" Excuse me?!" spat Maya while choking on her drink. Lucas looked as innocent as an angel. She looked at everyone else to check their reactions. No one seemed bothered, her aunt was busy talking to Anna while Danielle was talking to someone on the phone. He purposely whispered the words only for her to hear. That Devil!!! cursed Maya internally.
She chose to ignore him since no one heard him. He just smirked looking at her shocked expression and sat at the table. Unfortunate for Maya he was seated right next to her. Throughout the dinner she was on tenterhooks, constantly fretting about her future job and seeing him everyday.
By the end of dinner Maya had already made up her mind, she was going to decline the job offer, she had no other choice. That was the only way to escape the Devil's clutches. She felt such hate and anger towards him, she could not digest the thought of having to work for him.
Lucas sensing the turmoil brewing in Maya's mind could roughly guess what her decision was. As he was leaving with her relatives, he just shook her hands professionally and walked out. As she closed the door, Maya could finally release the breath she was holding in. Suddenly the doorbell rang, Maya panicked. She opened the door guessing who was on the other side. " Why are you here?" she questioned him abruptly. " I will buy every company you apply to, so don't bother quitting," he said seriously. Maya was flabbergasted, how could he read her mind.
" Can't you just leave me be? Why are you here?" pleaded Maya exhaustedly. " I love you," declared Lucas. " Love? Hahahahahaha…. Thats a funny joke," laughed Maya. " You don't know me, you barely met me yet you can say you love me? Do I look that naive? I know what a player you are, so please dont waste my time any longer!" chided Maya. " I feel like I know you all my life, it doesn't take years to develop feelings, just moments," countered Lucas. " Please leave this dialogues for someone else more gullible than me. I admit that I was very much attracted to you and was even clouded by this so called love but I woke up the minute I saw you with another woman. That incident brought me back to reality so I am honestly not bothered by your cheesy dialogues and crap," scoffed Maya angrily.
" You know what, to prove to you that you don't matter to me anymore I will join Stark Corp. once you get bored of this chase. I hope you will leave me be," solemnly Maya declared. Lucas was stunned. He didn't realise how deep her anger and how much she resented him. He just hoped he could convince her once she joined his company. He just nodded and walked away.
Luck was on Maya's side, she never came in contact with Lucas for the next few days. She postponed her starting date as she had to fly back home. Her sister in law went into labour. The whole family congregated outside the Birthing Suite. Maya was ecstatic. She loved her niece before she was even born. The moment Vince walked out with the baby in his arms, everyone fell silent. They were stunned by the bundle of joy in his arms. The tiny doll was fast asleep in her dad's arms, blissfully ignorant to her impact in everyone else's life around her.
Maya cried the minute she laid eyes on her angel. She felt so torn. She held a secret no one else knew, not even her parents. She cried as she held her angel in her arms. She felt like her heart was about to explode with love. She asked Shane on what name he decided for his daughter, he smiled and said, " Anya." " My beautiful Anya," cooed Maya.
The whole family was in celebratory mode. A grandchild for Manick Enterprises. Mr Manick had already started making preparations for her future, creating Endowment Bonds under her name. Each uncle presented a different gift to the princess, ranging from real estate, shares, bonds and jewellery. Irene just shook her head and her sons' reaction towards their niece.
No one asked what Maya did for her niece as she was the least successful person financially in the family. No one knew that the minute she knew Samantha conceived, Maya started a foundation for the blind under her so that she could be the princess who made an impact in the world positively. She would just rename it, Anya's Light Foundation. This foundation helped millions of people suffering from blindness and eye related illnesses.
As Maya passed this information to her family, everyone was shocked. Irene even teared up thinking about the beautiful gift. As Anya came back home, Maya refused to leave her side. She kept telling herself it was only for the next month, then she would need to return to her life in Germany.
As the days passed, Lucas grew more depressed. His assistant was worried about him and enquired skeptically, " Why don't you visit her back home?" " I need to give her her space," mumbled Lucas. He felt dejected, as her words that day struck a chord in his heart. How did he know if what he felt was real love? He knew he missed her like crazy but as a person who has never been in love before how could he be so certain? Her words brought out all the ugly insecurities in him.
" You are the one girl I see in my dreams, but how do I prove my love to you?" questioned Lucas silently to himself. In the blink of an eye, one month passed by uneventfully. Maya was distraught to leave Anya and her family but she decided she needed to make a name for herself before she came back. She was stubborn that way.
As she walked out of Dusseldorf airport, Lucas was the first person she saw. " What are you doing here?" she asked. She didn't expect to see him so fast. " I missed your face, hence I came," he answered nonchalantly. She was shocked but she masked her expressions immediately. She knew she shouldn't be affected by his charm. She was much more level headed now compared to when she made a fool of herself at their previous workplace.
She just walked forward and got into her car. He just smiled a little and got into his. As she reached her apartment, his car stopped right behind hers. She was annoyed by his stalkerish behaviour. She just kept quiet and walked in, as he followed her, she abruptly turned and questioned him, " Why are you following me?" " I live here," answered Lucas emotionlessly. " You have got to be kidding me!" she exclaimed. He just lifted his condo card lifelessly. Why is my luck so rotten, Maya thought to herself. She just entered the lift silently praying he lived many floors away from her. She purposely waited for him to click his floor. To her dismay, it was the 25th floor, the exact same floor she lived on. She just grunted silently. As they walked out she reached her door and to her left was his. She just shook her head and walked in.
As she unpacked and sat on the couch, she was trying to understand her feelings, why did she turn so cold towards him? Not long ago she was spending her time in his bed now she hated his guts. She realised that his betrayal was the strongest of them all. It was the straw that broke the camel's back. He is the reason she turned cold and cynical.
