Chapter 37: A step forward (3)

"Hold up little imp… I didn't choose you… I had no choice, I would have been dispelled if I tried to enter your friend's body… His immunity to psychic abilities is a real pain… I had no choice… It was permanent death or sharing your body with you… Guess what choice I made… Don't think you are a sacred hero of some sort, chose to be the greatest by the heavens" The dusk demon snorted disdainfully. Muttering some inaudible words under its breath.

"First off… Fuck you… second, we are not sharing this body… This is mine and I'm not interested in sharing it with some hideous monster… and finally, here is what I think about this life… this is not a story of a poor dude with great talent, seizing the world through hard work, perseverance, and damn luck… Hell no! We don't do that here… But I will tell you something true... I am the main protagonist of this crappy story we call life... Believe it if you choose to or not…" Zero sneered disdainfully.

Hearing this, the dusk demon was taken aback. In all its life, it has never seen someone so egotistical! Even if Zero possesses high-grade potential coupled with an amazing all-round special ability which grants him great defensive and offensive capabilities, it was too early for him to make such claims. In the magic beasts opinion, the one who will end up surpassing the others amongst their little group of four members is definitely Dan. His abilities were too mystical, yet very effective! If the magic beast were to pick a perfect host amongst the four, It will definitely pick Dan over the others.

Unfortunately, I am stuck with this delusional child

"Now you are in my body... what do you plan to do?" Zero broke the silence with his words. He remained within his layers of protection, not daring to let down his guard for even a single moment.

"Cant you guess? My race was once the rulers of this great continent, controlling all the magic beasts with just our thoughts… Our empire was prosperous and our kingdom never lacked… Not until your kind was discovered…at first you all looked weak and feeble so we chose to ignore your existence, considering you all as lesser beings..." The dusk demon spoke with its head lowered. The voice of the magic beast carried its grief and pain with it.

"We… Humans… Lesser beings? And how did it work out for you?" Zero snorted disdainfully when he heard that part. Cutting off the magic beasts sad speech mid-way.

"That proved to be our greatest mistake since your race quickly multiplied and attained much greater strength, faster than we predicted… My race is known as the Dijins… a race of magical beasts with weak bodies and great psychic abilities which allowed us to control anything we set our eyes on… That how we were able to subdue the other magical beasts… we focused on controlling the strongest beasts and with their strength, we subdued the rest." The dusk demon said. Ignoring Zero's comments.

"Hold up… as far as I'm concerned humans have never been strong enough to compete with the magical beasts of this continent… we have only produced a handful of S rated guardians and only two disaster realm guardians… If your words are true, does that mean back then we had humans capable of contending with disaster realm magic beasts at that time?" Zero was utterly shocked by his discovery.

"No… there were no humans strong enough to defeat the empire level magic beasts at that time… That's why we let our guard down and never saw them as threats… Unfortunately, they discovered the beast bane flower before we did… Using this, they forcefully repelled all the high-level magic beasts under our control, leaving only the low-level ones… at that point, we were determined to wipe out the human race and tried to control them with our psychic powers, but then we realized the beast bane was greatly suppressing our strength and the strength of all the low-level magic beasts left around… My clansmen were murdered in cold blood… This country you call the liberation union was built atop the corpses of hundreds and thousands of Dijins…" The dusk demon gritted its teeth in anguish.

"That makes more sense…" Zero muttered to himself.

"So what are you? The last Dusk demon… don't tell me your race has gone extinct" Zero didn't feel any sympathy for this beast. In his opinion, humans needed to survive, they only removed future threats that may end up crippling their growth in the future.

"Yes… I was the last Dusk demon, or whatever you all call us these days… and you, you are my shield… you are the one who will help me regain my position in this world… You will help me stand atop this continent once again and rule as my ancestors did in the past" the Dusk demon declared boldly.

"Wait what? Hell no… and even if I wish to lend you a hand… what do I get in return for my services?" Zero asked with a straight face.

"I have lived for centuries boy… my knowledge is profound and we all know knowledge is power… That's how I made you stronger… strong enough to fight on equal footing with your friends… If you serve me well, I will make you the strongest man in this world!" The dusk demons voice echoed in Zero's head.

"Nope… I'll pass… Thanks for the offer though" Zero answered decisively.
