the one who killed with less anger.

That new fact, also worried him for another reason. Apparently, the girl at the lab room was stabbed in her chest and neck, with clean cuts, she was not mutilated and the wounds inflicted were not as deep as in the first ones, so it was safe to assume, the man Shen Wei fought and caught was the gentler of the two, which meant the one who Shen Wei knew, the one who got away by stabbing Shen Wei in a sneak attack, then hitting him with a piece of wood, was the brutal one.

He looked at his professor for a moment and lie down by his side very softly. The VIP bed was bigger than those in normal rooms, so he could rest by his side without disturbing him, not get in the way of his wires, which monitor both his heart and brain activity.

"My Wei... wake up soon, babe..." Zhao whisper to his ear, just before he gently kissed his cheek. During the long hours, he whisper encouraging things to his ear, then watched the brain waves of the monitor and also found a patron in the lines. Every time he whisper something shameless, Shen Wei's brain activity would spike, as if the machine was blushing for him, when he held his hand free of the needle of his serum, his heart activity would also increase, which make him smile a few times.

Even in a coma, Shen Wei reacted to him as he would consciously, just not by heat. He even took a few pictures of the machine, in their normal state and in the spiked one. Once Shen Wei returned to him, he will show them to him, so he will not have the lame excuse he didn't felt the same, when it was quite plain to see he loved him back. However, after midnight, there was another pattern that scared the hell out of him.

Nightmares... Shen Wei experience one, that raised his pulse way too much and also his brain waves spiked almost off scale while he even arched his back and grabbed the sheets with so much force, that his hands became paler with the lack of blood. The doctors and nurses came then and gave him more sedatives, to calm him down and Zhao wonder if he should ask for some sedatives for him too, because his heart was almost at his throat, with both worry and fear, as he watched the doctors treating him.

The second day, he worked in a corner of Shen Wei's big room, on video call, reading all the documents Lin send him by mail and discussing the case with his team on video. The suspect had wake up from his unconsciousness the night before, but had refused to talk to any of the investigators, saying he had done nothing wrong and that he didn't remember what happen during the night. He was beyond mad with the bastard, for which maybe it was better he was not there to 'beat' a few answers out of him. Although the guy deserved a few punches for his crimes, violence was not tolerate in his team, because it could cause a case to be dropped in court by forced confession, among other technicalities.

Zhu Hong came and bring him a change of clothes and bring him lunch. Then Da Qing came and bring him snacks and more food, as well as some documents he needed to endorse. Then another night came and he sat again by Shen Wei's bed, taking his hand on his. Zhu had brought a thicker comforter, which he placed over Wei, so to keep him warmed, because the damn room was a freezer and stared at him. There were so many wires coming out of the EEG cap on his head, covering his silky hair, yet his handsome professor looked so calm, that it scare him. So he keep talking to ease his mind and heart, hoping he will annoy Shen Wei enough to wake up and ask him to shut up.

At some point, he fall asleep with his upper body half resting on Wei's bed and it was then that Shen Wei finally open his eyes, a bit lost of where he was. Then he looked down at the man that was resting at the border of his bed while holding his hand and smiled. Unknown to him, both the brain and heart monitor showing the increase of activity.

"Zhao Yunlan... Yunlan..." Shen Wei whisper trying to retrieve his hand, but in vain, because the Chief of SID have a good hold on him. Then he moved his other hand, the one with the serum and gently touched his hair, then passes his cold fingers through Yunlan's messed nest.

"Yunlan... wake up... Yunlan..." Shen called again. This time Zhao moved his head and moaned.

"My Wei... one more minute..." He whisper and Shen smiled again, making the beep of his heart monitor increase in pace, which in turn wake up Yunlan, fearing another nightmare. It took him by surprise to meet a very awake Shen Wei, amusingly watching him. His angelic face a bit tinted by a slight blush.

"Yunlan... what happened? Why am I here?" Shen asked in a whisper again while looking at him so beautifully and that was it for Zhao. He had been warned of the damage Shen's brain could had, however, his professor at the very least knew who he was, which was what it matter the most to him.

So, he shamelessly sat over the bed and put his arms on both sides of his resting body to come closer to Wei. Then he give him a very heated kiss charged with all the passion he had restrained over the five years he had yearned for him. Of course, that had make Wei's heart beat even faster on the monitor as he responded equally, not able to resist Yunlan's passion or his own. He looked so tired when they exchange glances for a moment, but unfortunately, as his heart was beating faster than it should, a few nurses open the door of their room, to see if the professor's condition worsen again, but find him kissing with the handsome detective that had not leave his side for a single moment.

As both nurses smiled, leaving the room to the passionate lovers again giggling like school girls, Zhao swear to himself he will not let go of him until the end of time, everything else could be damned. He was going to have his man safely at his home and into his life no matter who he needed to hunt down or cast away.
