Sadness hits

Kai's POV

Three months have passed since Matthew moved in with me and Shay. Everything seemed like a dream but as you know dreams come to an end at some point or time. For us our dream ended with great sadness. I didn't know at the time but the day I left for work would be the second worse day of my life.

"Matthew I'm going to work and Shay is at school." I said.

"Ok I think I'm going to stay home today. I feel off but I think I'll be fine." he said.

"Ok call me if you need me" I said.

"I will" he said.

"Promise me Matthew" I said.

"I promise Kai" he said.

And so I went to work but Matthew never called me that day. It would hours later before I found out Matthew was not ok. Why he didn't call me that day I wouldn't know until later.

Matthew's POV

Kai left for work and I didn't like sitting around so I decided to clean. I cleaned the bathroom and bedroom. After I finished cleaning them I started to wash the dishes. As I was drying the dishes my stomach started to hurt it had been hurting for awhile now but it was starting to get worse. As I was putting a plate up my stomach felt as if it had been stabbed. I dropped the plate on the floor and hit it a second later. I writhed in pain. And if you don't know what that means it involves alot of screaming and crying. My stomach was killing me and I wished at that time I could've called Kai unfortunately because of all the pain I couldn't even get up and walk. If not for Kai's debts I don't know if anyone would have found me.

"Kai, open up. We've given you enough time to pay!" Cruz yelled.

"(Screaming and crying in pain)" Matthew

"Cruz that doesn't sound good" Leo said.

"Your right we should leave" said Louis.

"We can't leave, look we might be rough people put we shouldn't walk away if someone is hurt." Leo said.

"No way man, I'm leaving" Louis said.

"Cruz what are you doing?" Leo asked.

"Look Leo I'm with Louis on this one" Cruz said.

"Fine do whatever you guys want, but I'm staying." Leo said.

I heard two sets of footsteps leave but one stayed.

"Kai is that you? Are you ok?" Leo asked.

"Screams in pain" Matthew

"Kai I'm coming in." Leo said.

Leo kicked the door in. He ran in to find me in the kitchen floor screaming and crying in the floor, with a broken plate around me.

"Oh my God, hold on I'm calling help." Leo said.

Leo stayed with me until the ambulance arrived. He lied and told them he was my cousin so he could go to the hospital with me. Leo didn't know how to get a hold of Kai but since I asked he went to find him.

"Leo, I...want...Kai." I said.

"I'm sorry Matthew but I can't." he said.

"Find...him...please." I said.

"I'll try Matthew. I promise I'll try" he said.

"Thank...you." I said.

The doctor's did test after test. I later came to find out that I had stage three gastric cancer. I thought that would be the end of our happy story, however I knew I wasn't going down without a fight. Shortly after finding out Kai rushed in and Leo right behind him.

"Matthew! Your ok!" Kai cried.

"Look Matthew I found him just like I promised." Leo said.

"Thank...you...for...finding...him." I said.

"Your welcome Matthew" said Leo.

"I'm...gald...your...here." I said.

"What's wrong with you Matthew?" both Leo and Kai asked.

"I have stage three gastric cancer." I told them.

"Will you be ok?" Kai asked (with tears in his eyes).

"I'll be ok...with some time...and treatment." I said

"I'm leaving Matthew but get well soon, and I'll visit you again." Leo said.

"Goodbye...Leo...thank you...for...staying." I said.

"I owe you one for hitting you, and now me debts been paid." Leo said.

"You never...owed me anything...Leo, and I never...held it against...you for hitting me." I said.

"Thank you for not holding it against me Matthew, I'll be on my way now." Leo said.

"Goodbye...Leo...I'll see...you...around." I said.

"See ya around Matthew" said Leo

Leo left and Kai spoke up.

"Your really going to be ok?" Kai asked.

"I'll be fine...Kai, so don't...worry." I said.

"Good because you can't leave me yet" Kai said.

"You can't...get ride...of me...easily Kai. I'm not...leaving...without a...fight." I said.

"Thank you for fighting to live." Kai said.

Kai's POV

After letting Matthew rest for a few hours. I bent over and kissed him lightly. Though he must have felt it because his eyes slowly open, and he wrapped his weak arms around me. After he let go of me, he pull the covers back. I knew this meant he wanted me to hold him. And like I always do I crawled into the small hospital bed and wrapped my arms around him. I closed my eyes and breathed in his scent. He smelled like lemongrass soap and winter mint gum. I thought about when Leo came to find me and told me Matthew was in the hospital, I thought I was going to lose him forever. And the thought of that scared me, I had fallen so hard for him and now I couldn't imagine living in a world without him. I know that sounds so cheesy but at the time that was just how I felt. As I held Matthew tears silently slide down my cheeks. I decided to say everything that I silently held in my heart to Matthew.

"Matthew I can't lose you ok." I said.

"You'd never lose me, because you still carry my heart." Matthew said.

"It wouldn't be the same" I said.

"I know it wouldn't but you have to remember I love you." Matthew said.

"I love you too Matthew." I said.

"I mean it. I love you always and forever." Matthew said.

"I know I love you too, so you have to get better ok." I said.

"I know and I will eventually" Matthew said.

"I believe in you Matthew." I said.

"Thank you for staying by my side" Matthew said.

"Always Matthew. For better or worse" I said.

"Kai let's get married." Matthew said.

