The Secret Weapon

After Wei Li Na and Li TengFei had their talk, Wang Lei and Tira were invited into the tent. Wei Li Na sat on the side while they had their business. Wei Li Na secretly spied Wang Lei's profile. He was completely composed and focused on Li TengFei.

Following their conversation, Wei Li Na learned Tira was going to act as a translator for the Yugu tribe. The kidnapped children Wei Li Na traveled with to GaoChang City were from the Yugu tribe, and Tira will act as their representative. The plan was to return the kids to the Yugu, and earn the nomadic people's goodwill.

The chatter went on, Wei Li Na noticed Tira's dazzling smile as she spoke to Li TengFei. Her earrings and head ornaments bobbed and swayed as she spoke to him. This girl was very good looking. Wei Li Na fell into a daze just watching her. Li TengFei was absolutely enchanted with her appearance and manner.

Wei Li Na spied Wang Lei, he wasn't even looking at Tira! Ignoring her completely. It was only moments ago back at the courtyard he was blushing like red bulb at the sight of Tira, and now he's ignoring her completely? This General Wang was too interesting.

Wei Li Na got up. She wanted to get some air, go out and and look around. Before she left the tent, Li TengFei called out to her. He tossed her a straw hat with a veil attached.

"Wear this whenever you go out. Be back at the courtyard before dark!"

The straw hat was not very big, but deep enough to cover half her face. The veil was darkly colored and fell to her shoulders. Wei Li Na didn't understand the point of wearing it, but since Li TengFei said so, she'll wear it. It could protect her from getting sunburned.

Half blinded by the straw hat, Wei Li Na left the tent and wandered towards the city gates. She had already collected her winnings from Li TengFei, the amount of a few silvers and notes. Why not have some fun and go shopping.

A good eighty percent of her vision was blocked by the veil and straw hat, it was ridiculous. But instead of lifting the veil, she used her Divine Third Eye to navigate the road before her. Once in a while, she's lift the veil to take in the sights with her own eyes whenever there was something interesting. She quickly got used to it, and directed her steps towards the city shops.

Li TengFei had a few guards follow behind her. She found it a little bothersome, but could not do anything about it. She walked a bit faster to put distance between them, so she could freely talk to Dave, her longtime AI companion.

"Dave, I have serious suspicions about Li TengFei."

"Young Mistress, so do I. Why is he still alive? What's on your mind?"

"I think Li TengFei can read my mind. Because of Divine Third Eye, I'm very difficult to catch when I can see further than any normal human being. But Li TengFei has caught me twice already. First when I was hiding in that kidnapper's shop, second when I was trying to escape his courtyard on that first day we met."

"Yes Mistress. That is suspicious, indeed. There are records of people able to read other's thoughts and communicate telepathically."

"I don't know if he can communicate telepathically, but I do know he can read your mind, Dave. I don't think Li TengFei knows you exist. But I know he can tell what you're thinking. In the last few days, I never wanted to kill him, but you did. You kept telling me to stab him or strangle him in his sleep. Li TengFei heard your thoughts and concluded that it was my intentions. Dave will have to be more careful in the future."

"Yes Young Mistress is very wise."

Wei Li Na considered this deeply. It was remarkable to meet a mind reader. There are rare people with superhuman aptitudes. Wei Li Na's own Divine Third Eye can be considered a superhuman ability, an aptitude that was discovered early, trained and cultivated for several years. Later, her Divine Third Eye was even enhanced with space age technology.

Wei Li Na's abilities were kept secret, only a few members of her family knew about it. Any kind of special ability is a weapon when you belong to the military, so secrecy is of utmost importance.

The same might be for Li TengFei. If he does have the ability to read thoughts, that ability would be kept top secret. Wei Li Na could only imagine the advantage of being able to read others thoughts. Li TengFei could see men's hearts with more clarity than anybody else. If you did not know he had this ability, you would not have any defence against it and would be at his complete mercy! What a formidable ability in the sphere of politics and warfare. Whatever Li TengFei wanted to do, he was sure to be a success. If he had more ambition, he could even rise to the position of emperor of this dynasty.

"Young Mistress, when Li TengFei is closeby, I can create a whitenoise that can block him from hearing our thought. If he tries to eavesdrop on our mind, all he'll get is a ringing sound in his ears."

"Very good. Lets do that. But since there's no way to know the full capacity of his ability, let's still be vigilant against him. Guard your thoughts when he's around."

Wei Li Na had already reached the streets of the city. She saw a colorful shop full of snacks and walked towards it. Buying several treats for herself, and the courtyard maid, Mudan. Wei Li Na slowly moved towards the General's courtyard.

Discussing plans with Dave on how to locate the Wei Ancestor. Assuming this was the correct time and correct coordinates, she should be able to find Ancestor Wei within the Imperial Army.

The Western Regions were foreign land. Since her ancestors were Han Chinese, they most likely traveled with the Imperial Army. Ancestor could be a soldier or a civilian. That variable was unknown.

Wei Li Na will start with the Young Master Wei she met a few days ago, who also lives at the General's courtyard. She'll then find a way to get a list of names for any soldiers surnamed Wei enlisted in the army. General Wang Lei should have the census information, since he handles administrative duties in GaoChang.

With some luck, it was completely possible to locate Ancestor Wei in a few days.
