Simply entered his room. He spotted Rexignis looking out of the round window which overlooked the garden.
"Did you have a good rest?"
Rexignis nodded. He approached the kindhearted nobleman, "Yes, I did. I also had the time to think about what to do next."
"Great, what are you going to do?"
"I overheard the innkeeper yesterday. He said that you are going to establish a new outpost in the wild. I. If you would have me in your service," he knelt in front of the silver haired swordsman. "I, Rexignis, son of Cornelius, hereby swear fealty and service to Ser Simply of House Umbra. In peace or war. In living or dying. From this hour henceforth, until my lord release me or death take me."
Simply pause for a few seconds, his eyes sparkling. "And, I shall remember it. Nor fail to reward what was given. I, Ser Simply of House Umbra, Knight of the Order of Zakir, accept you into my service."
Tears of joy rolled down the teen's cheeks. Simply observed his new companion. Rex had long dirty black hair that was a complete mess, his skin was caked with dirt. Overall, his appearance was that of an unkempt begar. Only one thing stood out from this filthy mess of a person, his eyes. They were common brown eyes yet something buried deep down. Hidden. Sleeping.
"Alright, now that you are one of my men, you are going to learn how to properly groom yourself."
Rex noticed his foul appearance. Ashamed he exclaimed, "I apologise, my lord. I was exhausted from everything. I will get to it immediately."
"No harm is done. Once you are done meet me at this address. Did you receive any weapon training prior to your migration?"
"My father taught me hand-to-hand combat and dimachaerus style."
"Dimachaerus?"
"It is a sword form using two short swords."
"Awesome! You can dual-wield! Badass. Alright, I'll forge two blades for you."
---
Simply headed straight towards the blacksmith. The shabby smith hadn't changed much. He pushed the door open. The old man was no longer there. Instead, a note was laid on his sit.
'Young man, if you return to my workshop in my absence feel free to use it. As long as you don't burn it down.'
'Alright, seems like I have the place to myself! Time to get to work. Two identical short swords. This is going to be challenging. For one I don't even have crafting design, so I'm going to need to eyeball it. Alright.'
He lit the forge up. While he waited for it to heat up, he started taking out a few ingots of refined iron and a few logs of maple wood. He began processing the logs into planks.
He placed an iron ingot within the fiery hot forge until it turned red. Using a long tong he moved it to an anvil and started the long, arduous process of drawing the blade out.
The blade was probably the most crucial part of designing a sword. It dictated the general use of the sword and the centre of balance. Get it wrong, and the design will be rejected by the Ai. Simply shaped the red hot ingot into a straight blade. The blade was double-edged with a hexagonal cross-section. It was around eighty centimetres long, from the sharp v-shaped point to the tip of the full tang.
Simply hammered away at it, reheating it from time to time. When he was done with the blade, he moved on to the pommel and the guard. He forged them with a very minimalist design.
His mouth curved into a smile as he looked over his semi-finished product. Placing it down, he began the entire process once again. His concentration on the task at hand was astounding. When Rex entered the workshop, Simply did not even notice him. After another hour of hard work, he completed the second blade. Rubbing his hands together, he placed both blades back into the blazing forge, before quickly quenching them in water.
Once he was happy with them, he started fashioning the scabbard and handle out of the maple planks. He secured the guard, handle and pommels to the blade by hammering them into place while the tang was red hot. Using scraps of leather, he wraps the wooden handle to provide a better grip and make it more comfortable for the wielder.
