The office was just like she had met it yesterday although Lucas looked more organized and better today.
Audrey walked in masking her tension a little bit better than she did the previous day. She was not going to allow him make her embarrass herself today. Not again, she had to try to be better. She thought with resolve.
"Good morning. You are one second late." Lucas said watching his time. "This should not repeat itself again."
Audrey was dumbfounded. Lucas had totally changed from the sweet man he was to a total jerk.
He sounded so devilish to her.
Audrey swallowed through the huge lump that hand formed in her throat and spoke "Your secretary held me up. I was actually ten minutes early. And I am of the opinion that the time that actually counts is when I stepped into the firm."
"You should know not to think. Your opinion is useless. Lucas publishing house is not for opinion givers." Lucas said venomously. He eyed her with distaste, Then he proceeded to check the table for a file.
"You know you can tell me all this without being so rude and mean." Audrey quaked. Her face remained blank even though her voice shook. She was hurt to say the least.
"I don't think you are ready to work. This is how it works around here. I am the boss and I get to say and do whatever I like and you are free to use the door if it doesn't please you. This is not your husband's house so do not think you will be treated like a princess. Got it? You are not the boss here I am!"
His eyes on her never faltered as he spoke through clenched teeth throwing her words back at her with anger in his voice.
Audrey blinked twice but Lucas's eyes never left hers. It was as if he was scared that she would disappear if he blinks even for a second just like she had done in the past.
Lucas was boring into her soul, trying to break her like she broke him and she knew it.
Audrey realized that his anger was directed at her and she held more power. If she no longer affected him like he wanted to claim why was he so enraged. She Inhaled remembering who she was. "I am Audrey Harrington. Wife of the tycoon, not some road side graduate. I'll not be intimidated by a man I can buy." She said to herself. She knew it was all to make her feel better and it did. It made her feel Much more better.
"Alright." She said simply after she had calmed down.
Lucas stared at her, he was surprised with her response he had expected her to break down, to cry or to continue to exchange words with him considering their history, but not this. Not her being calm.
He swallowed, trying his best to maintain his blank look even though it was growing harder and harder for him to do.
"This pamphlet needs to be published today. Work with other editors on it. I need the work submitted on my desk before 5."
His face remained emotionless as he spoke and Audrey's had equally resumed a blank although slightly infuriated Stoic.
"Yes boss."
Somehow her calling him Boss made him remember when they were together and she would playfully call him 'the boss'. It felt strange now when she said it.
It made him remember too, remember things he had tried so hard to forget since she left him. It made him want her again.
"You may now leave." He dismissed.
Audrey nodded and walked out of his office, her ass shaking as she walked. He didn't know if she was deliberately doing it to turn him on, or she just subconsciously did it because her subconscious couldn't hide the fact that she wanted his eyes on her ass.
"Lord. This is not working!" Lucas murmured to himself running his hand through his head exasperated.
He could feel his dick growing hard. He swallowed.
