Ruined

Ivy's mother rushed over to see if she was alright the moment she saw the tears. "Where does it hurt, sweetie? Can you tell me?"

"My head," she managed to get out as her body doubled over from the force of her sobs.

Her life was ruined. Completely ruined. It would take years to get used to this if she ever could at all. All of her hard work to fit in and appear normal had disappeared in an instant now that she had to start over from scratch.

It had taken Ivy most of elementary school to learn how to control her ability enough to hide it. The first thing she had to do was figure out how to block out as much of the noise as possible so she could concentrate. Then she had to teach herself not to respond to people's thoughts, which had taken a LOT of practice.
