Resistance is futile (II)

If this had been any other normal day, Matt would have been sent flying with a aching jaw, but due to one of the chemicals he had been given when Sam conducted his physical, he had buffed up and trimmed down considerably. His bone density had increased over 10% and muscle mass nearly 30. So when Ian slammed his fist into his jaw, Matt barely even felt it. But Ian certainly did, the impact registered as similar to slamming your fist into a brick wall and expecting the brick wall to give way.

A horrendous crunching sound came from Ian's hand and instantly he was on the ground clutching a very broken hand. A look of incredulity warred with one of increasing pain and shock across Ian's face as he said, "What the hell, did those doctor's replace your bones with, adamantium?"

Matt laughed at his friend's pain, "You know on the ship I can have that fixed in a few minutes."

Ian snarled back, "Go pull the other one prick, now are you going to take me to the hospital or what."

Matt rolled his eyes, what the hell was it going to take to convince him. Matt pointed his arm at Ian and caused a ball of energy strong enough just to stun to be come flying out of the emitter. The energy hit Ian and knocked him out, but only momentarily as Matt hoisted him up onto his shoulders in a fireman's carry and walked out the back door with an unconscious Ian over his shoulder.

Anna looked out through the window as Matt carried an unconscious Ian out effortlessly over his shoulder and out into the backyard. She paused for a moment as she gathered her clothes together and shimmied her way into them as her mind fully developed the pictures of Matt before and after his encounter with the ship. It seemed to her like all the shit from growing up had been sloughed off him. Like he had been through the crucible and every weak part had been improved or discarded.

Her cheeks heated as her mind invariably turned to last night. All that raw power, both tamed and unleashed as they had made love and she had kept up with him. She eyed her hands as she slipped her blouse over her head. Did she now too contain that raw explosive power? Did it shine forth from her like a beacon for all to see? That thought pleased her immensely as she left Matt's bedroom and walked out the front door heading for the path to her own house. She needed to pick up some supplies and possibly another recruit for the ship.

Matt had almost reached the hole in the marker stone when Ian stirred and began kicking and screaming, accusing Matt of all manner of evils. Matt with an amused grin, eventually set Ian down after making it plain that he now had the physical strength to restrain Ian any time he wanted to. Ian after many spluttered curses eventually made it to his feet and as he rose into a crouched, cautious combat position ready to attack or defend himself he managed to break off a branch and held it before him in a defensive posture.

Matt turned to Ian and immediately held up his hands in a conciliatory gesture and said, "Jesus man, peace. I'm not going to harm you, and you already broke one hand on my face. So give it a rest already, unless it'll make you feel better by breaking the other one on some other part of my body."

A very pissed off Ian said, "You drugged me with a hallucinogen you fucker, now you want me to trust you? I don't think so."

Matt was starting to loose his patience with Ian, "A hallucinogen? I think you've lost it man. Why do you think that."

"Because I fell unconscious and I don't care how you spin it, energy weapons DO NOT EXIST. So you drugged me with the tea. But for the life of me I can't see how or when you did it or for what purpose. But if you didn't want to talk about Anna you didn't have to do this. Now am I your prisoner or am I free to go." Ian said thrusting the stick out aggressively.

Matt looked at Ian incredulously, "Prisoner? Hell no, your free to go. But considering that all you have to do to disprove what I'm saying is walk to the end of this cave, I don't see why your being so paranoid."

Ian looked at him and said, "We've known each other a long time, I never though you'd turn out to be like this. Don't follow me or I'll use the stick to defend myself. Don't call or let me see you and I won't turn you into the police. I owe you that much for all those years of friendship." Ian backed up hesitantly and before he could turn to leave Matt shook his head and raised his arm again and fired another blast. This one aimed at a rock nowhere near the both of them, which exploded violently sending shrapnel flying into the surrounding bushes.

Matt then proceeded in a fit of anger to demolish trees, rocks and shrapnel in a awesome display of firepower until a weak kneed Ian hit the dirt trying to find cover in the undergrowth. Eventually Matt stopped when he had proven his point and Ian was tentatively poking his head up out of the scrub.

"Now Ian, when you finally manage to pull your head out of your arse, go take a look at the trees. Hell go get your forensic kit and test the impact sites for powder residue, and when you finally realise that a particle weapon does exist and I just blew shit up with it I'll be waiting at the end of this cave which begins at the marker stone my dad made. Follow the path that the lights illuminate and when you reach the ship I'll be waiting for you on the other side. But I've had enough of your scepticism. Go into the cave or don't. Frankly I no longer care."

At this Matt turned and entered the cave leaving a wide eyed open mouthed Ian grasping at straws as his logically trained scientists mind tried to refute what he had just seen. Twenty minutes later after running complete smack into the stone wall he had been fervently trying to deny existed, he got up off the ground and having dusted himself off entered the cave after Matt.
