One afternoon, my phone rang. It was from a friend I hadn't contacted for a long time. She told me she's on her way to pick me up in 15 minutes.
Wait!
OH my goodness, I'm still in bed. I quickly hung up, brushed, and dressed myself. Just as I was about to leave the house, she called. She was already waiting for me at the front of my house.
I sat in her car and asked, "where are we going?"
"hiking!" she replied.
My stomach was still empty as I had just woken up. I started to worry if I could do it. Luckily, we stopped by the Star Coffee Shop for a washroom break. After agonizing what to eat for what felt like a long time, I ended up buying their new limited time Dye drink to go.
The drink was literally a blend of a ton of coloring in a I don't know what liquid, topped with cream. It was good, but cold. Not the best thing to have for "breakfast." And by the time I finished the drink, we arrived.
The place was unexpectedly crowded. Apparently, they were holding a race from the valley trail below to the top where we were. And going up to the trail was extremely inconvenient.
Every 2 to 10 steps, we were forced to clear the way for the finishing contestants. The volunteers there insisted all the other hikers to cheer for the contestants as they passed us with claps and cheers. Of course, some cheering may be good, but I find it really annoying as you can see some runners are already done and is just walking back. All the passing cheers will just ruin their pace and upset their mentality as they agonize whether to force a run from their cheers or to just keep walking. At least both me and my friend thinks so.
So after 2 flight of stairs, which is part of the hike, I finally feel like we're on the trail. At this moment, the heat and the cream started acting up. I sat down on a rock to the side.
A passing hiker freaked and looked away from me. My friend laughed at me. I hurled.
A splat of bright yellow liquid spilled out from my mouth. It looked like I was coughing up yellow blood like those aliens and superheroes with blue blood. That, or I'm now some serious cancer patient. That's what me and my friend thought.
It was the dye drink.
The final cream top didn't sit well and spewed back out. I sat for another 2 to 3 minutes before starting the hike again.
It took us 36 minutes to get to the top. A rock with a highest point. The scenery was breath taking. But there was already a lot of people resting there and enjoying the breeze and sunshine. Photos, snacks, and more. One of the people sitting near the edge had a dog. A cute little dog. But she accidentally dropped the glass bottle water off the cliff and the dog tried to chase it. Luckily it was on a leash, or the dog would have fallen off the edge with that bottle. I hope no one gets hurt from the water bottle.
Going back down was much faster, but the stress on the knees were extreme. And although there weren't as many runners on the trail compared to when we went up, it was still annoying. The runner was still a distance behind and the route ahead was wide enough for 3 people, but the volunteer kept repeating to me that a runner was coming and forced me to stop in my tracks until the runner passes. By then, I had lost sight of my friend. That was really unnecessary of those volunteers.
Driving back to the city, we headed for another drink at the Star Coffee Shop Reverse after the hike and grabbed a slice of pizza at the Garden across the street. My clothes were soaked with sweat, and even after 2 hours, they were still wet.
After the coffee break, we had ramen for dinner and she drove me home. Just in time for me to have a second sushi dinner at home.
By the end of the day, I was exhausted.
Tomorrow, I go to work.
