My birthday

*Beep beep.. beep beep.. beep beep*

It's eight in the morning and I'm ready to seize the day. My eighteenth birthday is here! I have never been so happy since the past two years but nothing can stop me today from grinning like a Cheshire cat.

I'm all set I've planned everything. I went downstairs with my one bag and I see is my mom and two lawyers waiting for me to sign the documents. I got a bit annoyed but just kept thinking to myself that it would be over soon.

Afterall was done I went ahead and took a last glance at the place I once called. "past" I muttered under my breath. The place is just a place where my witch of a mom lives. Wait not mom my step mom, when dad was alive he forced me to call that witch mom. Calling her mom just seems so wrong now.

Anyways the past is the past now. I went ahead in my lucky white t-shirt with a black cat on it and a suitcase in my hand. I had always had big dark circles under my eyes so in order to brighten my appearance I threw some shades to my outfit. Unlike my circumstances I had always been optimistic but once I was on the street I realized I pretty much looked like a foreigner.

I went to the nearest ATM and checked my account balance.

WHAT THE HELL-

i rushed back to my house and banged loudly at the door and demanded where my step-mom was. She came swiftly from the corner room. I asked her why my account had no money.

"And why do you think I will transfer you money?" She asked.

"Because we agreed on it! I signed the papers-" I yelled at her and she just sighed and told me that those papers were just for transfer of ownership for all the properties and the money in the bank.

I stared at her blankly for maybe a minute.

I must have been out of it for i was out of the house when i realized the situation i was in.

I must have lost my mind. From the past two days I have been making plans for my new life. My foolproof plan. I will get an apartment on lease, will go to college for studying zoology and major in entomology (study of insects).

And now I can't do anything.

I can't go to college.

I can't have an apartment.

I can't go back to that place.

My mind lead to only one inference.

I'M HOMELESS.

After living almost all my life in luxury, I only have 50 Australian dollars. I'm screwed.

It was nighttime by the time my phone's battery died. Genius me even forgot to charge my phone. I went to a convenience store and bought flavoured milk and TimTam cookies. A sweet dinner. As I was paying for them i saw a kid around 10 years old. I noticed him particularly because he seemed mature. I don't know why I thought he looked mature, maybe because he was alone or maybe because he was so eerily quiet.

Right when I was about to leave. I heard a voice.

"EMILY EDEN YOU HAVE BEEN CHOOSEN FOR THE FORSAKEN GAMES"

The voice sounded like two or three people were saying something simultaenously but when I looked back it seemed that the voice came out of that kid and before i can question anything everything turned to black.
