Broken Time

Time is a law, and like all laws it could not be broken. That is what those in the formerly known "Time Realm" thought. Then one day the giant dragon known as Qydom who lived in a space that existed between time, actually destroyed time itself. Or so he thought.

Time split into seven pieces which inhabited the creatures of The Time Realm. It evolved each of them giving them abilities that far surpassed their prior forms.

Griffins, formerly a tiger and bird hybrid, evolved into beings of pure light with angelic wings that reflect all forms of light. They also became more human and less animal like in appearance.

Some humans evolved into a race known as dwarves. They were imbued with an eternal fire that never stops burning, they can create the strongest weapons out of the weakest of metals. Although small in size, they have the strength of 100 humans each.

Fairies, small creatures who mainly flew in wooded areas, evolved into beings who are one with nature. They grew to the size of humans, and gained expert marksmanship as well as the power of healing.

Nymphs, which were one with nature evolved into beings with the power to understand all elements. They could speak with the trees, control the weather, and disappear without a trace.

Other humans evolved into Avarians a mix of human bird. They were imbued with the power of flight, as well as the ability to create storms.

The last of the humans didn't change much, instead they evolved into beings of chaos capable of free will. They could change the world as they see fit, or cause great destruction.

Fish evolved into beings known as mermaids. They were imbued with the power of water, they could cause a hurricane, or a sea storm that would cause any pirate fear.

Each of these new races needed someone to lead them, and time decided who. Reasu lead the griffins, Inferanus lead the dwarves, Nerida leaded the fairies, Opalion lead the nymphs, Ava lead the avarians, Helious lead the humans, and Aquata lead the mermaids.

These leaders decided to call where they now lived "The Timeless Realm." They often held competitions to see who was stronger, but they always worked together when it mattered and were able to establish a realm that prospered.

This was the advertisement for the newest game "The Timeless Realm." This game would allow full VR immersion and a MMORPG style. Caleb, who was a huge gaming nerd was definitely intrigued by it!

Caleb wasn't the typical nerd. He was tall, handsome, and had well defined muscles. On the outside, he was a gym rat and socialized with everyone. People considered him to be the most popular senior in his high school.

On the inside though, he loved video games and everything that was associated with them. Whenever he play a game, his whole demeanor changed. He would focus solely on that game and wouldn't pay attention to anything going on around him.

After he progressed a certain amount in a game, he would eventually get bored with it. When that happened he would usually hack in to the game to alter the source code however he wanted. He never failed in hacking a game, and he did so flawlessly.

When "The Timeless Realm" released, needless to say, Caleb was more than excited for a new game to play. It included full VR immersion and was the first VRMMORPG of its time.

When he first started the game, he had to calibrate the VR suit as well as create a user account. He chose his character to be a fairy with the name Haedre. He chose a fairy because archery was his favorite sport and he loved everything to do with nature.

When he spawned in the new world, he was in a forest. He could feel the texture of the leaves, smell the flowers, and feel the warmth of the sunlight on his skin. This forest was called the "Eternal Forest" and was the home of the fairies.

The quest system was very intuitive and included 10,000 quests. These quests ranged from something as simple as gathering herbs to something as complicated as locating and taming a dragon.

After Caleb played for a month, he became level 40, completed 4,000 quests, and created a guild called "Fairy's Domain." It became the strongest guild in the eternal forest.

After another 2 months, Caleb still wasn't bored with the game. He level up to level 100, which was the max level, and completed 9,999 quests. The only quest that was left was to locate and tame a dragon.

For about another half of a month, Caleb still couldn't complete the quest. He spent hundreds of dollars on the game, but it didn't help him with this particular quest. He was finally starting to get bored of the game.

Seeing no other option, he decided to try and hack the game. He succeeded, and when he was looking at the source code, he saw a few things that caught his eye. First, there weren't any dragons set to spawn. Second, there was a secret class that wasn't released that allowed one to play as a dragon. Third there was a dungeon that wasn't released yet. And fourth, there was a message that said "Caleb, we have been waiting for you."

After a while, he paid the message no heed. He set dragons to be able to spawn, ignored the secret class, and ignored the secret dungeon as well.

When he logged back in, he saw a dragon right in front of him. He quickly succeeded in taming it. He submitted the quest, and was the first to do so quickly.

Just then, a building started to erect in front of him. The building was only 10 feet tall, but there was a message in the air that said "Caleb, we have been waiting for you." Just like in the source code. Being a lover of danger, he entered the building without any hesitation.

The building was made of stone, and the inly thing inside was a stone staircase leading down into darkness. Caleb cast a spell called "Fairy Light" which emitted a green light. He then started to proceed down the staircase.

At the bottom of the staircase, there was a dragon skull that was bathed in gold light, and ancient writing written on the floor surrounding it.

The inscription read "He who puts on the dragon skull shall free those imprisoned by time." Another inscription read "He who puts on the dragon skull shall have everything he ever desired." The last inscription read "He who puts on the dragon skull shall lose their mind, and be thrown into everlasting darkness."

There was one more inscription on the dragon skull itself. It read "He who puts on the dragon skull shall know what is the truth and what is not the truth of this world."

Seeing as this was just a game, Caleb decided to put on the dragon skull. As soon as he put it on, he felt an agonizing pain in his head worse than he ever felt before. Then everything faded to black.
