I turned back to face the woman I had trusted all these years_not just me, but my mother. "You are a disappointment and I should have known better not to expect anything good from a bad mother but you know what? I would always be better than all of your children so I suggest that you keep your eyes on them instead of on me. You make me sick!" I spat out.
Now that my rent was paid I could at least speak freely. The question now was who paid the rent? Was it really Ken? Or was it someone else? someone that was lurking around in the corner waiting to pounce on me.
Who was the real master of the game? I knew that there were clues, but they didn't fit in to any theory. So I had to form a theory and that was the hardest part.
I felt nothing when I opened the door. There existed only the urge to leave and to breath.
I heard scar come after me after he said something like "People like you disgust me. You are indeed so lucky. Time is really in your favor." The rest of his word were lost to the wind. But they sounded so dark, so menacing. I was sure my Landlady would have nightmares about it.
I didn't care though. I ran out of her house and into the open compound never looking back even for once.
"Mira wait up!" Scar shouted, catching up to me.
He held on to my hands just as I was about taking the flight of stairs up to my house.
I was scared because I was still in open space on the floor of the stair and my neighbors could see me and start another gossip.
"Let go of me Scar. I need to get to the station. I need information from yesterday." I said, looking sideways. I didn't want to look at him. I could look at anything but not him. "I don't want to ruin my reputation anymore." I spat.
He pulled me close to him and embraced me softly, yet his arms were strong enough to keep me in place.
He caressed my back soothingly and whispered into my ears with that bass sexy voice of his that could get a woman wet in an instant. "Mira, let it out. Don't hold it in anymore. Let it out. Do it."
I could not help my weakness anymore so I did as he asked. I cried. Holding his shoulder for support I let it all out. I sobbed like never before.
"It would be OK I promise you." He whispered, wiping tears of my chin with his finger. "Do you trust Me Mira?"
"Kind of." I choked out, amidst violent sobs. My voice came out so hoarse and sad. He rolled his eyes and I chuckled.
He looked down not meeting my eyes, "I'm sorry Mira. This is also my fault and I apologize for the part that is."
My eyes widened. I shook my head in obvious disagreement with his line of thought.
"Common don't say that! If anyone should apologize then it should be me. You are the one who has been protecting me and without you Ken would probably have killed my whole family, and I would be with him." I sniffed. "Many other bad things could have happened to me, including rape and possible death if you were not with me. I'm actually grateful for the part that is your fault. I should be saying sorry for making you a target."
"But didn't you see how your landlady looked at you. I brought more trouble into your life. I'm taking your honor and dragging your name to the mud. It is horrible being with a person with a face like mine and_"
"The world can kiss my ass with their rumors." I scoffed, cutting him off.
"Don't you hate me Mira?"
"Don't my eyes speak for me?" I retorted, staring deep into his eyes, hoping to find his soul beyond those walls he had up. He shook his head, a faint smile creeping up on his face.
"Alright I guess I should answer you appropriately then." I muttered. Before he could speak for he wanted to, I kissed him. Freely, longingly, slowly like it would be our last time.
He held me close, a hand on the back of my head and the other on my waist.
"You are everything to me Mira." He whispered to me as his lips touched my nose and my legs became weak. "And I don't mind all the danger."
"Why?" I whispered hugging him. I willed to hear his heart beat. "Why?"
"Because when we love someone we can do anything for them. It is a feeling so overwhelming and blinding that even poison becomes flavor in your mouth, as long as it is for the one you love." Scar replied. He immediately bit his lips as if he wasn't supposed to say it.
It was beautiful to watch him lose control. I smiled.
"Do you love me scar?" I asked. I was unable to hide the happiness in my voice even though my heart threatened to burst out of my chest.
I knew that I had just asked a really stupid question but my words could not be taken back and maybe, just maybe, I didn't want to take it back.
