Day 16

Carrie walked down the hall and found Jake asleep on a bench outside Lillian room.

"Hey wake up." She said.

Jake stretched and open his eyes. His body was sore and he had bags under his eyes.

"Carrie thank god your here. I messed up last night trying to get her to remember me. I hope you have better luck."

He then explained everything Thomas had said and what he did to upset her last night.

"I'll see what I can do." She said then entered the room.

"Carrie " she yells and a big smile shines on Lillian's face.

"How's my sunshine today?" She asked.

"I don't know why I am here. The last thing I remember was help Nana and you with the homeless meal."

"I see. Lillian today is Dec 4th 20xx. Your Nana has been gone three years now and you work for me and a nursing home. You graduated college last year with a degree in social services. You were married a few days ago to Jake Wolf."

"No... why can't I remember any of that?" Lillian started crying again but not as hard as last night.

"I'm not sure honey. What do you want to do now?" Carrie asked.

Lillian just shrugged her shoulders as tears fell from her eyes.

"Then when the Doctor says you can leave you and Toby stay with me." Carrie said.

"Who is Toby?" Lillian asked.

"Your dog. He goes everywhere with you."

"Where is he?"

"I'll ask Jake for you. Do you want to talk about anything?" Carrie asked.

"No, I have a lot to think about. At least I don't have to go to school but five years gone just like that. One thing you said Jake Smith is Jake Wolf I don't understand."

"We will talk about this later. Get some rest. I'll find Toby and check to see when you can be released."

"Thank you Carrie. Oh tell Mr. Wolf to give me time. I can't handle being married right now."

"Ok, see you soon." With that

Carrie walked out and down the hall to where Jake was sitting. He had his head down into his palms. She could tell he was tired. As she got closer he looked up.

"What did she say?" Jake asked.

Carrie took a seat beside him and placed her hand on his knee. "She has lost time. She didn't even know she had a dog. Give her some space she'll cone around in time. I'll take her home with me when she is released and help her to remember. Don't give up on her just yet."

"She is my basket of goodness. I need her." He said.

"I know and I believe she needs you too. Just give it some times." Carrie stood.

"ok, I just can't loose her"

"Where Toby? It might help to have them together."

"My grandfather has him. I'll have him bring him over." Jake hung his head.

"She told me to tell you she needs time. She can't handle being married right now. See did not say she could not handle being married." Carrie then left him alone sitting there.

He stayed there for about an hour before heading back to Lillian room. Lillian was asleep so he just stood there.

'No... No... someone help me... Go away...' Lillian was dreaming and it broke his heart. He laid down beside her and pulled her close. Soon he felt her relax and drop back into dream land. At least he could help her this way. But what would he do if she never could remember him.

Zane got all the last minute things done before tomorrow play. He had hated that Jake's mother was like this and wanted her son dead. How could this woman live with herself.

Zane's own mother had always shown nothing but loving care to him. He worked two jobs to put him through school. He called her often and sent her and one of her friends on vacation each year. She had been both Mother and Father to him growing up. His Father was killed in a high jacking when he was four so he did not remember much about him.

Zane had decided to call her tonight just to say thank you for raising him.

As he left the office he spotted Mrs. Wolf going into the hotel nextdoor.

Then a few minutes later Gary went in. They are setting up for tomorrow.

Zane took out his phone to call his boss. "Your mother and Gary went into the hotel."

"Is everything set?"

"Yes boss. How is Lillian?" Zane asked. He could here his boss take a deep breath.

"The drug took the last five years away from her mind. She wants nothing to do with me. I never thought I would care for someone like I care for her. I can't lose her."

"You won't once we take care of your parents you will make her fall for you again."

"Thanks see you in the morning."

Lillian could feel someone holding her and instead of panic she felt safe. She opened her eyes just a little and saw the man that was her husband.

As she watch him sleep holding her she took a deep breath. This was the boy from highschool that she had a crush on. Older now and even more handsome then back then. How did he become married to her.

While she was deep in thought Jake woke up and seen her staring at him.

"Hi" he said smiling at her.

She blinked and came back from her thoughts. "Hi"

"You were having a bad dream."

"Oh, ... What's your name again?" She asked.

"Jake Smith Wolf. In highschool I went by just Jake Smith."

"Why?"

"My Grandfather and Grandmother thought it would be better. There last name is Smith and they took care of me the most."

"Oh, do I know them?"

"Pop, my grandfather loves you. You help get him a dog a few days ago. He has your dog Toby right now. My grandmother passed a few years ago. You take care of garden and fish pond."

"Oh... How did we meet?"

"I bought the property Caring Hands is in and you came to talk about the lease. For me it was love at first sight but you took a few days. You helped me get rid of the arraigned marriage and things moved fast from there."

"How did I forget?"

"That is my fault. My flight attendant drugged your juice and you had a bad reaction to it."

"Did you tell her to do it?"

"No we were going on a honeymoon. She has been taken care of and can never hurt you again."

"Can you let go of me. I would like to sit up?"

Jake got out of bed and helped her arrange the pillows then sat next to her on the side of the bed.

"Anything else you want to know?" He asked.

"Are we happy?"

This was a tough one. He did not want to lie but the truth might make her run.

"We're not are we?" She asked as he pauses.

"With each other I believe so but there are a few people who are making things a little harder."

"I see. Can you leave now I want to think alone please." She closed her eyes.

Jake kissed her cheek and walked out to sleep once more on the bench outside her door.
