A Desperate Call

Nora was at the Empire Hotel, meticulously cleaning one of the luxurious suites, when her phone buzzed in her pocket. She almost ignored it, knowing she couldn't afford any distractions, but something urged her to check. As she saw her mother's name flash on the screen, a wave of unease washed over her.

Nora, it's Emily, her mother's voice trembled on the other end. "She collapsed at school today. They've rushed her to the hospital. The doctors say she needs surgery immediately… but it's expensive, Nora. They need $10,000. I don't know what to do."

Nora felt her heart drop. Emily, her sweet, innocent little sister, was always so full of life. The thought of her lying in a hospital bed, needing surgery to survive, was almost too much to bear. Mom, I'll do whatever I can. I'll get the money, Nora promised, her voice shaking with determination.

But as she ended the call, the reality of her situation hit her. Where was she going to find $10,000? Her father, who had turned his back on them, was her only hope. He had the means, but would he help?
