As the spells died down, Tartarus dispersed, and the twins slumped onto the ground, filled with fatigue. Mavislin retracted Lord Atlantia and rushed towards the kids.
"Hey! Are you both alright?" asked the Valkyrie, looking at the tired twins.
"Yea... I never thought we could have pulled it off... I seriously thought that Lancelot would have been sane enough to hold a conversation with us so I could insult him. But the moment we saw him, I knew it wouldn't be easy to defeat him."
"So much for fighting fairly..." complained Mordred.
"Maybe that's going to teach you a lesson about biting off more than you can chew, Knight of Rebellion. Still... I'm on your side about the sanity part. I knew our enemy would be crazy, but not to this extent... A man willing to get himself wounded to swing at me is a mad beast."
"I thought of finishing the battle earlier, but Lancelot is a person who hates to die..." complained the Ankou, who had taken over Duncan's body since the boy used up too much Elemental Energy.
"So I am speaking to Mordred and the Ankou now?" asked Mavislin.
"Yes," chimed the two as they lay on their backs and looked at the azure skies.
Mavislin shook her head before her eyes shifted to Mordred, whose armor was gone.
"I know what Midori did to protect Duncan... And I'm not too happy about that happening when you were there to stop her," said the Valkyrie, staring at Mordred with glowing eyes.
"She overrode me and took control... I tried to stop it, but she was quicker than me," replied Mordred, staring right back at the Valkyrie.
Silence befell the two before the Ankou tried to lighten the situation.
"It was my fault for not taking over Duncan when that attack appeared! No need to be so angry with the past... Come on, we've destroyed the beast, so we should be happy, right?" asked the Ankou, looking at the two girls.
"Very well, I see your reasoning to be proper enough. But the next time this happens, I will take action. Now, I'm going to say that you couldn't ask that beast about any information since he's got no sanity left... Right?" asked Mavislin as she sat beside the two children.
"Nope, I've got a good bit of information from Lancelot. First, I might have used too much Elemental Energy when the spells went off, and I fell asleep. Then, when I was out, I chatted with Lancelot, who still had all his gears intact."
"The Knight said that he regretted everything he'd done in such a form and didn't mean to hurt anyone. But, from what I understand, Lancelot was forced into a body with no control of its limbs, " explained the Knight of Rebellion, looking away from Mavislin.
Mavislin could sense that Mordred must have hated to see Lancelot fall from grace so tragically. Sure, the man may have had an affair with the Queen, but he was still a noble Knight who fought bravely in other fights.
He didn't deserve to go through such horrors or get controlled by a Corrupted King. And speaking about the King...
"Anything that could help us understand the motif of the King? Or what exactly is going within the Round Table now?" asked the Valkyrie, hoping to have an edge on the foe.
"All I've known from Lancelot was that the King plans to turn Albion into Avalon, the Sinless Utopia. Of course, that can never happen, or humanity would cease to exist. But the Knight did mention something else about the King discussing with an unknown Mage."
"Lancelot said the plan on the table was to unleash something called the Husks using the Corruption Element. It's a massive project, but that's all I could get from Lancelot regarding the King's goal. I've got no clue what's that, nor have I heard of such things before, "explained Mordred.
Mavislin felt the life drained out from her system as she heard those words from the Knight's mouth... How could that be possible? It was too soon for another wave, and the Arks weren't prepared for this disaster.
They still had to deal with the Six Rogue Mages and Fabian Brookes. Having the Husks on their plate would be overkill. Mavislin regretted roping the children if she had known such a thing was happening.
"Mav? Are you alright? You don't look too fine..." asked the Ankou, wondering why the Valkyrie was so scared.
"The Husks are beings with no soul. Using the Corruption Element, a being can be turned into a Husks in a matter of Ticks. They are an empty shell of who they once were, only striving to pass on the disease to others. Once you get consumed, there's no turning you back."
