Love and Sacrifice

"Ling An? She's already dead. Dead doesn't come back to life." She thought. She looked at Lord Weijun and said, "My Lord, I think you're being mistakened. I'm not Ling An. I don't know what happened to your past but she's not coming back." Lingling already wanted to get out of the room but she doesn't want to get killed.

Lord Weijun stood up and his assistant carefully led him to Lingling. He tried to touch Lingling's hair, shoulder, arm, and hand. His hands quivered. Lingling saw tears in his eyes. She looked at his assistant but he lowered his head and was unable to do anything.

Lingling stood still like a rock and was unable to move. Lord Weijun let her hand go and smiled apologetically, "I'm sorry." Lingling almost had a mini heart attack, it was the first time he smiled. His assistant was surprised and by the look of his face, he must've been too shocked to say anything. His assistant came to Lingling and handed her a scroll. She looked at it and his assistant explained it was the Lord's health record which included every medication he's been taking.

Lingling was surprised but she was even more surprised why the assistant gave the scroll to her. Lord Weijun signalled his assistant once more and she was given a special palace seal. The only seal given by the Golden Dragon. It represented she was his.

"Miss. Ling. Our Lord gave his seal to you. He could not see but once you have the seal, it means you are his. If you ever accompany him to another place, show his seal and other people will let you in. If you lose it...." His assistant whispered to her, "Goodluck." Lingling had shivers down her spine and whispered back, "Is it that bad?" His assistant nodded. She gulped. First, she lost the hairpiece but what will happen if she lose the seal. Her life was already in doom when she entered.

She thought, dear gods and buddha, please help me... I still want to live my life and I am still not married... please don't kill me just yet.

She held onto the seal like it was her life. His assistant silently chuckled and said, "Today will be my last day as his assistant, I'm transferring to another place, take care of our Lord." Lingling looked at his assistant with a shocked face as if her soul left her body.

"What? You're not staying? Why?" She mouthed her words. His assistant bowed and left the room. Lingling looked him and gave him a death glare.

"Miss. Ling, are you not happy? Why aren't saying anything?" The Lord asked.

"Oh no, I was just thinking about something. I'm grateful. Thank you and I'll try my best to help you." Lord Weijun nodded and went closer to Lingling. He reached his hand out and tried to reach Lingling but she reached out her hand instead. Even though she was stuck with him, she won't let it go to waste. Who wouldn't want to be on the Lord's side? She wanted to go home but she changed her mind and decided to stick with him for now.

"Lord Weijun, can I asked you something?" Lord Weijun nodded as he sat on his bed.

"How did you become blind?" Lord Weijun was in deep thought.

"It's alright if you don't want me to know. It's only first day. Take your time. I'll stay until you fall asleep." Lingling stayed with him until he fell asleep. Whatever happened to him must not been pretty.

Next day, Lingling accompanied Lord Weijun to the palace garden. Several other maids were watering the flowers. The flowers in the palace looked so pretty compared to the ones in the mortal world, Lingling thought. She wanted to play in the flower field but remained reserved. Lord Weijun stopped for a second.

"Miss. Ling, this side should be the flower field. Do you want to go and take a look at it?" She looked at him with surprise.

"How did you know I wanted to look at them?"

"How? Because Ling An used to love them." He replied. Lingling nodded and thought- Ling An...Ling An... what kind of past did you have with the Lord?

"I'll take a look at them later. Someone is walking our way." Lingling greeted the woman.

The woman walked past Lingling and tugged onto Lord Weijun. Lingling quietly went back to the Lord's side without saying anything. This woman's name is Ah Jing. Lingling thought no one was allowed to step close to Lord Weijun. Lingling looked away and paid attention to the flowers instead but before she could go, Lord Weijun spoke, "She's my sister. Ah Jing. Not my lover." Lingling looked back at him and gave him a weird look.

How in the world does he know what I'm thinking?

"Ling An? Brother, Ling An is back!" Lord Weijun stopped her.

"She's not!" Lord Weijun shouted at her.

"But, she's right in front of you. Why would you say that?! Didn't you love her?" Ah Jing tugged onto Lord Weijun's sleeve. Lord Weijun clenched his fist, "Ah Jing, stop. She's not Ling An. The Ling An I used to know is gone. She died."

Ah Jing went quiet and went to Lingling, "I know you remembered him somewhere at the back of your mind. I know you haven't forgot about him because I sense Ling An's spirit within you but it's getting weaker. When spirits get weaker even my older brother won't be able to sense it."

Ah Jing brought Lingling to a corner, "When my brother's lover died, she made a wish to make her spirit reincarnate into a mortal. The heavenly palace was too hard for her. I know it's hard for you to believe but you need to trust me, you are Ling An. Your spirit and her spirit are the same. That was why something must've called you here."

Lingling was confused, everything was jammed into her head.

"So, right now... does the Lord still be able to sense Ling An?" Ah Jing looked at her disappointedly, "Almost barely. His spiritual power is getting weaker too even if he's the great Golden Dragon Leader. He sacrificed half of his cultivation for Ling An's reincarnation. If he loses it all, he will be in danger. That was why he purposely said you are not Ling An. He will probably not be able to remember his love soon. I'm sorry if I talked too much. It must've been overwhelming." Lingling stood there speechless and nothing came out of her mouth.

After a while, she asked, "How do you save him?" Ah Jing looked at her, "Your spiritual power will heal him but it's not awakened yet. You still have time. Even if it's weak, you still have enough time to cultivate. I'll take you to my Master. He will help you remember but my older brother's spiritual power is weaker than yours. He sacrificed his vision along with his years of cultivation. He loved Ling An. She was a great older sister to me. A great doctor too." Ah Jing smiled, "Once you remember my brother, you will know how much he loved you."

For the next few days, Lingling was in a daze especially after what Ah Jing said. Lingling looked at Lord Weijun while he dealt with palace work with other people. She still couldn't believe how much he sacrificed for Ling An which could put his life in danger. She needed some time to think it over. After work was finished, Lingling noticed something was not right.

"Lord Weijun, are you feeling alright?" There was no answer. He leaned on Lingling's chest and passed out.
