Old Memories

The boggart appeared as a bog blob of black floating in air at first. But slowly, it started contorting, twisting and turning, taking shape. It slowly became a door. It was a tall mahogany door with a silver handle.

Isabella started to shake.

Professor Penrose pulled out her wand, ready to interfere, should something happen to Isabella.

The door started to creak open. Inside was a dark room. The bed was a mess, things scattered all over the floor, broken shards of everything all over. Like there had been a fight.

Isabella's breathing quickened.

When she saw the locket on the floor, with the glass shattered and the picture out of place, she blacked out.

The last she heard was Professor Penrose yell "RIDDIKULUS!" And her name being called.

Memories flooded back into her.

Isabella creaked the door open more, stepping into the room. She had come to check because she had heard a crash (her parents were on a business trip, so it was only her sister and Isabella there). The window in the dark room was broken. Could someone have possibly had broken in?

She glanced around the room, but as soon as she saw the locket on the ground, she ran towards it, not caring about the glass that cut her when she ser her hands on the ground. She gingerly picked it up, stroking the picture, which had fallen out. Isabella put it broken locket to her heart, holding it tightly, fighting back the tears as she looked around the room, seeing how trashed it was.

Her sister would never do this.

Someone had definitely broken in.

A muffled scream came from outside. Isabella rushed to the window. In the dark of the night, with only the moon lighting the sky, she made out two figures. There was a struggle. One appeared to be a man, the other.... the other was her sister. Her sister was kicking and pulling trying to get away.

"ISABELLA!" She screamed, as she managed to get the man's hand off of her mouth. But the man quickly regained his composure, and grabbed her once again.

"EMILIA!" Isabella yelled through the window. Then she ran downstairs, and out the door.

She started to run towards the man and her sister but it was too late. The man had disappeared. He had grabbed an old shoe, most likely a portkey [1].

"No!" Isabella yelled even though it was much too late. There was nothing she could do.

She remembered that she had sat outside sobbing for a while before sending an owl to her parents. She'd told them everything. It had been hard to write because of the tears in her eyes. She couldn't stop them from falling though.

"Isabella!"

Her eyes fluttered open. Professor Penrose was there, standing above her.

"Are you alright? Gave me quite a scare there..."

"I think I'm fine for now. Can I try again?" Isabella asked. She wanted to get this over with.

"That's not a good idea, Isabella. There's a good chance you'll faint again and we don't want to risk that. So, please get some rest and come back tomorrow? Sound good?" Professor Penrose said.

Isabella sighed. "Ok." She replied.

She gathered her things and left, it was time for dinner, so she hadn't been out for too long. Most likely about half an hour.

She was starving. And right now, food was the best thing to get that memory out of her mind.

At the table, Mira greeted her with a worried expression. Adam did too, Mira must have filled him in.

"How are you? You look so pale." She said.

"I'm fine... just hungry." Isabella gave her look saying 'I'll explain later, when we're not in mixed company'. They ate in silence, except for the brief times when other Ravenclaws asked something or tried to bring up something. Most of the time, the chatter died down quickly.

Back at the common room, it was clear that Isabella was not feeling fine. Many people asked her if she was alright, because she looked pale and a bit sickly. Darcy offered to postpone the Quidditch practice, but Isabella denied and told her that she'd be perfectly fine by then.

'Oh god, I missed the study session with Potter! Gosh...' she thought. It was too late now. She only hoped he hadn't waited for her at the library. She felt bad, so she ended up sending him an owl. Isabella simply felt that she owed him a short explanation.

In her letter she simply apologized, and told him that she'd definitely help him with notes tomorrow.

"Isabella..." it was Mira. She had found Isabella sitting on the floor in their dorm, staring out the window. "It's fine if you don't want to, but would you like to talk about it? I know something's bothering you, and maybe you'd like to let it out, I understand if you don't want to though."

Although it would certainly hurt Isabella to talk about it, it was a good idea.

"Actually, yeah. I do want to talk about it. You might want to sit..." she patted the spot next to her on the floor.

[1] Portkeys- any inanimate object can be turned into a Portkey. Once bewitched, the object will transport anyone who grabs it to a pre-arranged destination. Isabella's sister had the trace, which is a charm that the ministry of magic uses to detect underage magic which includes apparting. This is why a portkey was used, so the ministry could not be able to find her.
