Chapter 5 : To be Selfish Once (1)

On the 18th floor of Han Enterprise which was located in the heart of Beijing, a 1,83 m tall man wearing a navy blue suit was standing in front of floor-to-ceiling window. The room was only lit by the neon lights outside the building.

There was 'knock-knock' sound before he heard the door was opened and followed by steady footsteps. Soon after the sound of the footsteps stopped, he heard a familiar masculine voice "Mr. Han, miss Tang's check-up result is out."

The room again fell into silent. Not after 2 minutes that the man turned around and faced the other. He strecthed his arm out signaling for the other to hand him the document.

He read each word in the document carefully while listening to the other's report "Miss Tang is diagnosed for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukimia. She needs to do stem cell transplantation as soon as possible, and... "

When he heard the other stopped half-way, he shot a cold glance toward the other before he could hear the continuation "and the doctor had just contacted to ask whether you will be willing to donate your bone marrow as both of you guys match."

Upon hearing that, Han Zhi Fan who had been reading the test result attentively spouted "Don't you think there are too many coincidences, Wen Li?"

Wen Li didn't answer Han Zhi Fan's answer instead he explained what the doctor had told him before "Genetic cause is highly possible to occur in miss Tang's condition."

"Wen Li"

"I really want to be selfish once."

Upon hearing those, Wen Li felt like someone hit his pressure point. He knew that his boss had been suppresing himself for years. To hear him say so,it seemed like he couldn't hide his sorrow any longer.

"Tell the doctor to arrange the surgery as soon as possible"

Wen Li bowed before he turned around and quickly left the room to do Han Zhi Fan's request. Han Zhi Fan who was left alone walked to the leather armchair near him and sat on it. He reached the photo frame and caressed it.

That whole night, Han Zhi Fan couldn't sleep at all. However, he didn't know that in the other building on the west side of the city, there was also someone who couldn't sleep.

Tang Wei had turned on the heater in her room and had buried herself inside the quilt, but she still felt cold while she would occasionally sweating.

She didn't get to sleep not until the dawn broke. However, it was only several hours that she was awoken by a phone call. She stretched her arm out to reach her phone that she placed on the side desk the previous night. She looked at the caller's ID before she answered the call. "Hello"

"Good morning miss Tang. This is from Imperial Hospital. Your test result is out."

Tang Wei directly got up to sitting position. "Okay, I got it. I will go now."

Tang Wei got out of her bed and rushed to the bathroom. She had a quick shower before she drank a cup of hot milk. When she was changing her slippers to shoes, she just remembered that she wore a pair of thick glasses when she went to the hospital. So she put on the glasses which were in her bag.

As she opened the door, Long Fei who just came out from her room called her. "Wei wei, where are you going? You don't have class on Saturday."

Long Fei was her manager so she knew clearly her schedule. Tang Wei turned around and smiled "I need to meet my professor"

As Tang Wei being the final year student, Long Fei wasn't suspicious to hear that. "Okay, drive slowly, and don't forget that tonight is Tian Yi's anniversary. You have to attend."

Tang Wei nodded before she closed the door.

It was Sunday thus the traffic was not that packed. Tang Wei arrived at Imperial Hospital around 9 o'clock. She walked to the doctor's office as they had made appointment beforehand.

She took deep breath before she pushed open the door. There, she saw a middle-aged man wearing a white coat sitting behind his desk. The middle-aged man sensed someone came into his room which he looked up and curved his lips a little. "Miss Tang, you have come. Please take a seat."

Tang Wei walked to the chair in front of her and took a seat. She smiled a little waiting for the doctor to tell her the result.

"I am sorry to say this."

As soon as Tang Wei heard the doctor, she knew that it had come to the worst.

"You are diagnosed for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.", the doctor paused for a moment, waiting for Tang Wei's reaction.

She had prepared herself to receice the worst news, yet when she finally heard it herself, her body still trembled. Her mind turned blank, she even forgot to breathe.

The room was silent for three minutes before the doctor called her again to pull her back to the reality. "Miss Tang?"

Tang Wei who finally could gain back her composure smiled at the doctor "Then what kind of treatment that I need to follow?"

The doctor had been facing patients thousands since he first started as a doctor, but she was the first to be as calm as ocean. "For your condition, it will be better if you can do stem cell transplantation."

Tang Wei had read a lot of articles that night when she came across that what she experienced matched the symptoms of leukimia. For the whole night, she looked at a lot of articles about the treatments so she also knew that stem cell transplantation had the highest chance to cure it. "Hmm, I heard about it."

"Fortunately we have found a match donor, we can do the surgery as soon as possible if your body is fine."

She mumbled "It is too troublesome"

The doctor who could hear her was beyond surprise. He had been a doctor for a very long time, yet he had never met someone who was not happy hearing that someone would be able to donate for her. After all, not everyone was as lucky as her. However, she said that it was too troublesome which made this old man didn't have good impression for her.

Tang Wei suddenly asked "Without treatments, how long will I live?"

Again, the doctor was dumbfounded. This young lady really has a difficult character. He secretly thought. "Estimated 3 - 5 years."

Upon hearing the answer, Tang Wei nodded. She mumbled to herself, but the doctor still could hear her "It is long enough to settle things."

The doctor was speechless. He was about to advise her to not give up, but Tang Wei acted faster than him. She stood up and thanked the doctor. "Thankyou doctor." After she dropped what she would like to say, she turned and walked out.

Not long after she left, there were two men came out from the other room. The doctor stood up "Mr.Han"

Han Zhi Fan only nodded, signaling that he had heard everything. The doctor couldn't help but sighed "This is the first time I meet someone who is more willing to die."

Han Zhi Fan didn't say anything and just left the room. Wen Li then reminded "Doctor Wu, please excuse us."

Doctor Wu nodded and saw Wen Li leave.
