Chapter 7

Xiulan's consciousness was drifting. Sometimes she could listen to a few muffled voices and sometimes it was just black. After an unknown amount of time, she opened her eyes slowly. She squinted her eyes to adjust to the room's brightness. She slowly looked around and realised that she is in a hospital. She suddenly remembered that she was hit by a car and that made her head throb in pain. She winced and decided not to think about that for the time being.

The door of the ward she was lying in opened, revealing a middle aged man and woman in white coats. the man had a badge pinned to his coat which read Dr. Huang Lin. Noticing that she was awake, the doctor smiled gently and asked "How are you feeling young lady?" Xiulan opened her mouth to respond but her voice came out as a hoarse grunt. The nurse immediately helped her sit and poured her a glass of water. Xiulan smiled in gratitude at the nurse, took the glass and gulped down the water. She gave it back, looked at the doctor and said " I feel tired all over and my head throbs occasionally. How long was I unconscious doctor?". The doctor replied "You were out cold for a whole day. You hit your head pretty hard back there so you are lucky to have escaped with mild concussion and a bump. Other surface wounds will pretty much heal in about 2 weeks and leave no scars. We will keep you in the hospital for another 3 to 4 days just in case under observation. If everything is clear, you can get discharged." and smiled.

Xiulan let a sigh in relief and asked "What about the bills doctor?" to which the doctor replied "Ah it's been paid by the person who brought you here. He is the husband of a woman who has been admitted here..... let's see, yes, he must be in one of the VIP wards, a floor above this one. You can enquire more about it at the nurses' station outside, but for now, no moving around for another few hours. You will need to rest in that time for you to be able to move around alright, young lady?" Xiulan agreed as she felt a wave of drowsiness hit her. She slept as soon as the doctor and the nurse left her ward.

Xiulan woke up somewhere around 6 in the evening and yawned. she stretched lazily. She remembered the doctor's words and got up. She washed her face, brushed her teeth, combed her hair into a messy pony and headed toward the nurses' station.

Xiulan greeted the nurse there and enquired about the person who helped her get admitted. The nurse informed her that the person's name was Lan Yi. He was here because his wife had been admitted here for 2 weeks now as she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the 3rd stage and was scared to undergo surgery. Xiulan asked for the directions to the ward they were in , thanked her and headed off to meet her benefactor.

When Xiulan reached the indicated VIP ward, she hesitated, thinking the patient would be asleep at this time and she didn't want to disturb her. As she was debating on what to do, the ward door opened slowly revealing a middle aged man. Xiulan was startled and looked at his face. She was shocked to see that the man in front of her resembled the old Chairman of Lan Corps. very closely. She gaped her mouth and suddenly blurted out "Sir, are you related to Mr. Lan Feng in anyway?". The man in front of her widened his eyes in surprise. He recognised the girl in front of him as the one he saved the day before and sighed. Xiulan realised what she blurted out and immediately apologized "Ah, I am sorry sir! I was just surprised to see your resemblance to that person that's all. I didn't mean to come off as rude. I am sorry, you don't need to respond to that. I am here to thank you for helping me yesterday. Uh, and I am sorry for the trouble". She gave him a sheepish smile.

Lan Yi found her rather personality to be rather likable. He laughed lowly and said in an amicable tone "That's all right. I had to do that because I saw you getting hit and coincidentally I was heading to the hospital myself. I would have done it to anyone else in your position as well."

Xiulan instantly felt a fatherly feeling from the person Infront of her. Her eyes reddened as she remembered her own father in city T. She missed her parents. She forced her tears back and smiled at Lan Yi and said "The fact still remains that I was saved by you. I sincerely am thanking you sir. Please feel free to look for me if you want help of any kind. As long as I can do it, I will do it to the best of my ability. I will remember your kindness sir!" and gave him a teary smile.

Xiulan heard a voice that came from behind Lan Yi. He heard it too and turned around.
