The sun was already setting, and the world started to get swallowed up by darkness. The temperature of the air was dropping as well, as it lost the warmth provided by the giant ball of light in the sky, making the chilly winter breeze colder and colder.
On the roof of a temple called Ryuudou Temple, a sparrow quietly perched. It stayed still there even though the chilly breeze of the winter air was blowing it from all directions, not moving, not making any sounds either, still like a statue. And anyone who saw it would think so if not for how its feathers were ruffled by the wind.
To the human eyes, the sparrow seemed to be alone, but actually not, as someone invisible and undetectable was hovering beside it, with a pair of demonic wings unfolded from his back.
After cooking a dinner for Sakura, Sena decided to make a preparation to summon Raikou and teleported here using one of the clones of the sparrow as coordinate, as he chose to do the summoning ritual in this Temple.
The Greater Grail was here, resided within an enormous cavern beneath the temple. And as the heart of the Fuyuki spiritual grounds, this place was the best place for Sena to do the summoning, as he required as much control as possible over the process to do his customized summoning ritual.
From the magecraft knowledge he got from Zouken, the guy who was one of the people who created the servant summoning system, the guy who was the inventor of the Command Spells used in the Holy Grail War, he got the knowledge of how to summon a servant using the Grail and how it worked.
Comparing them and cross checking them with the magical knowledge and theories the autopilot mode had gathered in DXD world, he made a modification to the ritual and customized it to his needs.
And because he had absolute mastery of the Water Soldier ability, which worked pretty similar to how the Grail summoned the Heroic Spirit, he had another very useful reference to his modification of the ritual.
Thanks to all of that, after checking the modified ritual again and again, he believed one hundred percent that there was not a problem with it and Raikou would definitely be summoned as the result.
But to do that, he needed to be in the close proximity of the Greater Grail. That way, he could have more control over the summoning ritual, as the modification he had was not only to successfully summon Raikou even without a catalyst, but also other things as well, such as changing the binding nature of the original ritual with the Devil's magical knowledge that he had.
The possibility of failure of course existed, but that was only possible if he made an idiotic mistake in the process. Something that definitely he would not let himself to make.
He glanced to the side, at a particular empty spot and narrowed his eyes.
Before coming, he used the sparrow as a proxy and used the Water Sense through it.
From that, he found that there was an Assassin there, so he came with invisibility and presence concealment activated on the Water Membrane to conceal himself.
Tch! Sena clicked his tongue, annoyed, as he looked at the directions where the Assassin was.
'They sure are everywhere…' Sena grumbled in his head as he remembered that earlier, when he had a walk with Sakura, he also spotted a few of them scattered around the city.
Pondering about what to do with this guy here, killing him silently and swiftly crossed Sena's mind. But he didn't know the nature of this multi-existence ability that Assassin had, and he didn't want to alarm either Tokiomi or Kirei yet about his existence. So, he chose the second best option.
An invisible and undetectable water swirl appeared on his palm, and by expanding it, he created a water bubble dome, similar to the one he encased the Matou Mansion with, on the corner of the temple.
This one was not that big in size, only about ten meters in diameter, just enough for the summoning ritual.
The Water Barrier had the same properties, to make anyone outside the barrier couldn't detect anything from it, unaware of anything happening in it, and prevent anyone from entering it.
Not even the minuscule amount of energy fluctuations would be able to be detected from it even if they stood right before the barrier.
Nodded after creating the barrier, he walked slightly to the side of the barrier, then reached out his hand.
From the tip of his finger, a glowing green thin water stream surged.
It fell to the ground, slithered like a water snake, making a pattern on the ground with the mark it left behind.
Sena was drawing a magic circle for the summoning ritual.
But instead of using blood like Waver Velvet, he created with AWE a water with a few properties he required, such as a very high magic conductivity, and used that instead to draw the magic circle.
He modified the magic circle as well by adding a few diagrams and runes, to make him have much more control over the ritual, making it have more magic circles overlapped with each other.
Soon the drawing of the magic circle was done.
Checking it a few times for any mistakes, he traced the pattern again and again, then nodded with satisfaction when he found none of them.
Standing right in front of the magic circle, he looked around a few times, and looked at where Assassin was.
Many swirls of water appeared around him suddenly, and in no time twenty Water Soldiers were created.
All of them were the perfect copy of himself!
They were not the avatar version, but the clone version, so Sena didn't need to control them by himself as he wanted to put his full attention to the ritual.
As they knew what to do, they made themselves undetectable and invisible, then teleported to the outside of the barrier, encircled it.
'Better safe than sorry.' Sena thought and readjusted his mind.
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and started the summoning as he channeled his mana into the magic circle.
Receiving the mana, the magic circle started to glow more and became brighter and brighter as time passed.
At a particular point, as he connected enough with the Greater Grail, Sena put his hand inside his pocket and took out something.
The ball of ice the size of a glass marble which contained the frozen Berserker in it.
He threw it to the side and it enlarged into its original size. Converting the ice into water after that, he converted it into a sphere of water which had a property to dilute anything into energy.
