The Unexpected...What is that thing?

I closed my eyes and held my breath, hoping that this eight-legged monster doesn't find me and if it did that it would be quick.

The ground shuddered just as the spider's foreleg stepped into the bush.

A large pincered head shot out from the earth and stabbed into the eyes of the spider, it screeched and recoiled in pain, the large head was attached to a centipede. The other spiders who were landing on the ground tried to go back up their webs, but it was too late, centipedes started to appear everywhere and started to attack the spiders.

The spiders must have realized it was either fight or die and they unhesitatingly turned on the centipedes and engaged in the slaughter. Spiders descended from the treetops and the centipedes climbed into the trees after the initial ambush, doing everything they could to kill one another

Blood, gore, and limbs fell to the ground from above.

The smell of blood started to permeate the air, drifting away on the light breeze, the further it got the more beasts and insects nearby got riled up. Roars and screeches rang through the trees.

I kept crawling away, hopefully towards home, I managed to get away from the small clearing where I had fallen to the ground. There were beasts fighting everywhere, as they bled and died larger beasts further away started to come closer. They were not interested in me, I was small and weak and they wouldn't want to devour my life force over the hundreds of juicer morsels that were being left to bleed and die during the tide of blood.

I peaked my head out from the bush I was hiding in, a large snake was wrapped tightly around a massive feline, they rolled and fought each other and destroyed many trees until they were far enough away that they wouldn't crush me. Limping forward and past the struggling giants, something wrapped around my body and pulled me up.

I squirmed and tried to get loose but I was still weak from my injuries, I was incapable of escaping, then it was softness I felt instead of pain and a strange noise almost like what mothers voice sounded like, soft and warm but I couldn't understand what it meant.

Looking up there was a beautiful face looking down at me, but it was strange and otherworldly I have never seen a face like that, strings of bright silvery hair tickled my nose and face. Her violet eyes peered down at me and I stared back, afraid of what was to come. I could feel the life energy coming from whatever this thing was, but it didn't make any sense, mother told us that only the largest beasts would have life energy like what I was experiencing.

Afraid of this strange creature I tried not to move too much, or give it a reason to eat me. Suddenly it hugged me close and moved so fast that I quickly became dizzy after we stopped moving I looked around and saw several large beasts and insects coming closer and surrounding us. Looking back to where we had just been, there was a large hole with a centipede slowly making its way back into the hole it had launched its attack from.

Looking back at this strange creature she had a long silver stick in her right hand, it was curved like the moon and each side looked razor sharp. She held me tight to her chest with her other arm, shielding me from the other beasts, they were all holding still but the prize was too great to keep them from knowing any better and they lunged at my protector.

She moved forward and slashed apart a large feline before she dodged out of the way from a bite from a two-headed wolf, she kicked off the ground and landed behind an ape in half a moment, before the ape could react its heart had been pierced through.

The slaughter continued throughout the day and into the night, as the moon rose my protector began to give off light like the moon, and she decimated countless beasts. Blood now coated my fur and her skin, she had received a few injuries as well her blood was red with silver here and there and it had started to make small puddles on the ground when the beasts saw those bloody puddles they would rush to it and fight over who would get a taste.

As the night gave into the day the beasts had started to dwindle, hundreds of corpses were piled in the forest with a few scavengers tearing into the flesh before running away with their spoils, the life energy here was so intense it was making me twitch.

The fight was coming to a close, and my protector was starting to flag, she had guarded me throughout the massacre even shifting herself into harm to protect me. A large bear rushed forward as a spider jumped from a tree above, panting heavily she rolled away from the bears' charge and raised her stick and pierced the spider through its face, she rotated the stick while it was still in the spider and ripped it out through its side.

The bear was coming back but slower this time, it raised itself on its hind legs and roared, while its mouth was still open she rushed forward and put her stick through the back of its head, the bear whined and toppled backward. She went with the bears' momentum and stood on its chest while still holding onto her stick.

Letting out a sigh she let go and held me up with both hands, she repeated making a single noise several times over, I cocked my head to the side wondering what Oni meant, she laughed at my motion and pointed at me and said it again. I guess that is what her people call my people, I licked her face which got her to laugh which sounded very pleasant.

Just as she reached out for her stick a large stinger stabbed through her back and out of her stomach, she grabbed her stick and cut off the stinger from the tail with a smooth motion. The scorpion, which had been laying nearby, screeched at her and prepared to charge at her, she threw her stick which drilled a hole through its shell and kept going. It finally stopped once it lodged itself into a large tree.

Looking down at the large hole in her stomach she coughed out a large amount of blood before falling over. She held me close whispering something to me, I licked her face again trying to cheer her up. She gave me a smile on her bloodstained lips and again said Oni, I nodded and licked away the tears on her cheeks and she hugged me again and pet my head.

Eventually, her eyes closed and she stopped moving.