"I thought you didn't like marriage." I said.

"I don't unless, it's you I'm marrying." Matthew said

"I would love to marry you Matthew James Lorance." I said.

As we laid in the small hospital bed we told each other we'd spend the rest of our lives together, and that was my happiest moment. For me Matthew was my everything, and while I had been with others I knew the moment I saw Matthew he'd be the only one in my heart. I was gald I would marry Matthew, because even though I knew there was a chance he'd get better, I was still preparing for the worst. I wanted to spend ever last day we had together. What I didn't know at that time, was that it wouldn't be Matthew leaving me but me leaving Matthew. Matthew and I would marry right after his first treatment of chemotherapy and radiation.

"Matt are you ready for your treatment?" asked the nurse.

"As ready as I'll ever be." Matthew said.

The nurse looked over at me and spoke a second later.

"Are you his support group?" she asked me.

"Yes I'm his support group." I said.

"It's always good to have a support group, the treatments can get pretty rough." she told us.

"Will there be other people with me in the treatment room." Matthew asked.

She put Matthew in the wheelchair and started to push him out the room before answering him.

"There will be others in the room with you so you'll met others like you." she said.

"Will you come with me Kai?" Matthew asked.

"You betcha, I will." I said.

"It's always good to see someone with support" said the nurse.

"We're almost there now. Right?" Matthew asked.

"Yes we're here now. Do you see it, it's over there?" the nurse answered.

"Help me out of this chair Kai." Matthew said.

"With pleasure." I said.

I picked Matthew up and carried him into the room. Of course the nurse told me to be gentle but I was always gentle when it came to Matthew. The nurse told me where to put Matthew down at and so reluctantly I sat him down. The nurse put in switch his IV bag with his chemo bag and so began his treatment. I pulled a chair up next to Matthew and sat there holding his hand. Next to Matthew sat two young boys who looked about two or three years younger than him. I later came find out that we'd all become great friends. They would soon introduce themselves as Williams and Asher. (btw the sick one is Asher and the other boy is Williams).

"Your new here aren't you" said the sick boy.

"I am, it's my first treatment." Matthew answered.

"You must be his support" said the other boy.

"Yes I am, I am." I said.

"Oh, how rude of us, we didn't tell you are names." said the sick boy.

"Oh that's right, I'm Kai and this is Matthew." I said.(not sick)

"Nice to metcha I'm Williams and this is Asher." said Williams.(not sick)

"Oh but our friends call us Will and Ash." said Asher.(sick)

"They call me Matt, other then Kai here." Matthew said.(sick)

"So what kind of cancer do you have?" asked Asher.

"Stage three gastric cancer. What about you?" Matthew asked.

"Stage two leukemia, the rare form." said Asher.

"So are you two friends?" I asked.

"Oh um no we're together." Will answered.

"So your a couple?" Matthew asked.

"We are and we understand if that make you uncomfortable." said Asher.

"Not at all, and here I thought we were they only gay couple Matthew." Kai joked.

"Well I guess we thought wrong then right Kai." Matthew said.

"So wait, you two are also a couple?" Will asked.

"Of course we are. I thought we made it completely obvious." Matthew said.

"Well I kinda thought you were but then you didn't really act like it." Asher said.

"Well I'll admit it to anyone who ask me." I said.

"So how long have you to been together." Will asked.

"We've been together for about four months" Matthew answered.

"How about you how long have you two been together?" I asked.

"We've been together for a year now." Asher answered.

Suddenly Matthew's monitor went out. A few seconds later the nurse came in and interrupted our conversation.

"Looks like your done for the day Matt." she said.

"Thanks nurse Maggie." said Matthew.

"Your welcome Matt, and have a nice day." Maggie said.

With that the nurse left. And our conversation with Asher and Will resumed.

"I guess we'll see you and your support around Matt" said Asher.

"Matthew I'll be right back, don't move." I said.

"Ok, I'll stay here till you get back." Matthew said.

I turned and left. I knew where I was going and I knew how to get there. I walk straight to the waiting room for surgery. I sat down and heard footsteps behind me so I turned around and there stood Will.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"I followed you. Why are you here?" Will asked.

"I often come to sit here." I said.

"Why?" Will asked.

"I sat here once when I was Asher's age." I said.

"Why were you sitting here?" Will asked.

"I sat here that night I thought I'd lose my younger brother." I said.

"What happened that night?" Will asked.

"My younger had been in a car accident. He had to go have surgery." I said.

"What happened next?" Will asked.

"I thought I was going to lose him, because he died on the table once, but he pulled through that night." I said.

"So why are you sitting here now?" Will asked.

"I thought I was going to lose Matthew yesterday and there's still a chance I might." I said.

"There's always a chance you'll lose someone to cancer Kai. However you have to enjoy what little time you have with them." said Will.

"I want Matthew to pull through like my brother did." I said.

"I believe he will one day, just like Asher will." Will said.

"Look Will if you ever need anything call me. My number is 479-455-9858." I said.

"I will, we should probably get back now." Will said.

"Your right if we don't go back now the guys will get up and walk out." I said.

And so my conversation with Will ended. I went back to the room to find Matthew exactly where I left him. I bent down so Matthew would get on my back. Like always Matthew knew exactly what I wanted. He crawled on to my back and that's how we left the hospital that day.
