MAYBE OR MAYBE NOT

The heavy aura covered the room with pin drop silence. No one uttered a single word. As Su Lin rested in the tall wingback chair with creased eyebrows beads of sweat slowly formed in the forehead of the people surrounding him.

Everything that happened was not within his calculations. He was not even able to complete a quarter of his plans. It all went awry. He contemplated what to do next to fix this mess. As he got into his line of thoughts, he got interrupted by the loud noise that came from opening the doors.

He turned his head to see Bohai barge in through the doors. He clearly seemed irritated and ready to take out all his frustration. He slowly leaned back to take in what was coming.

"What the hell did you do? Did you just let her go like that?"

"No. I didn't let her go. She escaped."

"You know the mess you have created right."

"It is not something to stress on. We could just try harder."

"Despite how calmly you are staying you know very well what your situation is."

Lin silently got up from his chair and walked towards the window.

"Everyone can leave and start cleaning up whatever is left to do." He commanded.

As the doors close behind Lin spoke up, "She didn't even give me a chance to talk. I tried to but she just kept on pushing me away. She also got hurt due to the drug."

"What do you mean?"

"She slipped and lost a lot of blood. She really needed a lot of rest but, she just fought all those people and drove all the way out."

"So why didn't you follow her out? At least you could have done that."

"We missed the timing. We lost track of her... Do you think it is the end?"

"…..maybe or …..maybe not."

Su Lin looked out through the window to the far end not knowing what to do.

"It is only making me more restless."

The room returned to the usual silence with only the sound of their shallow breathing left. Everything was looking bleak at the moment.

As Mei was about to walk into the kitchen, she heard the conversation Hui was having with his niece. It was nothing special expect when the name Liling popped out. She had remembered the child who she helped out. Seeing Liling brought back memories of her nephew who she misses dearly.

She slowly recollected the things that happened that day. She remembered getting a glimpse of her uncle that they were searching when Liling was lost. As the call ended, she confronted him with her questions to confirm her doubts.

"That is a good name your niece has got."

"Yes, I agree. Anyways, you grabbing a sandwich?"

"I gotta fill myself up before I go to bed. How about you? Are you done with your coffee?"

"Yup. All done."

"That's great. Then why don't you see yourself out. I won't have to show you out right. You know the way right. Then hope to never cross path."

"Wait. From where to where did you take this talk. Are you kicking me out?"

"Nope. You were never welcomed to begin with. You just barged in. So, I was just guiding you right. You know 'Guidance'."

"That's mean."

"I am fine with that."

He suddenly felt a déjà vu. He made his way out of the apartment. On his way he met Xue who was sitting in the sofa. After a small greeting he left the apartment and headed to the parking spot.

He got inside the jeep, sat down and took some time to settle down. He then started to think what happened. He had missed the people who had tailed him this time. This had cause the situation that he was in right now. But more than everything he was curious about the person he had met.

She had heavy injuries on her but still she was able to hold on for quite a long time. Her detached behavior and alertness just drives him more to think about all the things that she is hiding. It was a strong hunch he had that made him think that she had deep secrets.

He drove out of the compound as he made up his mind to dig up a little bit about her.
