"Hang on! You said that you would train me in terms of swordsmanship! You're not using the katana anymore!" argued Bryan, pointing his blade at Tomoe.
"I'm still training you as a swordsman. You will still have to use your blade but I will use my fans. Until I feel that it's time to switch back to the blade. Or to something else that I feel that you need to work on," explained Tomoe.
"But why? If you want to teach me, why use other weapons? Shouldn't you be using the blade so that I can improve and learn from you?"
Tomoe blinked a few times and sighed. He shook his head and looked at Bryan with stern and fierce eyes. They were enough to make children cry.
"Simple. Your slashes and thrusts are weak. If your opponent had a shield, then you would have broken your blade for sure. Swordfighting is not just about landing a blow. It's about landing the correct blow with enough power and force to wound your opponent and take them down."
"You can make small wounds and gashes. For humans, these wounds can be annoying and ultimately lead to a slow death. But against a Mage, they heal instantly the moment your blade grazes their skin. Hell, it might not do any damage at all against the skin like the High Queen's."
"You are lacking in strength. You pour your strength into areas that would backfire on you. A prime example would be the giant clash we had just now. Had I taken a large step to the side, your back would have been open for me to attack. And for humans-"
"The spine is one of our weak spots. I get that... But why metal fans? I never knew that they could be weapons as well..." replied Bryan.
"It's called 'Tessenjutsu'. The martial art of the Japanese War fan. The fans that I wield aren't easily penetrated since it is entirely made out of metal. I made these bad boys all by myself. I've woven thin metal strands into the cloth that has the butterfly designs, to reinforce the weapons."
Tomoe then swung the two fans around, creating gusts of winds around himself. The winds were strong enough to make imprints on the grass around Tomoe, making Bryan slightly worried.
"So... Why are you using these fans to train me?" asked Bryan.
"Easy. Tessenjutsu is a defensive type of martial art. It can be offensive at times but usually, it's used to parry blows from striking weapons. Most notably, I can even use this to defend the swords of the most powerful warriors. These fans can act as a fortress if used properly."
"So, my objective for you for this week would be to destroy these fans I am wielding. And don't think that it will get worn out after a few giant attacks. I want you to find a way to deliver the ultimate blow to break any opponent's defense."
Bryan's mouth was agape while Baldwin sat down on the grass floor. The Angry Man had known that Tomoe's teaching style was unpredictable, to say the least. However, going as far as to ask a student to break his precious weapons is a bit on the far end, even for Tomoe.
"Aren't those your weapons? And you said that you made it! It's your proud craftsmanship! Are you sure that you want me to destroy it?!" asked Bryan, still in disbelief.
"Well, if you are too scared to do it..."
Tomoe vanished from his spot and appeared right in front of Bryan, who was caught off guard.
"I'll just have to cut you up with these two fans then," threatened Tomoe, with a sly smile.
Using his left hand's fan, Tomoe flicked his hand upwards, trying to slice Bryan's face. But the SLayer dodged it by moving backward. Drawing his sword, Bryan attempted to strike at Tomoe, only for it to be enough to defend himself from Tomoe's War Fans.
As Bryan was pushed back, he knew he had changed his fighting style to lessen the power gap between him and Tomoe. First things first, he needed to get out of Tomoe's fans. Bryan took in another deep breath and concentrated his strength into his arms.
Placing the other hand on the blade's back, Bryan tried to push Tomoe in the opposite direction, in hopes to push him away. But, the fox wasn't budging. One of Bryan's weak points was his arms, he never had a lot of strength in them, since he didn't need to use them as much.
If he didn't have a weapon, he would tend to favor his legs more than his hands. But his best method of killing was using projectile weapons since he doesn't need to be near to the enemy.
