"It seems you've developed an infection in the wound. Even though we reacted as fast as we could, we missed a part of the bullet that chipped one of the bones causing bacteria to fill the crevices." The doctor said.
"Well doc, what can be done?" I asked. "All I would need is some meds or penicillin right?"
"We'll try that, but if your condition doesn't improve, we'll have only two options." he continued. "One is a good thing and the other is possibly bad."
Before I could answer, John asked.
"Well doctor, what is the good option and hopefully, the bad option is strictly as a result of the good option."
We had the same idea. I don't want the bad option be because of a failed attempt at fixing the infection. As the doctor looked over his notes, he looked back at me, in that instant I think I could figure out what he was trying to say.
"Well, the good option is the medicines and penicillin will destroy the bacteria and there will be no need for anything else." he continued to say. "However, if it only continues to get worse, we'll have to go and perform surgery."
Yeah, that's what I figured.
"Well, if that's the case, of course he's getting the surgery." John said. " That shouldn't even be up for discussion"
I looked over at because of his sudden outburst. John was getting really emotional. Almost as if he's already expecting the worse to happen.
"John..." Before i could finish the doctor added on to his previous statement.
"Now, I know that's where everyone is thinking. However, if any time during the surgery anything goes wrong, you may lose the feeling in your legs and then eventually becoming paralyzedfrom the waist down."
Everyone got quiet as the news and situation became clear.
"What will happen if we just let everything take its course?" Steve asked. "Like if he didn't take the medicine or get the surgery?"
"Well, then the more likely problem will spread. first to his spine, and then eventually to his brain. He would more than likely be in serious pain through the whole ordeal such as migraines, nausea, dizziness, occasional blackouts, and other things, until eventually he dies from the complications." The doctor ended with.
Once again, everyone got quiet.
"Okay doctor, thank you for the information." I said.
The doctor then nods at us and excuses himself as he leaves. Everyone still in shock and quiet, I decided to break the silence.
"Hey come on guys. You heard what he said. There's a possibility that I'll recover and be good as new!"
I say that even though I should be the one in more shock than anyone.
"He's right." Mike said. "I'm sure with GOD on his side, he'll come through and fight along side all of us again."
"That's right!" I said excitedly. " I'm sure I'll pull through and everything will be ok!"
Everyone nodded and agreed to be patient.
