Crescent

The sound of bombing continued through the night. Children screaming as they tried to get away from the flames chasing them, and soldiers shooting at anything their eyes landed on. Houses, flats and cottages are swallowed by hot amber and yellow. Two little girls wearing blue gowns that reached their knees, ran hand in hand. Their black hair cut short into a bob and their bangs reached their eyes. Their pale faces were coated in dust and black smudges. Their knees scraped and were bleeding a bit. One of the girls had large amber eyes and the other one had green.

"Let's get to mum, Mia." The amber eyed twin voiced, her voice wobbly and sad. "We don't know where she is, Crescent." Mia replied, her green eyes coated with tears. Another bomb went off and scared the twins even more. The night sky was filled with ash and smoke. The darkness made it difficult to navigate their way around. Sooner than later, they were able to see their cottage in the far distance and they started picking up the pace. It wouldn't be long before a bomb dropped in front of them and blew them back. They flew to different parts of the field and knocked out quickly after. Little did they know that would be the last time they would see each.

"The royal family has decided to lower the tax." A tall, lean built girl spoke. She had long red hair that she kept in a ponytail. Her bangs were just above her amber eyes. Her pale face was coloured with pink cheeks and plump, pinkish red lips. She was wearing a white shirt with a black tie and a pair of black smart pants. A pair of black combat boots rested on her feet. She held a file in her hand, her expression nonchalant as she explained the situation.

"Thank you Crescent. It seems that our threat has worked in our favour and the people's." A deep voice echoed across the conference room. The voice belongs to Leon. He is a tall , well built man with tanned skin and long black hair. His eyes are a gold colour and narrow in shape. He had a throat tattoo of a bat. He wore a black turtleneck with a harness and a gun strapped on his side. A pair of black smart trousers and combat boots tied the look together.

It was just the two of them in the meeting room. The air thick with silence. The kingdom of Meerla was under their radar after tax was increased, making living conditions for the people unbearable. Their people had a way of contacting the rebel army and were able to inform them of the situation. After a few threats here and there, the Pierre family had come to their senses and decreased the tax. "I heard there's going to be a nightclub party in district 6 tonight. Are you going?" Leon asked curiously. He placed the other files into their cabinets and collected the ones in Crescent's hands and placed them in the draws.

"Well…Gianni hasn't kept his mouth shut about it, so I guess I am. We're still on duty aren't we?" Leon nodded his head. After everything was packed they stepped out of the now dark conference room into a metallic hallway with lit up flooring and ceilings." We still have to make sure no government radicalist is spreading their words during a fun occasion. We've made alot of enemies after the Meerla incident." They walked down the hallway and greeted a bunch of people in white boiler suits and black masks.

They then exited the large glass building and into a busy street. The sky was a grey colour as rain fell down, soaking both Leon and Crescent. The roads were filled with hovering vehicles of all sorts and people of all sorts. Large skyscrapers were visible from miles away, as large billboards advertised different products. A large bridge with the title 'District One' was in front of the headquarters, as well as an overground railway on top of it.

Crescent tapped a circular device on her hand and a holographic screen appeared. She started swiping until she reached the train information board. "Alright, see you tonight. It's eight minutes till the district 8 train." Leon saluted and raised his umbrella over head. Crescent decided to stick to getting soaked under the light rain, and decided to jay walk. It wasn't even long before she reached the platform and was on board her train. She sat at the very back and decided to sleep. The sounds of bombing and screaming eventually woke her up. The memories of that night kept her awake for the past ten years.

"Next Stop, District 6."The announcer stated. Crescent took this time to open up the files that she had stored in her bag. She went through it and eventually got bored. She tapped the circular device on her wrist and the holographic screen came up again. She started swiping and stopped when she reached a streaming service. "Axel, connect the audio to my ears."

"Audio connected." The robotic voice stated. The young girl nuzzled into her seat and started watching a cooking show. Not long after, she got off the train and out of the station. Whilst district one was known for its highrise buildings, trade centres, hovering vehicles and massive shopping centres. District 8 was a more green, quiet and tight-knit place. Small houses, cottages and barely any hovering cars. You could say nature had taken over.

She walked down the deserted road and across the park before entering a neighbourhood with luxurious mansions. She took a sharp turn and stood in front of a beige bungalow. She noticed her door was slightly opened. With a second thought, she had Axel summon a blue and gold gun. She opened the door further and noticed the mess that was displayed for her. Her books were off their shelf. Her couch was turned over and a massive black painting of a spade was painted on the wall behind her tv.

"Axel, call Leon." The gun vanished from her hand, as the cylinder object on the untouched coffee rang her boss. "Hello." Leon's voice greeted, confused. "My home was broken into." She angrily said. She flipped the sofa back into place and sat on it. Her hands held each other tightly, her knuckles slowly turning white.

"It was Gina's minions."
