"Fucking hate this kind of exits" a voice whined angrily which came from an abandoned shack in the outskirts of town.
"Shitty ancestors just had to fight among themselves and start a war. Dumb cunts," continued curses could be heard as a figure emerged from the doorway.
"Thanks to them, now I gotta sneak out of the damn town this way, damn them", he grumbled while swiping off the dirt from his clothes.
He glance to a 50 meters high cemented wall that was surrounding the town he was just in. Turning around, he walks into the forest behind the shack whilst covering himself with a customized jungle coat still grumbling under his breath.
'Luckily some of this food I found in those underground bunkers are awesome' as he walked among the branches of the trees while eating a can filled with luncheon meat.
Trees bigger and taller than houses surrounded him making it eazier to maneuver through the dense forest and hide from predators. As he continued moving forward, he saw pieces of debris lay everywhere. A story of the world, suddenly came to his mind.
Long ago, a devastating war also known as 'The Nuclear War' that tore the earth apart happened.
The Big Four which were the top four countries with the biggest military power fought among each other for earth resources as it was running low, and as tensions grew, a spark happened which was when an important personal from the SouthEastern Union was killed in a summit meeting among the leaders. Investigators found out that it was an assassination attempt from the Western United Nations.
The War began, starting with the two of them while the South Continent and the Northern Faction watched and did not make a move, driven by rage and fury all Alliances with the Western United Nations were taken down before they could react.
The United Nations retreated back to their continent. Months went by and the people thought everything was over since the Western United Nations stopped attacking.
As everybody celebrated the victory in the nations of the Union, the Northern Frontier suddenly launched an assault on the northern borders of the Union while the South Continent bombarded the nations near the Southern seas with their Navy Fleet.
Even with the pincer tactic, the Union managed to stand their ground. Until another Navy Fleet from the United Nations attacked the southwestern part of the border.
Surrounded, the Union broke the No Nuclear Pact and launched their nuclear arsenal towards the surrounding countries as a last resort. Caught by surprise, the three Alliances launched their missiles in retaliation.
A realisation occurred to them when that they had also marked the surrounding countries and could not change the direction of the missiles. Defence systems were activated to shoot down the missiles as people were evacuated to underground bunkers. Alas, there was not enough time to evacuate the billions in the world.
Explosions from the nuclear attack created earthquakes of magnitudes above seven which broke the continents apart, dormant volcanoes both on land and under the sea became active causing dust to cover the lands.
Fireballs and magma scorched the earth. Dust from the nuclear bombs and volcanoes covered the land. Tsunamis hundreds of meters high crashed into the lands and even over the volcanoes taming the raging fire.
At the end of the disasters, a nuclear winter covered the entire earth freezing the active floods and volcanoes. The clouds made from the explosions and volcanoes covered the skies making the temperature drop as heat from the sun could not get through.
Billions of lives were lost, even those who made to the safe houses and underground bunkers were not known whether they had survived the attack.
A hundred years went by, gradually people came out of their safe houses and underground bunkers. Many expected that the earth had turned into a barren wasteland where life was uninhabitable.
A shocking revelation was seen as the world had changed differently than expected. Massive amounts of trees covered the lands, mountains lined up the horizon.
Earth had terraformed itself. Trees grew thousands of meters high and hundreds of meters thicker. Animals had evolved into larger, fiercer and dangerous creatures.
Monsters of unbelievable sizes roam the earth, researchers found that not only the animals had evolved, plants and insects had their own defenses against predators.
Humans evolved slower as they were exposed to the changing environment at a later time.
Researchers found out that the nuclear radiation mutated the living organisms which explained the drastic changes to the world. As years goes by, humanity found that they had evolved too.
Some of them even discovered they had became stronger and faster, others had acute senses or could manipulate elements around them. Immune systems evolved to allow the human body to survive in the new environment.
Through years of research, they found out that it was because of them feeding from the changed environments and lingering radiation from their surroundings.
Humanity realised they had no power over this new world like before, when they had arsenals of missiles and firearms.
Hot weapons could not be made easily as materials were different. Cold weapons were the only way to defend themselves against the monsters as they were easier to make and maintain.
Due to the powers the people obtained, many had their own ideals for the new world. Those who had similar powers started to form their own groups, clans and even organisations, others chose to create countries of their own. Law and order was formed, to create peace in their nation.
This events created the age of hunters and adventurers who would defend their homes or seek out new places to put on the map.
Some became famous heroes because of great deeds they had done like defending cities from monster attacks or killing notorious criminals.
"Sigh, stupid old man making me remember this sort of stuff" mumbled Ace as he shakes his head to stop his train of thoughts.
"Hmmm, probably gonna reach the next city by sunrise, time to start working soon" sounding depressed. Stars twinkle as he picked up his pace, racing silently through the forest.