He erased every trace of Lancelot in it, making it a really pure energy like anyone could find around.
Sena didn't want Lancelot to be absorbed by the Lesser Grail, as he wanted to charge the energy back into the Greater Grail to create a brief vacancy in the slot, so it would provide him with a brand new blank slate of soul for his summoning ritual, one which he could mold as he wish.
After all, even though it was called summoning, the process was actually done by creating a copy of the original, as it was impossible for the Grail to summon the real Heroic Spirit from the Throne of Heroes.
Using the energy charged for about sixty years, the Grail provided seven blank slate of souls with the limited version of third magic, The Heaven's Feel which govern over the manipulation of souls, and copied into them the "data" of the Heroic Spirit from the Throne of Heroes.
So the Grail was actually cloning the Heroic Spirit instead of summoning the original from the Throne of Heroes.
As for Sena's summoning, the guy who reincarnated him inserted his whole soul into the Grail, made a few glitches here and there and made him summoned as a Caster when Ryuunosuke did a resemblance of a summoning ritual.
After Lancelot was diluted into pure energy absorbable by the Greater Grail, Sena channeled that energy into the magic circle and let it be absorbed back by it.
Actually, Sena didn't need to do that as The Greater Grail had an emergency energy reserve that was enough to summon another seven Servants in case of emergency.
But no, he chose to do it this way as he didn't want to trigger any "failsafe" that had a possibility to create an unwanted domino effect.
He did not only create a brief vacancy for the Berserker Class though, but also create another one brief vacancy with the Caster Class as he terminated his Caster status and recharged the slot with his own mana.
Yes. He wanted to summon two Servants at once!
Normal Holy Grail Servant summoning shouldn't have taken a lot of time, but here he was, more than two hours had passed but still in the mana charging process, and the actual summoning ritual had not even started yet.
Not to mention the amount of mana he used in the process. If he used a sacrificial ritual for the mana, at least forty-five percent of the Japanese population would have been massacred by now.
The mana needed for recharging the slot actually didn't need that much of mana, but almost eighty percent of it was wasted to slow down the ritual as he needed as many windows as possible if he wanted the summoning to go as he wanted.
Another hour passed, and finally the charging was done and the Greater Grail was in a state where two Servants slots were vacant.
Not wasting any time, Sena immediately started the actual summoning ritual.
He first obscured the Grail reading of himself and gave two false impressions to the Grail.
One to make him compatible with Raikou, as he knew who exactly she was, about her history, thanks to the fandom he read in his previous life many times, then gave the required impression to the Grail to summon Raikou.
Why did he read Raiko's fandom many times?
The first reason was fanfiction.
Some fanfictions he read had her as the heroine, so he visited the fandom to know who exactly she was.
The second reason was because she was devastatingly hot!
The moment he knew about her the first time, he was immediately smitten!
Like, just looked at her!
At her body!
Those melons!
And those melons!
And those two melons!
They were simply weapons of mass destruction!!!
As for the Caster…
The one he knew well about their history was Medea.
He knew a few Heroin that could be summoned as Caster, but he didn't know much about their history. So it would be a bit difficult to make a compatibility impression with them.
As for why he knew well about Medea's history in fate, it was very obvious, wasn't it?
She was the cast in Fate/Stay Night, UBW, and Heaven's feel. So he checked about her in the fandom as he was curious about her lore.
She quite often appeared as the heroine of the fanfiction he read as well, so he was a bit knowledgeable about her tragic history.
Not to mention she would be a good teacher to teach Sakura magecraft as well.
So he decided to summon Medea for the Caster slot, as she was the only one that he had confidence of to summon successfully among the Caster candidates.
He didn't want to accidentally summon a guy after all.
That would be a waste!
Priorities!
A few moments later, after the Grail was done with his reading, it started the summoning ritual and made contact with the Throne of Heroes.
At the same time, the Grail also created two blank slates of souls, to be molded into Spirit vessels after being fused with the data from the Throne of Heroes, then bind and anchor them to a Master after that.
The Grail got the data a moment later and the fusion process with the blank souls could be started.
"Alright. Here we go." Sena put all of his concentration into this.
He kept the class as it was, but modified the vessels.
He put the binding, then changed the nature of the Command Spells as the anchor started to reach him.
Sena tricked the Grail again in this process. Giving it the impression that he was two different persons and bound the two servants with him using the modified Command Spells.
Sena released a sigh after this step was done and continued to the next one.
Time passed by, and after he finished one step, he would continue to the new one, again and again until finally, about five hours and half later, all the modification he wanted was done.
He let loose of the control he put to slow down the ritual, and poured the mana required to complete it.
Blinding light exploded from the magic circle, so bright that everything became white.
Fortunately, the water barrier contained all of them no problem, making the ones outside the barrier oblivious of the happenings inside.
Soon, the light slowly faded, and when it completely disappeared, two figures were standing before him.
Two Heroic Spirits had been successfully summoned.
