Foster Son, Don’t Be So Crazy (48)

Song Jia saw that the situation was getting tense, and her eyebrows unconsciously furrowed.

She pulled on Xiang Feng's hand, thinking that the two of them hadn't met for so long, yet were already having their swords drawn and bows bent.

"Nian Shou, I came to talk to you," she said, trying to diffuse the situation.

Nian Shou looked at her, and struggled to put his emotions under control. Forcing a smile, he gestured to the chairs behind him.

"Let's sit down first."

After Nian Shou and Su Liang sat side by side, Xiang Feng pulled Song Jia towards him, letting her sit down on his lap. His arm was wrapped around her waist, his chin on her shoulder, as he continued to glare at Nian Shou like a territorial beast claiming its property.

Song Jia felt helpless about these series of actions from the man behind her. If she struggled, he would only get angry, so she tried her best to be comfortable inside his embrace.

"Nian Shou, what's going on outside for the past week?" she asked.

Dissatisfied at hearing her call another man's name, Xiang Feng buried his face on the crook of her neck and inhaled her flowery scent. Song Jia tried not to make her smile drop as his warm breath tickled her skin.

From underneath the table where Song Jia couldn't see, Nian Shou clenched his fist. He answered without a change in his expression, "The plan is going smoothly. The crown princess has already investigated you, and the developments we've made in the south are starting to spread throughout the kingdom. According to the reports I've gathered, Princess Bai Xue is becoming restless."

Hearing what they were talking about, Xiang Feng lifted his head. Song Jia pretended that she hadn't noticed this small movement of his and continued to ask, "What about the things I've told you to investigate? Has it been done?"

Nian Shou nodded, "It's done."

The corners of Song Jia's lips rose up.

"Let her move first, and then do what I've told you to do. It won't be long now."

Song Jia talked for a while with the two of them before bidding them goodbye. It wasn't safe for them to stay any longer at the castle, as who knows when the crown princess will discover their close relationship and use the two of them as leverage against her. She couldn't take the risk.

Song Jia stood up with Xiang Feng still hovering protectively behind her. Nian Shou stepped forward, but Xiang Feng blocked his path.

"I just wanted to say goodbye to her," Nian Shou said evenly.

"Then say your goodbyes. You don't have to get close to her."

He even stepped forward to completely block Song Jia from Nian Shou's view, hiding her completely. As far as Xiang Feng was concerned, letting Nian Shou stay in the same space as her was already a great concession from him.

Song Jia, "..."

Nian Shou sighed and said, "Jia, take care."

Su Liang eyed Xiang Feng and when he didn't stop her from approaching Song Jia, she breathed a sigh of relief and went over to hug her.

"Also take good care of yourselves, okay?" Song Jia was still worried that they might be targeted. "And tell Nian Shou not to overdo it. It's good if the plan is successful, but if it's too dangerous, then I'd rather the two of you stayed safe."

Nian Shou overheard their conversation and smiled, "Jia, don't worry. I'll watch over Su Liang."

At the same time, Xiang Feng angrily said, "Jia!"

She actually dared to voice out her concern for another man?

Song Jia ignored him. "The two of you should quickly leave. It won't be good if the crown princess sees me interacting with you."

Song Jia lightly pushed Su Liang away.

Just as she did, she heard Xiang Feng shout, "Jia!"

This time his voice was filled with panic, not anger.

Realizing that something was wrong, Song Jia quickly grabbed Su Liang's wrist and covered the other girl's body with her own, shielding her. A broad warmth pressed against Song Jia's back, and she heard Xiang Feng quietly groan.

When she turned around, she saw that an arrow protruded from his chest, soaking his shirt with blood. She didn't even know how he managed to quickly go in front of her.

"Xiang Feng!" Song Jia was horrified.

Xiang Feng turned around, just as another arrow whizzed towards them. He raised his hand, and accurately grabbed it in mid-air. He clenched his fist, and the arrow broke in two.

His eyes glinted red.

"Jia, wait here."

And his figure flashed away, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

Song Jia had seen that his eyes were gradually turning red and knew what it meant. Dragging the pale-faced Su Liang, she spoke hurriedly to Nian Shou, "Get out!"

Nian Shou's face was also wan. He surveyed Jia worriedly from head to toe, "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine, Xiang Feng blocked the arrow for me. Nian Shou, take Su Liang with you and quickly leave the castle. Hurry!"

Nian Shou didn't move.

"But it's clear that those assassins' target was you. Jia, you also know who's behind this, right? You should leave with us!"

He grabbed her wrist, forcefully tugging her with him.

"Nian Shou, I..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Nian Shou flew away like a ragdoll, smashing into one of the pillars in the pavilion. Blood trickled at the corners of his mouth, and Nian Shou moaned in pain.

Xiang Feng stood over him, his expression a bloodthirsty mask. His pair of red eyes glared at Nian Shou. The arrow was still sticking out of his body, spilling blood into his already soaked shirt. He looked furious.

"Nian Shou!" Song Jia screamed.

Xiang Feng's head towards her, and he looked like he was on the verge of an explosion.

"Try saying his name again!" he hysterically shouted.

Grabbing Nian Shou by the neck, Xiang Feng lifted him up. Song Jia didn't hesitate. She slid between them, until Xiang Feng had no choice but to release Nian Shou.

He was afraid that he would accidentally hurt her.

"Jia!" He gnashed his teeth.

Song Jia saw that Su Liang was looking with terror at Xiang Feng and shouted at her, "Take Nian Shou with you and go! Hurry!"

Su Liang bit her trembling lip and with another anxious look at her, she nodded. She put Nian Shou's arm around her shoulders and left the pavilion while supporting him.

When Song Jia saw that Xiang Feng wanted to follow them, she stepped in front of him until his red eyes were focused on her.

His face gradually revealed a hint of killing intent, "You're not afraid that I'll kill you?"

Through the scent of flowers, the thick scent of blood filled the whole pavilion. For the bloodthirsty Xiang Feng, it made his hands itch to kill until his whole body was shaking with it.
