Chapter 30: Shielding the skies is the purpose of me, uncle Marvel.

Carol Denvers, half human, half kree. She grew up on earth but in the end she left it. Humans were weak creatures, they lived for a very short time.

Even though she had loved ones, she always felt that she didn't belong. No matter how much a lion loves cats, it can never live among them.

Every now and then she came back, to protect the place she grew up in, but this is a first for her, seeing someone amongst the humans that can take one hundredth of her power.

"I'm Superman, Earth's mightiest protector." Superman said, "And you're here to protect earth from the invasion if I understood it correctly." He continued.

"Yes, I'm... Captain Marvel." She said, not sure about anything. Did she really just attack one of the good guys

"Are you here to join the Avengers?" He asked

"Avengers?.... Yes, I think he mentioned something like that." She said thoughtfully.

He then started to fly towards the waters outside of New York, while she followed.

They soon found themselves on the helicarrier.

When they landed on the helicarrier, Carol Denvers as she called herself, couldn't help but be surprised at the speed humans were developing, at least since the last time she was here.

"Superman!" Most workers and agents couldn't help salute as they saw him, he had become the symbol for heroism in the last few years.

Seeing how well liked and respected Superman was, Captain Marvel couldn't help but to remember

How he had introduced himself as "Earth's mightiest hero!"

'Maybe in the past pal, but now that I'm here.' She thought as she smirked, for some reason she really wanted to see this good looking guy, fall down a step or two.

They walked through the halls until they reached a central room, where everyone was working, except for one guy, that was playing cards on the super advanced SHIELD computers.

"Welcome to SHIELD" Superman introduced

"Superman, I don't think Nick Fury will enjoy the fact that you brought..." A woman looked Captain Marvel up and down before continuing

"A guest... with you." The woman had brown hair and looked like a professional, but something about her screamed deadly, all the same.

"Don't worry Ms. Hill I, I didn't bring a guest, this is Nick Fury's Guest." He said with a smile.

But everyone turned their heads at that, Someone came to see that reclusive baldy? He has friends? and it's a young hottie looking, Blondie with tights?

Wait, did their Director have a private life outside of work? All of them were looking at her as if they found a new side to the reclusive super spy director!

"The director is on his way." Agent Maria Hill stated, before going back to work.

"Good I'll leave this puppy here with you, I've got hero things to do and people to save!" Superman said with a bright smile as he flew outside.

All the people inside were looking at him with a hint of reverence. Maria Hill just looked at his flying back as he left.

Captain Marvel now realised why she found him slightly annoying. It was the same thing that had made her the best pilot in the air force, she was very competitive. Same suit colouring and similar powers, she couldn't help feeling her competitive side awaken.

"Who's a puppy!" She shouted at his back, and just as she was going to fly after him, The shield director walked in.

Everybody looked at him, then the Blondie. Waiting for some juicy information leak.

Nick Fury just looked at everyone and wondering why they were looking at him in that way.

" I HEARD THAT, Haaa.... haa....SUPERMAN IS HERE, haaa.. I CAME AS SOON AS I HEARD, haaa." Suddenly Spiderman rushed in, breathing as hard as he could. He rushed here when he heard the news.

Seeing Everyone looking suspectfully at the director, Spiderman couldn't help asking.

"Have you grown your hair back Mr. Fury?" Spiderman questioned as he raised his hand to feel his head.

Nick Fury almost couldn't help raising his hand to feel as well when he heard Spiderman's remark.

But his experience as the world's best agent had trained his self control and self-discipline, so he barely managed to stop his hands from flying up.

"Don't you dare." Fury threatened Spiderman, as Spiderman's spider-hand neared the shiny, bald head.

But it was too late. His spider hand whas feeling the shiny and soft scalp of the world's most dangerous agent.

Nick Fury used to carry a little notebook where he used to write down the names of people he would kill, he had stopped doing that lately, but his hands almost went for his inner pockets as a habit

"No hair? Then why is everyone looking at you like that? Did you accidentally show your Superman undies as well?" Spiderman asked as he realised the problem.

"What's going on Agent Hill?" Fury wondered as well, so he asked one of his most trusted.

'Can it be that I have lost more hair? But there's nothing I can do about that, this is the price of the intensive three year training I did in my younger career.' Fury pondered.

"Superman made a sly innuendo about you and... your guest." Agent Hill answered professionally looking towards Captain Marvel.

Nick Fury looked over and recognized the face, that hadn't aged a day since he last saw her.

He had sent a signal to her before the invasion, hoping for her help.

"Aren't you late? He asked looking towards one of the most powerful people he knew.

Before she could answer, another Avenger walked in, It was the Wakandan King! He also looked like he had hurried, he didn't even wear his suit.

"What... for what reason have you come? Nick couldn't help but to ask, after all, Black Panther was someone that spent most of his time taking care of his country, rarely showing his face here except for Avengers business.

Black Panther took a quick look around the room and then said. "A good king must always make regular visits to the places under him, to make sure everything is fine."

He then turned around and left. They could hear the Wakandan Aircraft leaving the helicarrier just as fast as it had come.

Nick Fury took Carol Denvers to one of his offices while giving her an update on what's going on.

"So you want me to join this group of... Avengers?"

"Yes"

"Then I've got no choice but to be the Captain of the Avengers" She said with a sigh, this is the burden of being her, always the strongest, smartest and most powerful.

"That role is filled." Fury said as he entered his office and sat on his chair.

"Then assistant Captain to the Avengers?" she asked?

" You can be the Assistant TO the captain of Avengers." He corrected.

"Assistant Captain." She answered.

"Assistant to the captain." He said once again.

"Fine, I won't stay for long anyway. I'll show people my face, help them and when they know that they have a Captain Marvel, they'll feel safer whenever something like an alien invasion happens again.

I'll become the symbol of hope!" She said as she realised her role.

"About that... you can be the Assistant to the symbol of hope..." Nick Fury said.
