The Four Corner Game (Part2)

We turned off our flashlight and started the game.

"I'll go first. I'll head towards Lucas" said Noah.

Soon, I heard light footsteps, facing the wall and walking sideways.

I don't know how, but it just feels like it although nothing can be seen.

Suddenly, a loud tap can be heard in the darkness. " Why are you hitting me so hard?" Lucas shouted. I can hear the fear in his tone.

"Did I hit that hard? Or... are you just scared?" Noah mocked.

"N-no... I'm not arguing with you anymore, I'll head towards Isaac!" said Lucas. "Remember to face the wall and walk sideways." Noah reminded.

"My shoulders are here, don't touch anywhere you want!" said Isaac. We all laughed.

This is way out of my expectation. I thought it would be scary, but I guess nothing might happen tonight.

Then, I could feel someone getting closer to me. I could hear Isaac's heavy breathing as he tapped me on the shoulder.

Guess it's my turn.

I was about to touch the empty corner as I faced the wall, walking towards it.

I coughed. And then continued to the next person.

Because I was facing the wall, I could smell the mud which made me sick.

Before I knew it, I was already standing beside Noah, and touched his neck.

"God, your hands are really cold! It's ok, don't be nervous, this is just the first round" he said as he continued.

Then, there was a loud tap again.

Noah continued to hit Lucas really hard. I thought they would end up fighting with each other, but maybe it's because of the atmosphere that made Lucas stay silent and continued with the game.

We would start small talks to ease the atmosphere a little for the past few rounds.

I slowly started to adapt to the game's atmosphere.

After about ten rounds, the small talks that we make became much lesser. In the end, we could just hear the light breathing of the four of us ( and the sound of Noah hitting Lucas). Everyone was focusing on the game.

Then, Nick suddenly talked. I almost forgot that he was outside all a long. "I heard ghosts would move facing the wall too! If ghosts were real, maybe it would think of when to join you guys."

A caugh was heard.

"What kind of ghost will it be? Would it be a ghost that is carrying a lantern? Have you guys heard of that story?" Nick continued

No one answered as we wanted to continue listening to him.

"I heard from my mom there's a ghost in this school that carries a lantern. It was a old lady, wearing a old red skirt. She always had a smile on her face. Is the smile a kind one, or one that had intentions? No one knows."

Still, no one answered.

Then, I felt Isaac tapping me on the shoulder twice.

I continued to the other corner.

Nick stayed silent after that, we silently continued the game.

Not long after that, something strange started to happen. Two rounds had passed, yet no one coughed.

"Did anyone forget to cough?" I asked.

"No" everyone answered meaning every corner stands a person.

"Which means? " Nick said from the outside.

W-which means.... theres another person in this classroom with us!

"Everyone continue." said Noah trembling. " Don't stop. "

We played for three more rounds, yet still no one coughed.

I felt more uneasey as time goes by.

My gut told me that something bad might happen if we don't stop soon. I could hear a voice, saying "that" —— is here.

In the dark and silent classroom, there was suddenly a deep cough.

"Someone coughed" Lucas heard it too and said " guess that extra person is gone now. Continue"

"Don't stop" said Noah.

"If 'that' is not at the corner, where is it at?" Nick started.

I felt someone tap me from behind.

Where is it? Thinking to myself as I continued walking.

I took a few steps, and felt something was off.

There was someone behind me, taking the same steps as me, following behind me!

In the darkness, my sixth sense became more active. I'm sure about it!

"Maybe it would be sitting on your shoulders," Nick answers his own question "and maybe the other one would take over a player's body and continue with tha game, and more would co....."

"That" is here.

"Shut up!" shouted Noah "I'm not playing anymore, it's not even fun to start with! It's hot in here and it's tiring to walk around like that."

His tone, angry and scared at the same time.

The game ended.

It's gone... the person behind me. It disappeared when Noah was shouting.

My heart was beating very fast, still shivering. What happened there made me feel like it was just one step away from hell.

"Is the game ending?" Nick said with a strange tone.

Then, my phone vibrated, it was from Nick. "I arrived home safely. "

So, Nick was never with us all this time? He went running home from the moment we step inside the school.

A chill randown my spine.

I inhaled. Then... who's the one that's with us right now? My legs went numb.

"What's wrong?!" Noah sounded scared by my reaction. Everyone felt I was scared.

"I-I just received a message from Nick..... he said he already reached home, the one with us is not Nick!" I shouted.

"W-who are you?" Noah shouted towards the door, almost crying. "Don't joke around anymore! Nick, talk to me!"

Silence.

"Nick, talk!"

Everyone was terrified. The atmosphere was stiff, no one knew what to do.

"Everyone turn on your flashlights and run!" Isaac shouted.

It's all over, as long as we're out of here, it'll be fine.

I'm the dark corridor, we shined our flashlight on the floor.

On Nick's head, slowly shines a white lantern...
