I Should Have Known

A knock on the glass door of his office woke Si Xinfeng up from his nap. Jolting awake, he adjusted to the brightness of his office and waited for the person at the door to explain why they had dared to disturb him .

Soon, the familiar, soft and docile voice of his secretary came from the door. "Vice-President Si, there is something urgent you need to tend to." the timid secretary, Song Xiangqi who, after hesitating outside her boss's office for a full 15 minutes, finally decided to wake her boss up, despite the risks, and tell him about the news. As she waited for a response from her boss, her heart was starting to beat faster with every passing second, cold sweat forming on her forehead as she feared what would happen.

After an excruciating minute, a cold, booming voice came from inside the office," What is so important that you had to wake me up!" he shouted, clearly agitated that he had been woken up just to be told something. Knowing that her boss had always had a bad temper, especially when he was woken up from any of his already limited nap times that he had in a day. She knew that she had agitated her boss and also knew that she had to tread carefully if she wanted her life.

"Sir, " she started in her soft, gentlest voice," Its about the tracking chip you placed in Miss Rulin's burner phone. It states that she had left the Lin Mansion." After finishing her sentence, the poor secretary could just hold her breath as she awaited the wrath of her boss as she knew how her boss reacted when it was news concerning his long-time-crush, Miss Rulin.

Her eyes darkened when she thought about the woman. It was not because she had feelings for her boss, in fact she was already married to the love of her life and was blessed with two beautiful children. She had that kind of reaction to Rulin because of all of the 'Hell" that she had been put through just because the things between her boss and Rulin was not going well. She knew that her boss had made many attempts to get Rulin to be his woman but had all been turned down ruthlessly. After each of these events, her boss would come back to the office and his aura would make everyone's blood chill. His eyes would be filled with blood-thirst when he was given a report that had even the slightest imperfection and those very eyes had to be seen by the poor Xiangqi as she was the only person allowed to enter his office, well rather, the only one that dared to.

Xiangqi jolted back to reality when the glass door before her swung open, revealing a tall, dark haired, perfectly tanned man with a to-die-for muscular body and perfect features that gave people the impression that he was a statue that was chiseled by the hands of a famous artist.

" Send the security to track her down and give me information on who she has contacted within the last few hours." the man said, a distant yet alert look in his eyes. When he saw that his secretary had no reaction to his words, he raised his voice" What are you waiting for?" Xiangqi let out a small yelp and immediately bowed down low before her boss who was now glaring holes into her skull," I apologise for my incompetence Sir, I will send you the live tracking stream of Rulin's phone and information of her activity on the phone. Just give me 10 minutes."

the poor woman blurted out as she felt the temperature dropping with every passing millisecond.

" 8 minutes .Tell the squad to activate the microphone on her black card. She is not safe in public, not now. "

Xiangqi, still bowing, bit down on her lip as she heard the extra requests and the shortened deadline. But regardless, she had no choice. Gritting her teeth, she said, in a soft voice," Right away Sir." She then scurried away, frantically trying to find a way to run all the errands tasked to her on time.

Watching the tiny woman scurry away, he thought about the danger his Rulin had put herself into, by running off, first from his grasps those 8 years ago, then from the safety of her home , towards a danger that she did not even knew of.

Exactly 8 minutes later, just as requested of her, Xiangqi came rushing towards her boss who was leaning on the car door of a black Rolls Royce parked on the roundabout of the lobby of the Si corporations buildings's main lobby. Seeing the the woman finally arrive, he rushed up to her, snatched the files in her hands from her and the receiver of the tracking device on Rulin's burner phone, along with the receiver for the microphone. After collecting the things from her, or rather snatching them from her, he picked up his suitcase which contained his personal laptop, practically jumped into the car and, plugged the two receiver into the laptop and the moment the dot on his laptop screen, representing Rulin, finally stopped moving, he immediately sent the location to the driver and after which, he started reading the files about who she had contacted in the past few hours. There was only one person, and that person was enough to make Xinfeng angry.

It was a person she seemed close to but someone she did not know well. Qin Luoshan.

The messages she sent to him were: meet me at our usual spot.

When he saw those messages, Xinfeng practically saw red.

So this was the scum that was competing against him for her love. He thought to himself with agitation. I should have known.

Moments later, after his car reached the location where Rulin had stopped at. Xinfeng had expected to see Rulin, as beautiful as she had always been, smiling and laughing with the man that she loved but instead, he saw her standing outside of the cafe, surprised and with tears streaming down her face.
