Run

It was finally morning, and I could see ahead of me clearly. A small cabin, almost hidden by the forest overgrowth laid in the distance. A morning's walk perhaps. I have to get there. Maybe I'll find some more food. And medicine...

*A few months ago*

I did what I felt was right inside of me. I swiftly aimed the revolver at my now deceased, but somehow not fully dead father, and

*BAAM*

A deafening explosion rang throughout the entire mansion. Blood splattered everywhere, but my aim was unmistakable. My dad's body collapsed to the floor, a perfectly symmetrical bullet hole, dead center on his forehead. I exhaled a breath I didn't know I was holding. I felt like crying.

"Fuck..." I whispered. My hand shook, but it wasn't a new feeling. "Mom... let's go." She still lay on the floor, shaking violently with fear and fatigue. I moved over to where she lay and pulled her up. I quickly inspected her, making sure that she was bite mark free and, to my relief, she wasn't hurt. "Come on." I quickly pulled her along with me.

"Go to your and dad's room, I'll be there soon. Find the passage dad was talking about." I pushed her towards the hallway. "Go." She ran away in a panic, not before faintly hesitating and looking at me with sorry eyes. I couldn't cry. Not right now. Not ever.

It was enough time for me to turn my attention to where the guards, still laid struggling and fighting to keep several veiny blue monsters off of them. Their bullets, missing aimlessly amongst all the commotion. The ones still presumably alive, laid on the floor, trying their hardest to push the monsters off themselves.

"COVER!" I yelled out.

*BAAM BAAM BAAM*

My aim managed to hit two of them in the head, the last one hitting its shoulder. All of them collapsed to the floor. I ran over to the last two guards.

"Follow me. Cover me from behind." I stated my orders, and after a brief pause, both of them nodded, and we made our way towards my parents bedroom, as fast as we could, pistols in hand.

As we reached the inside of the room, I found my mom huddled next to a small door, which seemed to have been concealed by the large dresser, now toppled and broken on the floor. Clothes seemed to be everywhere and mom's priceless vase laid on the floor in shatters.

"Oh Jiwon! You're okay!" My mother exhaled as she embraced me. She looked a hot mess, and if it weren't for the circumstances, I would have laughed at her.

"Don't worry mom. We'll be alright. Let's go," I said as I escaped from her tight embrace. "Help me open the door," I motioned the guards over, and after a brief struggle, the door budged open. Dust flew all around the room.

*Cough* *Cough*

"Dad could've put a little more thought into this." Before we followed the guards in, I went over to my dad's side of the bed and reached under the mattress. A black, shiny pistol next to several bullets, both from a revolver and the pistol itself, laid next to a small pocket knife. I swiftly reached for them and inserted the bullets into my revolver, as I placed my findings in my pockets. We all nodded in agreement and went inside. The first guard named Minsuk, my mom, me, and finally, Sangchul, the last guard.

We crawled and crawled, until my legs seemed to have gone numb, and I no longer felt pain. The tunnel was dark and somewhat humid, making all of us a sweating mess. I started remembering earlier events; the explosion, my dad, the guards. And those... things. What the hell were they, and more importantly, where the hell did they come from? It all happened so fast. My thoughts were murky and I struggled to remember how to breath.

"Calm down Jiwon, I'm right here." A deep voice called out in the dark. Sangchul.

"Thanks..." I responded. He was only a year older than me, and had already graduated from college. He was planning on becoming a police officer, but was working as one of our guards to make more money for university. I don't like to admit it, but he was handsome, and annoying, AND he loved to flirt with all the maids in the house. Not that it mattered to me though.

"Alright princess," he chuckled out. His very endearing pet name for me. I simply adored it. I rolled my eyes and tried to pay no attention to him. Even in situations like these, he managed to be the same joking and playful Sangchul I always knew. I smiled.

"We're here," Minsuk called out.

"Scan the area," Sangchul responded. Minsuk carefully lifted the wooden door on the other side, and quietly climbed out. A bright light flashed down on us right before the wooden door shut itself with a loud thud. My breathing steadied. We all waited patiently and listened. You could hear the birds outside, and the soft wind tussle the grass against the door.

"Minsuk," I whispered, "how's it looking?"

Nothing.

"Minsuk..." I repeated again. The door suddenly flew open, and I retrieved my revolver, ready to fire. The light blasted down on us and made it hard for my eyes to focus.

"Gun down Miss Jeong, its clear to come out," called Minsuk. I slowly lowered my weapon and helped my mom get out. As i shook off some of the dirt, I turned to look around at my surroundings. The underground tunnel had led us to a clearing in the forest in my backyard. But never had I been so far inside of it; I couldn't even see my house anymore.

*Grunt*

I turned around to see Sangchul climbing out of the tunnel, dirt smeared all over his face.

"What shit did you stick your face in," I laughed out.

"Jiwon! A lady shouldn't speak like that! Especially to a young and handsome man like Sangchul," my mom stated clearly.

"Mom~" I groaned.

"It's alright Mrs. Jeong," Sangchul remarked, "Jiwon knows I like to- oh fuck!" Sangchul looked down at the door, a pale blue hand clawing its way through...
