Me and the Fateful Day

I walked up to the school gate with cherry blossoms swirling around me more than usual in this time of year. On the gate there's a sign that said Tokoton High School*, known as one of the best public high schools in Japan. Then, I see a beautiful blond girl gazing into the sky. Is she new? She looks like a foreigner, I thought.

She has beautiful green eyes and long blond hair. I gaze at her intently until she looks back. Then, she goes inside the school building and already drawing quite a bit of attention. Wait, She might be one of those nasty girls who make fun of people they don't like, and purposely excluded them, I thought. Well, I'll find out soon enough. I headed inside the high school where I'll be spending three years in.

When I walked inside and took my seat into class 1-A**, I saw our new teacher and the beautiful blond girl from this morning. "My name is Ms. Aki, and I'll be your teacher this year and before we move on, There's a new transfer student I would like to introduce." She gestured the blond girl to come closer. "Tell us your name and a little bit about yourself." The blond girl face the class and she spoke,

"Hey, my name is Chuyo Emico***, and my dad is from France."

The crowd was overjoyed and made lots of noise until Ms. Aki told them to settle down. A French blond girl? This must be a miracle, I thought. I was gazing at her even more. Then, my friend said in a playful teasing voice, "Hey, Looks like your dream has come true!" "Come on, this is how you reacted when there was that girl from Spain." I replied in the same tone. And then, he was unable to reply because a bunch girls swarmed around him like always.

My best friend named Daisuke Eito, has been my best friend since kindergarten. He has nice brown hair, wears glasses, and very nice to everybody. That has led to not only me being his best friend, but almost all of the girls liking him. I mean, you see posters of him being sold at lunch by students (even though private sales on school property has been banned, students keep selling it because no one listens to the school rules anyways. I also heard that a regular flow of female teachers are also buying it?)

He's constantly being asked out by a lot of girls subtly, but this guy is really dense, so he doesn't get the hint and invites me to come along too. When the girl is with Daisuke, the girls treat me very kindly and tries to talk to me. But as soon as he disappears, they give me the cold shoulder. So recently when he invites me to something like that, I make up an excuse why I can't go (I know that's being a bad friend, but at the same time I don't want to wait in deafening silence.)

I look to my right and I see a girl waving at me. Her name is Kiyoko Hikari, me and her go way back. Even tough she's my friend, we don't talk as much as we used to (Don't worry, I'll tell you why.) Back in the second year of middle school****, I have fallen in love with her. So, that winter I confessed my love to her and got rejected (Do I even need to tell you that part?) For about a year, it got awkward between us and we didn't speak to each other. After a while, We found courage to talk again.

Now I'm thinking, What would have happened if I waited longer to confess my feelings? Would things have turned out differently? I thought about the new blond girl. Maybe this is a chance for a new start, but how can I go from nothing to something? I didn't know what the answer to that question was yet.
