Chapter 9

When Maja got married the pressure from her became much and Audrey joined her in this. They had actually quarrelled on Audrey's first wedding anniversary after Audrey had announced happily that she was expecting a baby. Applauds, shouts and whistles followed this revelation and Sarah's was the loudest of them all.

"Soon I'll be pregnant too. Sarah when will it be your turn?" Maja asked her during there time together. She frowned her face distastefully acting like she was Sarah's mother.

Maja could actually never pass as Sarah's mother. She was just like Sarah physically, I mean they were even the same height although Sarah was more beautiful facially.

People often said Sarah was the better version of Maja and Sarah didn't like this comparison because she didn't want Maja to despise her. A little too late for that I think although she was oblivious.

"I'm just 26 and starting my career as a banker. Marriage and kids are the last things on my mind right now." Sarah replied her with a strained smile. She took a sip of her drink and rolled it in her mouth before swallowing it.

"When will you be married when you are 30. This is New Zealand the men here behave like Africans." Maja said. The three of them laughed together.

"Let me get the pie." Audrey muttered more to herself and then she excused herself. She hated it when Maja and Sarah argued it made her very uncomfortable. They could pass of as sisters so she wondered why they were always on each others necks.

She knew why though. Maja was jealous of Sarah and although Sarah claimed obliviousness she thought Sarah knew this somehow.

At least she never paid heed to any of Majas unsolicited advice's she always stood her ground like she knew she was trying to sway her to the wrong direction and she won't be swayed.

Audrey was the physical opposite of them, brown hair, thick and in between smart and not although she was two years older than them both. She was a successful blogger.

"So when do you want to get married then. I've left you to head the spinster association alone." Maja mocked drowning her drink in one gulp.

"Look marriage is not an achievement more like a trap. How are you sure your marriage is going to Last? How are you sure that Ethan wouldn't change after few years? How are you sure you will still love him after you have stayed together for years?" Sarah asked getting pissed.

"So you want my marriage to end because you are not married?" It was a rhetorical question. Maja's voice had increased various notches.

"You know that's not what I meant. It was just an innocent question." Sarah defended immediately regretting what she said. Maja barely tried to show understanding without first picking an offense.

"Then what do you mean. I'm trying to help you here and then you wish me bad in my marriage because you are not! You have everything that I don't and I don't wish you bad and just because I am married and you are not you become so envious?"

"Is that the problem that I have everything else that you don't. For God's sake what do I have that you don't. Besides we both know I don't care if you are married or not.

Where is all this coming from is there something you will like to tell me?" Sarah asked and Maja Quietened seeing that she had been put into a tight corner.
