Chapter 2 Beginning

Present

I am eight years old today. I live in a small house with two sisters. Lillium is older then me by four years, Eliza is seven years older than me. Our house may be in on the smaller side, but the love of my family made it seem huge.

My father and Mother would work all day, so my sisters would watch me during the day. Eliza would teach me how to read, but Lillium always insisted that we play. She always had quarrels with Eliza. They were never mad for long though.

Since it was my birthday today, Eliza made a lemon bunt cake. I was told to stay in my room by Lill, and not to come out unless she said so. It felt like eons. Finally, Lill said I could come out. Decadent food was plated on the small hickory table. Purple ribbons were hung around the room, and three small wrapped boxes sat on the counter beside a cake. Excitement radiated through the room; Mom and Dad even came home early to celebrate. They seemed happy even though dark circles were under both of their gray eyes.

They all sang me happy Birthday, then we ate the stew and bread Eliza prepared. They all sat around me while I opened my presents. First I opened the gift from Lill; the wrapping paper was white with pink polka dots, tied a little roughly with a pink ribbon. Inside the box was a little dagger with a Emerald green hilt and a silver dragon wrapping itself down the hilt.

Next was a blue box with a white ribbon; it was definitely from Eliza. Ever detail showed. To the delicate wrapping to the perfect bow. Inside the box was a hand carved fox doll. It's eyes were a light sea foam green; the tail gently wrapped around its body. It was carved from left over mahogany from Dad's shop.

The last gift was from both of my parents. It was a lavender colored box with a teal ribbon. Inside was a silver circle locket; encased was a picture of all of us as a family. The picture was from the fall. Eliza was in a soft periwinkle colored gown, Lill was in a soft green, and I was in a lavender dress.

I said thank you, we all finished the cake and then went to bed. This was my favorite birthday with them....

.. unfortunately it was the last and it was the last time I saw my family alive.
