Got You

-Yunlan-

After Zhao gave the video files to Shen Wei, he calmly watched his reactions as the interrogation progressed. Most of the time, Shen frowned, but he said nothing about what he felt while watching the killer he fought said he didn't remember, over and over. It was completely understandable that he may feel a bit angry or lost, because he could not remember anything of what happen that cursed night.

So he just keep an eye on him while he watched the few interrogations done by different detectives and waited as he sometimes replayed some parts. Then, when he was done with the videos, he stood up and sat by his lover side in the chair next to him.

"Shen Wei..." Zhao whisper, closing the laptop.

"He is not lying." Shen Wei said, looking at the Chief.

"Huh? About what?" Zhao asked softly.

"When he said he doesn't remember. He not lying about it. I had carefully watch all his manners, his eyes, face expression and tone of voice. I saw him like I would a patient in my office, taking in consideration any indication he may be lying. There are some physical reactions to each lie, even the ones we consider white lies to spare someone else feelings for example. This man did kill the women, he didn't deny it in any of the times he was asked, he only instead he didn't remember killing her."

"Are you suggesting he also has memory loss?" Zhao asked more seriously now.

"No. It's not memory loss, like in my case, I think is was intentionally blocked from his memory." Shen looked at his lover.

"Shen Wei... that's..."

"Let me explain. People seek the help of professional physiologists for many reasons. Some want to improve relationships, some others need to overcome difficult times, others desire to deal with their fears and so on. We learn to help the troubled minds in their different stages, sometimes using methods that can alter it to improve their lives. This methods are done with great care to the willing patient."

"You mean, hypnosis?" Zhao asked a bit surprised.

"Yes. There are many people who wish to forget a traumatic experience, while others, like myself, wants to remember it. The killing methods in this case was probably an indication that it had been the work of two people from the start." Shen Wei took the file from the first case over Yunlan's desk.

"This photos of the victim shows rage. This woman was killed by someone who wanted to erase something. The face was mutilated probably because she was petty and smart, the arms, because she was caring as well as the heart. Mutilation of a body requires more than just desire to kill, it needs a good amount of grudge and the pleasure of manifesting that inner desire that had been repressed for a long period of time." Shen took the other files.

"However, the second victim as well as the third, although mutilated as well, their wounds were less deep in most parts. The stab angels were weak and dispassionate in both arms and face, but deeper in the heart. There is no real rage manifesting in their bodies, nor the initial grudge that was plain to see in the first one. This is probably because the second killer was committing a crime for a different reason, most likely because he just like it to kill, not mutilate. A troubled mind for example, is easy to manipulate by those unscrupulous people that abuse of someone else trust. I'm not saying that he committed the crime controlled, but that the memories of the act may had been alter, most probably as a precaution. If your killer doesn't remember, then he can't tell anyone about it." Shen Wei said, raising once again the Chief admiration.

"Babe, you are as good as ever." He said, slightly kiss him. "Are there any signs of altering a mind?"

"Every time a detective ask for the reason he killed the women, he freeze for half a minute, then scratch the back of his head and moves back and forth in a repetitive manner and gets angry. He does this three times after the question is repeated in separate occasions. There is also the way he move his fingers in his right hand at those exact times he is asked. It shows he is anxious and the way he looks to the left, as if trying to remember but, then suddenly gets mad, shouting he doesn't remember killing her over and over."

"The odd way he moves the fingers is not normally done, the back and forth is a way to comfort himself and the rage is a defense to self-preservation. Those are more common signs, but there is an instinct behind it. The word that triggers his rage is apparently 'kill her'. That's the exact moment were the self-preservation start and so the anxiousness. Unless he is a very good actor, I truly believe he doesn't remember, even if he did it."

"But then, if that colleague of yours was trying to clinch his repressed rage or grudge, why he use someone else instead in the second murder?" Zhao asked as he took the first file from Shen Wei. "Was he unable to? Perhaps the first victim fight back and hurt him? Her nails didn't have traces of someone else skin, but that didn't mean she didn't fight back, because some parts of her body were unrecognizable."

"Most possibly, something unexpected happen during the first murder, preventing him to act as he wished a second time. Yunlan... I will give you a name. Try to find as much as you can about him, including the patients he treated over the past few years." Zhao looked at him surprised.

"Do you remember?" Shen smiled sadly.

"Unfortunately no, but as I lose a month of my life, some things from my past are more fresh than it would normally. Five years ago, there was an important private conference at the University about modern phycology. The most prominent psychologists of that year were going to create and incorporate a new model for teaching in Campus. One of the deponents had a family member, who die the day before the conference and the Dean hurry to choose someone to take his place."

"And he choose you, over everyone else." Zhao stated, having no doubts it was true.

"Yes, but one of my colleges insisted that I was too young and inexperienced, to be part of the improvement and discussion of the new model, but he was dismissed, because the Dean consider me a genius and in league with the rest of the guest. He said that my ideas and suggestions were more in tune with the more troubled times we face and the constant demand from the stressed citizens." Shen admitted.

"And so the grudge started, because he was rejected while you were praised." Zhao finish.

"I think it started before that. He was also against me been hired as a Professor at my age and he strongly objected quite a few times in that first year, even when my classes were the ones with the most students and higher attendance."

