A second later, I immediately ran as fast as lightning towards the foothill. Even though we had already covered half of the distance, this meadow was too wide. The range between me and the foothill was roughly one kilometer. Getting there took a long time. I didn't know if we could reach the foot of the mountain any faster before the spider caught us up.
I glanced back, nothing could be seen. The insect seemed to be still waiting underground. That was a bad sign. If it was stayed still, it means that the giant spider was confident that it could catch us easily.
The three of us had been running as fast as we could for a while, but still, the foot of the mountain seemed far away. Dimas and Kak Shella were still lagging behind. The man held Kak Shella's hand so she wouldn't fall. It seemed that he had no intention of letting go of such a beautiful girl's hand. As if he would rather drag her away than leave Kak Shella. Dimas even brought her backpack, which looked big.
However, both were still at the same pace. At this rate, we wouldn't be able to pass through this meadow safely.
I lead the way ahead. Splitting the grass that for some reason, was getting higher. Dipping my body in the meadow to the chest. Damn! This grass made my speed slower. I was afraid we couldn't —.
*DRRR!!
Suddenly a rumbling sound was heard behind me. I turned quickly to see what was going on. Sure enough. The bad possibility that I thought had just happened. The two spiders emerged from the ground and galloped towards us.
"Hurry up!!" I shouted loudly.
Dimas reflexively took Kak Shella's hand and ran faster than before. The man did not look back and immediately took a thousand steps. So do I. Being at the front made me inevitably choose an easy path for my companions to pass behind. Although it wasn't very effective, I also had time to cut the grass blocking my way with my small dagger.
The rumbling sound was approaching faster than I thought. My legs have been forced to run fast but still couldn't beat the speed of the two insects.
"Shella!!"
Dimas' screams made me stop, then looked back. Shit! Kak Shella fell. Her feet tripped over animal ribs sticking out of the ground. What made it worse, her leg sprained and made her unable to stand properly. Let alone running. I dripped beads of sweat all over my body. My heart beat fast. My eyes drifted back. Not far from here, two giant insects came here at full speed to prey on us. We couldn't move an inch. Of course, Dimas and I will not leave Kak Shella.
What should I do?
"Shella! Stay here and crouch under this grass. Make sure they don't see you. And move forward quietly!" said Dimas as he took off Kak Shella's backpack and put it on the ground. Then he turned to me. "Anggi! Let's hold off this fucking monsters!"
I nodded. Leaving Kak Shella here, the two of us walked over to the monsters. The longer the spider looked bigger. My eyes could see the eight hairy legs clearly. Also, its face was very ugly. Holy shit! It really was the ugliest face I'd ever seen.
"I'll handle the right one, while you are the other one," said Dimas.
The man stepped forward, drawing his sword from its glittering scabbard. The man took a stance while brandishing his sword forward. While I prepare my bow and arrow. I pulled my hand deep to stretch the bow. I lined my eyes with the arrow forward towards one of the monsters.
Unfortunately, I wasn't a good archer. I could only shoot at a target that was within a dozen meters. So I waited until the monster came within range of my shooting range.
A few seconds later, one of the giant spider monsters approached rapidly. As soon as I let go of my hand, the arrow immediately shot forward. But sadly, the arrow only grazed its body.
"Shit, I missed!" I cursed angrily.
Then take one more arrow and prepare to release it. The big bug was getting closer. I wouldn't miss this time. In one breath, I released another arrow. It flew fast in the air. With such speed and at close range, it would definitely be able to hit the monster. I didn't expect too much to kill it with just that, but at least it knocked out the opponent.
However, reality said otherwise. The arrow that should have pierced through the monster's body bounced in another direction after hitting it. I glared. Nothing should be able to withstand arrows with sharp edges except shields or armor. A living being would definitely be hurt when faced with a fast-moving arrow. But not with this spider. It was still running towards here like nothing had happened before.
Perhaps...
"Dimas, be careful! The shell of this insect is so hard!" I shouted at Dimas.
I saw him nod. After that, I didn't know what happened next. Because in the second after, I had to roll sideways to avoid the giant spider's lunge. Then I got up. That was when I could really see the figure of this creature clearly.
This spider was huge. Its height can reach more than two meters. I had to look up to meet the eight eyes on its face. I was right. This was the ugliest face I'd ever seen in my life. In addition, the legs are very long and hairy. Judging from its characteristics and habit of hiding in the ground, it seemed that this spider belonged to the Trap Door Tarantula. Although I didn't know for sure.
The insect again attacked me with its front paws, but I could dodge it by rolling or occasionally jumping backward. I drew another arrow, this time right in front of its ugly face. But again, the arrow had no effect at all. The spider only flinched once. The next second it was already directing its fury at me.
It uses its multi-segmented front paws to hit me. I dodged again, but not everything worked. One of its attacks managed to hit my stomach and bounced this body a few meters away. The pain hadn't gone away yet. I have to be confronted by the spider monster that jumped here. I rolled forward, right under his floating body. The monster's two fangs plunged into the ground. If one second was too late, my body would have two big holes. It looked like its fangs were poisonous, as it emitted smoke when it hit the ground.
"Oh, shit! My arrow doesn't work. I'm going to die at this rate."
I glanced at Dimas. The man was not that different from me either. He had a hard time dealing with this damn insect monster. The blade couldn't cut the giant spider's leg, not even scratch it. Often times his sword clashed with the opponent's hard shell but did not result in anything. He had to roll over and over to get to me. We turned our backs to each other to not create any blind points against the monsters.
"How about you? My sword can't pierce it at all," he said behind my back.
"Same with you. My arrows are just a toy to it."
"How about you use Esze?"
"I can only use wind type. I don't think it's a good idea considering how tough their shells are."
"Just give it a try!" he ordered.
I doubt it would work, but true to his words, it was worth a try. My hand reached into my pocket, where I kept a black viglet with an ivory pattern.
My hand raised the viglet and aimed it at the spider monster in front of me. The huge insect stood still as if waiting for the right time to attack. I concentrated completely on the viglet. Then in one breath ...
"Vitr Blast!"
