The Enemy (Jacob's p.o.v)

Jacob sat at his study. A pen held in his hand, he stared onto the blank page of his diary. His eyes literally burned holes into the page. Often, Paul would enter the room and place his official phone on the table as it rings continuously. He would inform something, but Jacob never paid attention to what he spoke. In defeat and a slight annoyance, Paul would walk out.

Jacob couldn't decide what to do. There were only a few ways to compromise with the dangerous investors. But those few ways were truly risky.

If he didn't find a way to settle the deal between the Dean enterprise and the nine investors soon, there would be chaos, which is going to harm the company and even Laira. Also, if they were to find out about her, then he couldn't possibly imagine what would happen. They might force her to pay the money by herself. Which means, the poor girl would have no choice but to give up her 90 percent ownership of the company. But it wouldn't end there. They might inquire about the remaining 10 percent, which according to them are in her brother's name. But his death makes the entire ownership of the company under Laira's name. The sole heir of the Dean enterprise. If they realize that it is not the truth, they might threaten Laira, expecting that she would be hiding it in order to save the company.

He recalled her face when his father broke the news to her. To be frank, he couldn't face her. He didn't know what to say to that girl. She lost everyone she held dear in one night. And now she is suffering even more. At such a young age, no one would be able to handle this kind of a responsibility. He himself had joined his father in handling the business when he turned 21. He followed his father's advice in every age. People had said that he lacked an identity. But they were all shocked as they watch him become the youngest influential business tycoon.

He was a man without fear. But he would melt for Laira.

Her sorrowful smile flashed in his eyes, the day his parents had come. He saw her eyes well up as soon as she saw his father.

Those hazel eyes held a deep hurt when she was told about the investors. But within a few moments, hope had flashed in her eyes, and it had surprised Jacob. When she hopefully asked his father, whether they could take over the company for her, he wanted to go and give her a big hug and ask for forgiveness. He knew it was impossible to do that. He knew the accident wasn't the worst that has happened in her life.

There wasn't much they could do as long as they don't find out that unknown inheritor. Jacob had little clue of who it could be. And he was determined to start looking for him, even though deep down he was afraid to never find him.

After their discussion, she had given a heart crushing smile and had left the room walking slowly, almost in a daze, towards her room. He had followed her. His mind was in a constant conflict, whether to go to her and console her or just let her be alone to calm herself. Inspite of it, he had followed her till her room. As soon as she closed the door, he heard her weeping. His heart clenched and he shut his eyes to stop his own tear from flowing.

He cared for her. And he couldn't bear to watch her cry.

But what could he do?

He was merely the chairman of the Jaran company, his father's company.

However, he handles the company in his father's place as expected of a son.

Laira had always looked up to him and he knew it. She saw him as a big brother, something he didn't quite appreciate. He wanted her to see him as a friend. But that wasn't her fault, it was his. He had always taken extra care of her more than he had cared for Jasmine or Ranz. He had always felt strongly towards her.

"Sir." a voice said from outside. It was followed by a knock.

"Come in." Jacob said. Finally letting someone in, they had his attention.

"Sir, I have some news regarding the investigation." a man in a black body guard uniform spoke, as he walked towards Jacob with a white envelope.

"Did you get news about Aubert's new plan, Gerald?"

Gerald was void of any expression, as he placed the envelope on the table.

"Our spies have been monitoring his activities for a while now. His men are constantly called for duty to his guest house. They seem to have some crucial information regarding the unknown inheritor of the Dean enterprise." Gerald spoke, his brown eyes fixed on Jacob.

Jacob sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. Aubert was definitely a threat. He is one cunning man who should never be underestimated. If he has information regarding the unknown inheritor, its possible he is planning on taking over the company himself. All this time he had so cleverly denied any kind of partnership that the other investors had offered him, just so that once he take over the company, he wouldn't have to worry about sharing it. That also means, he is powerfull, now.

Suddenly his eyes widened.

"That bloody son of bitch!" he roared. As he grabbed his phone and dialed his father.

"Hello?."

"Dad, Laira is in danger. We need to do something right now." he said with panic.

"What?! How?" Uncle Ruth asked impatiently.

" There was a group of men spotted in Shahing Hospital, where Laira was treated. They seemed to have received some information. We must do something immediately.

" That's impossible Jacob! I made it absolutely sure to not leak the information about her. No one except Dr. Maria and Surgeon Kumar knows about her personnel information." Uncle Ruth was roaring through the phone. But Jacob didn't flinch even a bit. He held the phone firmly as he spoke the next words.

"Aubert knows... that she survived!"