"Thus, the envy and jealousy." Zhao could even imagine the guy fuming in the Dean's office. A prominent psychologist, making a big impression and a name for himself while younger than most, not to mention quite loved by the student body. For which the Dean once again dismissed his protest. It fitted the criteria quite perfectly.

"Also, as I remember, this college supposedly fell from a stair in his house and was hospitalize for a few weeks, although I don't know if it matches the period in which the first victim was killed. However, he had a condition afterwards. He needs a cane to help him walk these days."

"Fire up, my Wei... I will mobilize the entire nearest police station if I have to, if that take us to the mastermind behind all this madness." Zhao said as he took a notebook.

"Professor Lu Yan. This is only a speculation Yunlan, it may not be him at all." Zhao smiled.

"I know you Shen Wei, you will never hint me a name if you don't have doubts. Wherever is him or not, we will find out soon enough. Okay I will pass this information to Lin and Guo who must be in the Campus by now, so they can investigate further and ask around about this professor." Zhao said kissing him again before taking his phone to make the call.

After he passed the information to Lin, Zhao begin his own search in his computer. He was going to find out everything about this Lu Yan in the police date base, even if it was a simply parking ticket. Lin was going to make his own search in Shen Wei's computer, back in the University.

The first thing that attract Zhao's attention was coincidentally, a few parking tickets. The tickets themselves were not important, but the place in which were given was. Before Shen Wei was offer to live in the teacher's dorm, after the car accident, he lived in a small apartment a bit far from the University and it was more than curious that Lu Yan, which leaved somewhere else, had been close to Shen's apartment at night, in five different occasions. He was obviously stalking Shen Wei back then.

"Shen Wei... do you remember the case of your stalker?" Zhao asked him.

"Yes, what about it?" Shen asked back.

"Didn't the guy said that he was paid to give you a scare? That he stalk you that night because someone was making a creepy joke on you?" Zhao asked more.

"Yes. We never confirm that what he said was true, thought, because the name he gave you was fake and he was a bit drugged." Shen said as he frowned, knowing Zhao was up to something. "Why you ask?" He asked curiously.

"Well, I think I had proof now. It happen that Lu Yan's car had been illegally parked near your apartment five times, five years ago and all of them at night. Unless he had a love affair with someone who also lived in the same apartment complex than you, he was definitely stalking you. I think is safe to assume he did pay that guy to give you a scare, to test you, but you overwhelmed your fake stalker..."

"And so, he vent his anger in innocent woman..." Shen sadly said.

"It's not your fault Shen Wei... the guy obviously have mental problems, even if he hide them well." Zhao said, leaving his place behind his desk and helping his lover to stand. After that, he hug him for a while, trying to sooth, Shen Wei's troubled heart.

"Don't worry Yunlan, I will be fine. I just need to catch this killer." Shen whisper to him, as Zhao keep him in a thigh hug.

"We will, my Wei... I have already promise you that. I'm sure there must be a connection between the two killers. We find it and we can close this case."

"Thank you Yunlan... I..." Shen Wei begin, looking at him with such gratitude that make his heart love him even more.

"Don't thank me babe... you deserve that and more." Zhao said before kissing him, very gently. "Much more..." He bow to kiss him again, but when he was inches from Wei's lips, his cell phone ringed. Zhao sighed, while Shen Wei smiled, giving Zhao a slight pat on his shoulder.

"We can kiss later... all you want..." Shen whisper, red faced.

"That's a promise..." Zhao whisper back before answering the call. "Lin, what you got for me? Better be good or your bonus will be reduced in no time." He looked at Wei and wink at him.

"Oh, trusts me, it is good Chief. Between my search and Guo's talking with some professors that knew well Lu Yan, we found what you are looking for."

"What? Go on and spill it."

"First, as we have access to the professor expedients in his office, we found that all four victims came to him for a private session at some point during the past years. The last victim had scheduled a session with him, just after a psychology conference, the very same day she was killed. Actually, little Guo found a hidden box in Lu Yan office accidentally, it was closed, but I open it and in there he had some files and some work shedule and class program from the victims, but there is something even more interesting."

"Professor Lu Yan had a sister that was diagnosed with dementia, after a traumatic experience and was interned in a psychiatric institution until the day she die from a common illness ten years ago. The curious thing about her case, is that only two persons visit her while she was interned. Lu Yan, who was her only brother and hear this... Chuan Li, which was her son in law before she divorced her husband..." Zhao looked at Shen Wei, who was staring at him anxiously and smiled.

"You got him right, babe. We got the connections, Lu Yan is definitely our missing killer." Zhao said, now ready to move heaven and earth to find the one who had stab his beloved and end the life of so many young women.

"Hum, Chief? Do I get a double bonus for this?" Lin Jing asked, as he keep typing in Shen Wei's computer.

"You got it... sent all you found to me, then I will talk to my superiors and when we got the warrant, we hunt this bastard." Yunlan said as he hug back his now smiling lover and kiss him sweetly. There were just a step closer to end the case. However... little did they know, it was not going to be that easy to catch him.

AN: Thanks for reading. As I don't have much time to do a proper research, most of what was stated here about the human mind is pure nonsense that sounds good. LOL.
